In 1953, the Florida Legislature declared Long Beach Resort a municipality and Churchwell was elected mayor. He remained mayor until 1970, when Long Beach Resort was consolidated with several other municipalities into Panama City Beach.
Awesome video. 6 years before I was born but had a great uncle who lived in Panama City and my mom and her parents would go down and stay at long beach resort. I still have a long beach resort bumper sticker from the early 60's that use to belong to my mom who has passed on. I have so many great memories of PCB.But its just not what it use to be.My opinion they destroyed her

i remember Long Beach area. Never knew a resort was there! What is located there today? I used to stay in Laguna Beach once
Long Beach Resort Condominium is on the site of the Hang Out today. Other businesses occupy the rest, including a Walmart.
