Sadly, real life has taught me that "I want everyone to be as miserable as I am" is actually a fairly common motivation for people. In that sense, the Asthma Monster is actually one of Marvel's more realistic villains, at least as motivation goes.
"I once foiled the Red Skull when I was a stand-in for the Easter Bunny." You know, that's just dumb enough that I believe that at some point in time, that has happened.
I'm sure in the Silver Age or something. Please tell me it's real as well.
"COULDN'T RESIST! I ZAPPED EVERY CLASSROOM!"
For some reason the voice acting combined with this line made me burst out laughing.
That's just taking pettiness to a hilarious level.

TIME FOR BACKSTORY...
Not sure about the timing, but in the mid-80's, Captain America did set up a hotline so people could contact him about emergencies. A government screw up sent him 40 years of back pay since he'd never technically had ever been discharged from the army. I think the fact that they hired others to be Captain America played into it as well as they never declared him dead, either.
The Commission tried to use it as leverage to get him to work for them during the whole John Walker / The Captain period. Since he knows rich people, he borrowed the money and paid back the government.
I think at the same time he had his hotline, he also had a battle van and motorcycle, so this is pretty cannon, except I don't remember the van being yellow.

This comic holds a special place in my heart. It's the first comic I ever owned. It was a free comic given away when I went to my doctor to get my weekly allergy shots.
It wouldn't be far off to say that this comic is one of the reasons Captain America became my favorite Marvel hero as a kid.
The Asthma Monster should have been the big bad of Secret Empire. Would have turned that shit book into an instant classic.

Being asthmatic and Captain America being one of my favorite five heroes, how did I miss these?
(Yes, Cap had a van with a motorcycle in back in the day.)
For someone who has chronic bronchitis, this is pretty hype. And while it's taken to a silly level, I do recall feeling like the Asthma Monster as a kid, when I had to use a small breathing machine to take medicine several times during the day at day care. I feel like this might have actually been written by someone who had asthma, or else someone who was very informed on what it was like. Pretty good for PSA Hell.

Captain America actually did have a van he used in the comics when he went on a sort of tour across the USA and as a mobile base of operations.
So, a couple of things.
First: The kid getting the PSA about animal abuse is going to be seeing Superman, so lucky him.
Second, and you're probably going to get A LOT of comments about this one, but since the only person in the comments section right now is the standard "First!" comment, I'll say this now: Chad is the name of an African country and, if you look on the blackboard, you can see that John's in a Social Studies class.
It is also possible she was in the process of writing the word "CHAPTER".
Ah, well that explains why the episode was late getting out, you had to slip into the Zombie vs Chef battle to get your recording equipment and set everything up.
I remember roleplaying this guy at a superhero RP, and I tried to develop him more as a character. A guy who got a dumb start as a villain, but had huge potential to be a real threat if he could get over his asthma obsession. Also he was the Tinkerer's protege, because the Tinkerer is cool.
Captain America meets The A-Team, make that happen.

+dnmstarsi Oh yeah. I can see it now; there's some big battle of the bands going on, Batman attacks it as part of his quest to rid the world of rock and roll, Jem and the Holograms have to team up with the Misfits to stop him. It would be great.

I like to think that Linkara also misses being in the Snob's old place, which is why he's in a chair by the wall. All he needs are some posters and exploitation comics and he can be the Comic Snob.

Hello PSA HELL it’s been quite a while hasn’t it?
As an asthmatic it’s nice that this comic says that you can be normal while having asthma instead of treating it like it’s something that means you need to be monitored 24/7. It’s always nice to see more of the Contest of Champions especially in the beginning though that last line makes me wonder how Linkara views the rest of the contest.

Yes, Captain America had a van in the comics for a while in the 80s. He also had a nationwide hotline, which he set up with his decades of backpay.
I believe Cap DID have a van during the 80s. He'd drive around the country in it, sleeping in the van, while drawing comic book art in it. Yeah, Cap had a part-time job as a Marvel Comics artist. No joke.
Of course, I woke up about half an hour ago after a night of constantly waking up because it's too damn hot to sleep, so I COULD be remembering one or two things incorrectly, but I'm pretty sure about most of this.
Linkara's 'Teacher Voice' is the BEST part of PSA HELL!
I have so many feelings, being a person who loves Captain America and living with asthma. Mostly, why didn't they do an MCU short of Chris Evans' Captain America doing a "How to Punch out Asthma" Short? That would have made my year.

I never thought how useful Linkara's spell for home defence is. They can thrash all over the place and he wont have to buy new room, since nothing will be destroyed. Happy new 2020 year, sir, thank you for the high quality content.
Considering most of the lousy PSAs we've gotten on this show, a decent PSA attached to a lame story is really all that we can wish for.
As for the storyline, good in-universe explanation for not being in your usual location, though of course we all hope thing will work out for you asap and your office.
While I could understand why people would only want to see the comic and not care about your review.......I personally don’t think they get the point of the show. And besides, your awesome and funny. And your writing has been constantly clever and great. ^^
I mean look at Lord Vader, he rose to second of the Empire while suffering from asthma.

It kind of highlights the problem with using superheros for PSA's. "Yeah some guy cured asthma back in the 1940 but never wrote it down and was killed by Nazi's and no one ever figured out how to do it again." A radioactive spider fixed Peter Parker's eyesight. Might not Pym Particles be a possible cancer treatment besides radiation or surgery?
It doesn't seem even all that hard to give people super strength given there was an entire wrestling federation built around it. I know some people got some terrible side effects from the process, but mainly because the guy doing it was a villain and didn't care. Wouldn't some ethical medical researchers take it up and minimize the side effects?
Carl Rood yeah. It's a big issue with how Integrated superheroes are with society in marvel comics. It creates tons of logical issues that don't correlate since marvel wants the world to reflect the real world.
At least with DC the heroes mostly keep to themselves or are monitored heavily by government.
Carl Rood, or you could gather together guys like Angel and Elixir and figure out a way to duplicate the effects of their powers. Angel's blood gives people healing factors. Elixir can heal any ailment. Hell, Weapon X figured out how to give people healing factors, as did the villain group that canned X-Men power during their time in San Francisco.
Dalton Williams Several storylines do actually have Superman in the Fortress of Solitude attempting to cure Earth diseases like cancer.
I'm reminded of the Marvel post-9/11 "very special issue", which had a number of problems. The first being that whole city blocks in Manhattan literally get demolished and rebuilt seemingly every day. Shouldn't Damage Control been in there doing their thing? Then next was Dr. Doom showing up and crying. They guy's first published appearance had him lift an NYC skyscraper and try to hurl it and its occupants into space because one guy who pissed him off in college lived there. The FF didn't even own the building yet and only rented the top few floors.

I love how the Asthma Monster essentially created a suit capable of preventing any asthma attacks, yet rather than make money from that groundbreaking medical technology, he decided to become a supervillain capable of being defeated by a couple of tiny asthma inhalers.
10:14 Okay, now I can't get the image of the A Team showing up and then trying to help by wildly firing machine guns all over the school out of my brain.

Weird timing I’ve been legit researching asthma for my own story for a while. Either way glad we’re finally doing this!
About the Chad thing. If you look closer you can see that the bottom part of the "D" is actually her crayon. I think it is entirely possible that what she was writing is "Chapter."
That the asthmamonster did not like his medicine i can totally understand. I got diagnosed with asthma about the same time as this comic came out. The inhalators i got were supposed to be the most effective one around, but they sucked badly. Whenever i got an attack the medicine made the process slower, so i could avoid the worst of it, but i still was unable to do any kind of exercise, and any place where anything furry had lived was an invitation to the hospital, no matter what i did. Also the medicine made me shake badly usually headaches afterwards.
Nowdays i have modern medicine and the difference is astounding. To be able to run, workout and even pet a cat from time to time is a near miracle.
If you had asked me in those days i would have had some sympathy with the monster. He would still be wrong, because noone should be forced to experience asthma like that, but i would see where the bitterness of being breathless in a world of happy breathers came from.

I wonder if Linkara will ever review any of those comics where Cap was a Nazi. I'm sure he's got tonnes of requests to do it. Anyone else curious to see the Asthma Monster come back in the modern Marvel comic or movies? Not like updated to fit a more serious tone; just as a like a cute callback. What's stupider - this guy choosing to give everyone else asthma rather than simply take medication for it or that one scientist Spider-Man fought who wanted to turn people into dinosaurs instead of curing cancer?

I actually enjoy this comic a lot, it's silly enough to make me laugh and I enjoy the asthma information and the like. Twas a nice, fine comic, even if it's lame or idiotic when it comes to the plot.
AND THE STORYLINE! Man, I'm just so hyped up for what'll happen next. I tried my damned best to not check what happens on this arc in the full storyline videos because I wanted to experience it with the reviews they come with, so… oooooh man I want to see this contest go ahead, Linkara's fights are always the best.

It's irritating, but the villain's motivations could have made more sense. Asthma was seen for quite a while in the 20th century to be some sort of moral failing in addition to a physical illness, so if you're already a moral degenerate you might as well go full on super villain. The comic touched on this a little in the beginning, but they could have really hammered it home during the unmasking scene.
The medication thing would have made more sense too, if he talked about the near quackery of some asthma cigarettes - some had botanical that would help, others not so much. The rescue injections, if you had to use them often, could make your bones extremely brittle. Rescue inhalers were far, far less convenient to use too.

And of course, what's completely baffling is that the second time the Asthma Monster's caught, he does a complete 180 on his stance of not wanting to take his medication, despite knowing for ages he could just take it and not be different.
The kid not only looks like a nerd, he looks like a mini Clark Kent.
Am I the only one hoping that they bring back The Asthma Monster in a dark and gritty reboot? Like maybe he rides a chopper now...and ditches the asthma gun for a straight up bazooka that he uses to blow up trucks carrying crates of inhalers to orphanages or something. He could maybe fight US-1 in an epic crossover!
Love the Jenny everywhere reference. Also, hope you can rebuild whatever is destroyed in your office. That battle sounds big...
Hey Linkara, I have an interesting fun fact that you can use in your redo of history of power rangers Dino Thunder. You can actually tell what’s stock footage and what’s not. For example, a fight with the tyranno-drones and sometimes a fight with the monster of the week looks like 480p in quality. While stock footage are 360p in quality. The stock footage also used the cheap explosion effect like in the megazord fights. Soon enough, I could tell what was stock footage and what wasn’t. Also the tyranny drones costumes are heavily modified sting wingers. Great video. Have a fantastic day or night.
Not to mention the Super Sentai suits tend to look more reflective compared to the American footage.

I don't know if this is an error you made or the comic made, but "asthma medication" isn't usually an allergy medicine, especially not for responding to an attack. Allergy medicine is used in treating asthma IF allergies are a trigger, but its use there is exactly the same as anyone suffering from chronic allergies uses it. Asthma medication used to treat an ongoing attack is actually an inhaled steroid like albuterol which does have some noticeable side effects to the users.
Speaking as someone who grew up with asthma, I wish I'd had this PSA comic as a kid. It does contain a lot of helpful information on managing and living with asthma. I fortunately did not suffer from fear of "being different" as many members of my family suffered from asthma and so while not all my friends did nor do people who've never had an asthma attack really understand the sheer terror an asthma attack can induce in a child (the best way I've been able to describe the feeling of terror is with the line "imagine if you were drowning in air"), I knew I wasn't alone in what I was going through, my grandpa had it and many of my cousins did as well.
Anyway, thanks for not being to harsh on the PSA segments, I think those were actually really good based on my experience, not just passable. The story was clearly meant for younger kids and was clearly focused on giving them a fun way to learn management techniques and reduce the fear of using an inhaler. In that, I think that as silly as the story was, this is one of the better PSAs you've covered.
Maybe that's how they'll beat Thanos in A:IW2. Have the asthma monster give him asthma.
I'm surprised you didn't make a 1990 "It" reference when the kids sprayed the asthma monster in the face with the inhalers. Eddie did exactly that to Pennywise and it MELTED HIS FACE OFF!

I went to camp wood craft in old forge New York as a kid, they did a week for kids with asthma and we got these! Was pretty rad for a 6-10 year old!

So Asthma Monster decided the best course of action was to study chemical engineering, a field that sucks up your credit hours and actual hours, makes you question your sanity, and shakes out from 50% to 70% of the class, just to be petty. I'm sure a mental health PSA should star this guy.
The Asthma Monster prequel trilogy was never as good as the original one: A New Medicine, The Asthma Monster Strikes Back, and Return of the Inhaler.
So I'm watching this in the middle of an epidemic and thinking . " Represents asthma " I then imagine struggled machine breathing. Then I imagine that this representative of asthma can constrict breathing of anyone around the world. I then imagine Darth Vader constricting someone's breathing then saying " apology accepted " .

Also also, I just checked, and the big yellow totally normal-looking van (and its motorcycle-holder) was totally a thing for a while (about 5 years), and discovered I'm weirdly disappointed that it didn't carry over into the MCU.
