There was this one episode that Alan character and Kirk character were talking serious I think it was a drug episode and Alan put his hand on this son thigh massaging it. Kirk almost broke character but he seemed caught off guard by it or uncomfortable.

If there was one thing that Jeremy Miller & Kirk Cameron had in common was that they were very jealous of Leonardo DiCaprio whom they felt stole his thunder. Look what happened, he won an Oscar.

Brings back such good memories! I loved growing pains and still enjoy the re-runs when I catch them on tv today. This show talked about real things kids go thru and families deal with. There just isn't tv shows like this today. So glad i grew up in the time I did.

Your scale of success is relative/subjective. I think most, if not all the members went on to have some degree of success in different areas of entertainment and life in general. For example, Joanna Kerns is a successful director and Kirk Cameron has had success as well.

Growing Pains is without a doubt the greatest family sitcom and greatest show ever! It's funny and serious the acting is great it has fun storylines it teaches important life lessons it addresses serious topics all while being funny and it has a fourth wall episode called Meet the Seavers that's very creative and so brilliant my favorite part in the episode is when the set guy carries Ben over his shoulder it's seriously the perfect show!

Also, the Sever family had a little girl (Chrissy Sever) in the final seasons of the show played by Ashley Johnson, who never seems to be mentioned.

I heard that Kirk went fundamentalist Christian and wouldn't do scenes where he was "sinning" by being more or less a horny teenager. It tanked the show and Leo was cast to fill the void.

Yes Kirk is a christian but he has no cents of humor cuz he put Alan in his place when he said being with Joanna is like riding a bike. Come on Kirk even God has a cents of humor cuz he created u. Besides Alan was not going to push it beyond that one remark cuz he is a professional & he knows what to say & do cuz he been in this type of business longer then Kirk has. SMFH @ Kirk

+Mr. Allen C. Sokolik Jr. (Awesome One) Hmm, I had to go back and see what he said... what's the big deal about "don't start Alan"...? I could see Alan wasn't amused by the comment though or it could have been the editing?

I love a family that acts like a family because it shows that they really do act like a real family--aka when people ask "do you really act like family off set? They really DO!! Love the kids gagging as they deal with parents being "cute"!

Beautiful straight woman, attractive straight guy. I'm sure it happens on every set unless the other person is a complete douche. Cast mates have been ogling, dating and banging each other since the beginning of TV.

Alan and Joanna were both going through divorces when they auditioned for the show, when they met there was an attraction. They really liked each other, had fun together, enjoyed working with each other, trusted each other and were very supportive of each other. Joanna has said that Alan was such a nice guy that whenever she would get upset over something silly on set, Alan would be there to comfort her and make her laugh. They considered dating but decided against it because it would have affected the show and characters if it didn't work out. They had a very special and amazing friendship up until Alan's death. I have much respect and admiration for both of them for so many reasons. They were also like a second set of parents to the kids, they were very much like a family and that's a rarity nowadays. I love that they stayed close with each other even after the show ended. 😄
