I love The Facts Of Life! I still watch that old show to this day. I forgot that Molly Ringwald was in the first season. All of the actresses on that show totally fitted their parts. My favorite character was Jo played by Nancy McKeon. I loved how she was not only a tomboy but that she had a tender heart and she was also funny and loveable at the same time. Like in season 2 when she arrives at the school as a new student she meets Blair and she says to her "Charmed Gloria Vanderbilt" that part cracks me up every time I watch it. Jo was one of those characters that I could honestly relate to in some ways.

Even the first season girls could show up cause reunion shows are celebrations of the nostalgia and memories.
You will never see Molly Ringwald there. She was extremely bitter after being dropped from the show, and wasted no time rubbing it in when she became a big screen star. She was the only "lost girl" from Season 1 who did not attend the reunion episode in Season 8.
@@nassauguy48 I wouldn't really mind, Molly wasn't a big enough Facts character for me to care about. If I were to do a remake I'd be satisfied with just getting the classic quartet of Natalie, Blair, Jo, and Tootie. The last thing I saw Molly in was the Jem live action movie; which, needless to say, was a long way from being a Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles.

The character of Jo was somewhat a combination of Cindy and Sue Ann from Season 1. Cindy was a tomboy from a broken family, while Sue Ann was not from Manhattan and was an academic star. Both girls also stood up to Blair to a certain extent. Jo was also a tomboy, but did not actually play sports as did Cindy. Like Cindy, her parents were also divorced. Sue Ann was from Kansas, Jo from the Bronx. (Very different places, but neither was the Upper East Side of Manhattan). Like Sue Ann, Jo was academically gifted. And, of course, Jo was a tougher version of both girls.
@@Diostillrocks Well, Blair was actually just a tease. However, in the pilot episode, she was really racy. She smoked cigarettes, everybody disliked her, and she even insulted Mrs. Garrett. They definitely toned her character down when the show actually began.
@@nassauguy48 Season 1 Blair smoking pot, taunting girls for acting masculine, and trying to date a teacher seems like a completely different girl than the one in the 2nd season onward where her morality was more tame and her "mean" moments were more played for laughs and her dating habits were more of a tease. Comparing how the series handled Blair's views of Cindy's tomboyness with Jo's butchness where it's not a big deal and it only disgusts Blair in a comedic way.

They should have had a more diverse cast (not that the cast is not good) ! Couple black girls, maybe a couple Asian girls, and a couple white girls! That would've been nice!
This series began in 1979. By then, race and color was not so much of a concern like in the 60's for example. As far as diversity, the show had it. There were hardly any shows back then that had pretty much an all female cast which was highly unusual for it's time. I do understand what your saying, but frankly I watch a tv show for the story and the characters involved. I don't notice or care who is what as far as race, color, sexual orientation, gender, whatever a cast is. This was not to sound harsh. Just some thoughts.
They tried to introduce an Asian girl named Miko. She appeared in 2 shows and disappeared without mention again. The actress that played her had a nice career after Facts of Life.
@@DiostillrocksI liked Miko(Lauren Tom). I think they should have kept her. It would have added another level of both talent and diversity to the show. I didn't like season 1 I found it too cheesy and overall unfocused. There were too many characters that were very underdeveloped they gave a character one trait and that was it. The rest of the girls were bland and blended in TBH. Also I couldn't stand the laugh track, it's so phony and overused, sitcoms need to stop that. I've been a fan since I was 7 and own the seasons on DVD. I love this show!!!!!!!😍😍😍😍
The first season had potential, though the characters of Nancy and Molly were rather weak. Sue Ann and Cindy were the stronger characters among the four "lost girls", but they were too much alike, which explains why the character of Jo was molded in the second season as a combination of both. Julie Ann Haddock (Cindy) was the last of the girls to be fired, and she was definitely the best actress among the four. I read that the producers agonized about keeping or getting rid of her, but in the end, they went with a new character (Jo) who would be the same age as Blair and who was better able to stand up to her. They also wanted some innovation by introducing a character who was financially poor.
Some of the first season girls who got let go sporadically had guest spots on several episodes of the show throughout seasons 2,3 and a little bit of 4 so they wasn't fully completely forgotten about and discarded and im sure it was more of a contractual thing.
