despite how they're all breaking the rules of the riff-off and blatantly ignoring/interrupting the bellas, i did really like their mashups, when the EDM dudes came in with that remix of "Grenade" i was in awe-- i love how it was so many different genres mixed together, whoever mixed these together was a genius.

They actually did lose. Maybe you never watched the movies so I'm explaining to you or to someone else how it works!
The game is easy,
Rule number one:
you have to sing a song starting from the last word that the other group sang, for example, "oh mickey you're so fine (Mickey), you're so fine, and you're mine (like a virgin)" but the song has to match to the category given.
Rule number 2: Usually only covers, during the second movie they got disqualified because Emily sang an original song that didn't even match the category either.
Rule number 3: No instruments!
In an acapella game, which means that the only instrument you can use is your voice (although Becca did use cups to audition in the first movie, and I think there was a group during the second movie that used their bodies for some parts).
They broke the third rule using instruments, so they did lost while The Bellas (the main girls) won, this is actually the first riff off that they have won on screen, but they still painted it as if they lost.

@@user-qe2zh9ks1h yes they lost if we are just talking about riff offs, but what they showed the Bella’s is to not be judge mental and act superior to actual musicians, who if the rules were just slightly changed, could also have a blast playing the game. The whole one group dynamic was actually super fun and creative and it makes for a more positive and less competitive dynamic. That was what the bands wanted to show. That they just love music and there doesn’t have to be any restrictions on what or what isn’t allowed.

We need such films today - a lot of good music in great arrangements. Pitch Perfect 4 needed for now! I love the whole series of movies for great musical arrangements, light story and great acting.
Honestly guys the band's are not a college cappella group so they don't really understand a 'riff off' so they played the way they know how and they sounded better by working together rather than against each other.

Yep. It’s amazing seeing musicians do this in real life where they just feed off of each other’s energy and performances. Most people think it has to be rehearsed ahead of time for it to sound good but spontaneity can sometimes be greater.
Except that the entire point of a capella is to use nothing but your voice. I'll admit that everyone was amazing especially the unison with the other singers. But I have to side with the Bella's in saying they won since using an instrument goes against the nature of a capella.

Well, you can't just accept to participate in a competition , knowing already that it has some specific rules and then break all of them while your opponents do the opposite.

So technically, I don't think any rules were broken because they failed to properly explain that riff offs are restricted to acappella only. It wouldn't be fair to expect everyone to know the rules of a specific type of competition if you don't explain it properly haha.

-Ruby’s intro to Zombie made me reminisce while Anna’s chorus of Human was simply amazing. Both are astounding and make me wish for full covers.
-The awed reaction absolutely portrayed Anna’s talent. Although I do question the nature of Ruby’s expression at 1:49, wishful thinking makes me hope it wasn’t an insinuation of disgust (hard to say based on her antagonistic role)
-On the other hand, I was a little surprised that they paused to let Anna sing in the first place

The Bellas are incredibly pathetic in this scenario. Sure, the other groups aren't following the rules for a Riff Off, but neither did they agree to those conditions. As a professional, be prepared to change and step up to the occasion. It can intimidating, but considering they were a competitive group for so long they should be able to rise above. But then again this was plot for a movie and not real life! So, I'm rambling :P

I think the major issue is that they both agreed to a capella riff off. If it was a standard riff off, it's one thing. After all it's important to adapt and have fun especially the way they did in unison. But if the nature of it was a capella, then the Bella's have a point.
