When Shout was released - it was profound. Nothing else like it back then. It was played mainly on alternative & college radio stations, "discovered" late by the mainstream. Most of my peers back then were listening to heavy metal, glam rock, Top 40 and disco (yikes). For me - it was TFF, Depeche Mode, Simple Minds, Joy Division, Echo & The Bunnymen, Psychedelic Furs, U2, The Smiths, OMD, The Cure, The Stranglers - just a few of the bands that kept us going - musically and emotionally. Still does.

Roland Orzabal is a very underrated guitar player. Here's a deep cut for you. It's 'The Working Hour' from the 'Big Chair' album and they say it's their most-requested fan favorite when they tour. This particular live performance is from 2014. It's the song that first got me interested in exploring their music beyond the hits. They still tour today, and have a new album complete (no release date announced yet): th-cam.com/video/s5_HZT7qhP0/w-d-xo.html

The story behind this song is great. In the 80’s the world, especially England where Tears for Fears was starting out, was afraid Ronald Reagan was going to start a nuclear war. The singer Roland O. was humming the main verse in his head in the shower. He took this to Kurt Smith, but they did not want to finish it out,but were talked into it….luckily.

As for a Tears for Fears "deep cut" perhaps you can do "Brian Wilson Said" off the album Elemental. Curt Smith was not on this album; it was just Roland and his back up band then (with production and songwriting collaboration by Alan Griffith). The album is under-rated, but it has some sublime songs. "Brian Wilson Said" is glorious, glorious!!!! Roland's best guitar work. Beautiful song.
