Cruise control repair

Hella cruise controls are used by many car manufacturers. Even though the connectors and electronics may be be slighty different, I am sure that the same problems show up and you can do the repair yourself.

These modules are notoriously unreliable. After buying one from eBay and one from a junk yard-both bad. I followed this procedure and resoldered everything on the board except the big IC. Even under extreme magnification, nothing appeared bad, but this fixed it. As another commenter mentioned, I used acetone to removed the coating. Many thanks.

Excellent tutorial! Thank you. I'm about to pull the CC control board off my newly acquired 99 Cabrio. i'm hoping this is the issue. If not, I see some on ebay for $20.

Methyl ethyl ketone will lift the conformal coating like magic, if you can find some.

Hello, you can see on the video that wires are soldered to the module, as I understand it for checking on the table, can you tell how you connected it.

A simple pencil eraser will clean contacts also. For heavy work, you can put it in your electric drill and spin it. Just a cheap alternative to using a fiberglass pencil

most common electrical failure is caused by corroded contacts in Ford cars. I suspect this is the case in all other manufacturers. PB, electronic eng. technician.

I don't understand the part about springs at the relay. There is a relay in my Audi for the cruise control system in the fuse box. What is cleaning springs referring to?

An other good way to refresh the soldering, is to bake the modul in the owen at 300*F for 8 minutes.

Acetone worked well enough to remove the conformal coating from my 87 Mercedes cruise control amp.

In my car it was under the dashboard on the driver's side. I had a VW cabrio, possibly that it is different in other cars. But it seems to me that the module must be in the vicinity of the steering column.

To be honest, mine was deep inside the dashboard. I could not see it till I reached with my hands inside. That's the only thing I can think of.
Maybe you can follow the wiring from switch?

I have a 92 Mercedes with cruise control, when I activate the cruise control it works but it is pulsating like 100rpm you can really feel it in the seats. Any idea what it could be?

Could be all kind of things. Theres a video what you can use to test all mechanic parts. If that works its probably the cruise controlbox

Mike if its the same cruise control box then it should be somewere under your dashboard. But i am not sure if its used in your car, but it could be its the same.

Mijn complimenten beste, een goed verzorgde DIY video met een heldere uitleg en lekkere muziek ;-), ik heb ook een Cruise Control probleem met mijn Audi A4 (deed het bij aankoop al niet) maar ik ben er nog niet uit of het nu in de schakelaar zit of dat het de printmodule betreft, maar daar komen we wel achter....
Maar graag zou ik al het e.e.a. van je willen vernemen, zoals met welk soort soldeer, temperatuur en soldeervet je de klus geklaard heb en waar ik dat spul om de print te reinigen kan kopen/bestellen....?

Ik heb gewoon een standaard Weller soldeerbout gebruik en normaal soldeer. De ouderwetse 60/40 legering. Ik zou geen vetten gebruiken om de print te solderen dit zou de print kunnen aantasten. De Trichlooretheen heb ik via een website gevonden op internet. Er zijn inmiddels wel andere middelen leverbaar als vervanger voor Trichlooretheen. Als je Google gebruikt is het vast wel ergens te vinden. Ik zou de factuur ergens op moeten zoeken om te achterhalen waar ik het middel gekocht heb.

Can anyone help me with my cruise control settings on a 1995 Pathfinder SE V6 the button is on the left hand side by the power windows when I turn it to on the light goes green the setting acceleration buttons are on my steering wheel when I get up to speed I try to engage the cruise control setting and on my dashboard the cruise control light is on but it is blinking and the cruise does not connect what can I do to fix this so I have cruise control can anyone help me thank you
