  • Beginning in the 1940's, the 'Hang Out' on Long Beach Resort was the most popular attraction on Panama City Beach, Florida for many years. Damaged beyond repair by Hurricane Eloise in 1975 it was razed and replaced by beach side campgrounds.

I have a long beach resort bumper sticker probably 60 years old.brought back with my mom from one of her trips down there as a teenager. I sure do miss her and many great memories of vacations down there

I was so young but I do remember going to the Hang Out & watching my parents dance to the sounds of chubby checker. Maybe in the early 60's

I remember riding by Dracula's Castle in the 70's. A man dressed in full make-up and Dracula costume, waving at passersby from a balcony. And, OF COURSE we went in!!! And, everytime we rode by, we'd look for him and get excited as kids do! I miss the novelty and charm, mom and pop creatives really letting it all hang out. The whole drive was so colorful, business owner went out of their way to attract you in a homemade way. So cool!

@@dawnisrael9375, I think it was located on Grand Lagoon, near the bridge. Probably displaced by other businesses as that area experienced a lot of growth.

The hang out was the mecca for teens as far away as Ohio and Michigan and every southern teen listened to what was on the juke boxes there for an entire decade of the 1960s. In 1971 a hurricane destroyed this place.
