Watched the movie three times already and the opening scene now about six times. And this, dear kids, is a trademark of a very good movie. It is rewatchable. It has scenes and lines and soundtracks, that stay with you, even after you may have looked at it from another angle. It keeps on giving and giving the more you look at it. And for that genre and the love and dedication that went into this scene, I have nothing but the utmost admiration for everybody who was involved in making this.
@LeoS A particular movie is a trademark of a very good movie? You right there buddy? I mean I love Inglourious* Basterds don't get me wrong, Tarantino is just as much of a genius as Wright but you can't exactly say a whole movie is a trademark or a sign of a good movie 😂 Baby Driver does things Inglourious Basterds doesn't even dream of doing, and vice versa, it's a little mistaken to say either of them are medium defining though..
You know I’ve watched this scene at least 10 times and every time I do I start looking at Hawkeyes and realize they’re still 30k lol but I finally watched the entire movie the other day and I gotta say its pretty disappointing kinda like Stripes, Super Troopers, and Full Metal Jacket. @@MattKremer39 The colour choice was questionable but I don't think the car choice was. Yeah, they have something of a reputation, but that also implies a benefit - it's not an uncommon car. There will likely be at least a few of them around town and once they switch cars, the police might waste a little more time and resources on those other WRXs. I mean, I might personally have gone with an Evo VIII, but I'm just a Lancer fanboy so whatever.
hamza kamli that’s really cool. My dad had a similar experience with the movie Driving Miss Daisy where he was with a glass company that redid the glass in all the cars for the movie
Jarnotaurus most important thing is: if you're not sure drive slowly but fast enough as to not bother drivers behind you and keep your distance from the car in front of you. always look carefully and rly turn your head around so your examiner knows you're watching and being attentive. overall just take your time.if you don't succeed in parking on first try,if you stall the engine, look at the gear shift and whether it's in the right position or not, then look at your surroundings/blink before starting to drive. at one point during the exam,i drove 10 km/h (6,2 miles per hour) over the speed limit and still passed,so it's probably gonna go well lol.
Me from India, went to this movie without any expectations, there were only 10+ guys there. Man, I gotto tell you all, I just enjoyed the movie... one of the best ever I saw..
When this song came on in the theatre, me and my husband's jaws fell. Then I got really happy and excited. It wasn't that popular when it came out but was in my music collection in highschool in the 90's. I was the weird kid at school listening to old music and wearing bell bottoms. I mean, bell bottoms did come into fashion a few years later, but um... not so fashionable when I started wearing them. It was only that much weirder to people because of the English accent as an immigrant kid from the UK. Give a kid who has had to wear a uniform to school all her life the chance to pick out her own school clothes and... you get a weird kid.
Edgar Wright is a genius. Not only did he make sure that every split second has it's own detail, but this scene is extremely universal. I have played many songs of different types like eurobeat, driving hard bass, other rock/blues (like Bellbottoms), and every car handling movement, camera angle, head turn, and facial expression...they're all in sync. Outstanding job.
Im not sure what you meant by the last part. The sheer genius and brilliance of this intro scene is how insanely synchronized it is with the song "Bellbottoms". This includes not just BPM which is a given and which a ton of film scenes already implement, but the actual nuances and tempo changes and each bass kick each snare each lyric each guitar strum, it was as if the original song had been specifically designed and tailored for this movie, rather than the other way around. It is simply mindblowing and by far the most musically integrated scene I have ever seen. So when you saw the scene is "universal" and all the movements/angles/expressions are in sync with other genres and songs I'm not sure what you mean. If anything, the insane precision and tailor-made specificity of this scene for "Bellbottoms" means its LESS universal and loses all of its appeal when slapped onto a random song. The only thing it would "match" is probably the BPM I guess, or maybe some coincidental beats here and there. Btw I dont mean any of this offensively, I am a violin player and rhythm game enthusiast so I just wanted to really highlight the significance of this musically synchronized masterpiece haha. Also 1:53 this is something I only noticed just now but even the SHOTGUN blasts are perfectly in-sync
Apart from the fingerprints they left on interior and exterior of the bandit vehicle, residue from discharged firearms transferred from clothing to seats, and the CCTV that can be cross referenced to clean vehicle entering and leaving car park just before/after bandit vehicle.
This movie was, and still is, a total riot from start to finish. My only complaint is that more time should've been given to develop the love story so Debora's decisions in the finale wouldn't seem so stupid, but that's such a small problem in very well-made movie. This scene alone makes this movie an instant classic! The stunt-work, cinematography, and soundtrack/editing are superb! I'm still in shock that my in-laws didn't care for it - makes me question who I married.
One of the best would most likely be one of the classics such as the following; Goodfellas, The departed, or even pulp fiction and natural born killers but this will definitely be one for the books with how much detail they added such detail into the small things. The small hints they dropped and how he wrote baby as someone you feel like you've been been friends with for years. Truly again I am impressed with his work.
At 0:00 you can hear a ringing sound, which is what Baby would listen to all the time, and then it transitioned into the sound of the string in the Bellbottoms song intro. just genius!
This is just plain movie perfection Every cut, sound effect, movement is on beat with the song, the scene is super fun and realistic, and even the most unlikely looking stunts were actually done with a real Subaru practically. Honestly unbelievable how good this single scene is.
According with the english grammatical laws, the correct word to say is "among" not "between" because of the amount of people. Among if for a group from 3 and more people, like a online game team, kinda CS:GO Between is just for two, like a couple.
The genius of Edgar Wright is joy to see how he works Bell bottoms by the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and the Harlem shuffle, genius. The cast was great too. Who doesn’t love the soundtrack, great driving sequence’s, and the ensemble cast, the Harlem Shuffle scene is another great synchronized beautifully, and all in one continuous shot, also the lyrics written everywhere is great.
I got to this scene just because of JBSX. Pretty pro indeed, reckon they wrote the whole thing down to Bell-bottoms rhythm. BTW, Since this is NY and not LA, my bets there isn't any Doors in it, init ?

movie was gritty, completely bonkers, and very well acted. huge twist at end and oscar deserved for this movie, ansel, and kevin spacey. my god it was awesome!
Or better yet They should've made a plot twist, that Baby was the mastermind for all of it the whole time. Lol. I mean I love the movie, but I wish they would've made like a plot twist we couldn't see coming.
Well, that's true, or at least it was back in the days without cellphones, street cameras, etc. People even robbed 2 banks in a day... And we're not talking abou back in the Boney and Clyde era, but even in the 70s
that's what I love about this movie, man. It's the realism. Like when Baby's playing his music at maximum volume, but somehow over the top of it he hears the sounds of gunfire within the bank with heavy closed doors across a 4-lane highway.....
Oh_Dat_guy actually there is the lady in the back comments as they're first driving off. Jon says something quickly like Whoa! other then that cool scene.
Ben Young I know. What were the chances that two other red cars would be driving along side one another at the exact time that the genius driver needed it.
If that annoyed you then what should've already tipped you off earlier is the thought that no getaway driver would ever pick a bright red car for a getaway vehicle. The movie is largely fantasy, but if you accept that then you can enjoy it.

A movie Fan's dream. The editing, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the choreography. A damn near flawless film.
i seem to be in the minority when it comes to the editing i think edgar cuts too damn much. But that's my only complaint the fact that he doesn't shake the hell out of the camera makes me real happy.
PapiDarko The editing works for the most part but there are some incredible shots that last about only a couple seconds.
the only cuts i had a problem with was after the stop light where he gives 4 different angles of the same cop car crashing.
I was recently watching Bullet and i love the editing in that, of course it's a more subdue car chase and not as flashy. But the editing is fantastic.

I mean I love Inglourious* Basterds don't get me wrong, Tarantino is just as much of a genius as Wright but you can't exactly say a whole movie is a trademark or a sign of a good movie 😂 Baby Driver does things Inglourious Basterds doesn't even dream of doing, and vice versa, it's a little mistaken to say either of them are medium defining though..

how people drive during the practical exam: calm, carefully, attentive
how people drive 2 hours after getting their driver's license:

BRuh HAHAHAH
When this song came on in the theatre, me and my husband's jaws fell. Then I got really happy and excited. It wasn't that popular when it came out but was in my music collection in highschool in the 90's. I was the weird kid at school listening to old music and wearing bell bottoms. I mean, bell bottoms did come into fashion a few years later, but um... not so fashionable when I started wearing them. It was only that much weirder to people because of the English accent as an immigrant kid from the UK. Give a kid who has had to wear a uniform to school all her life the chance to pick out her own school clothes and... you get a weird kid.
Get away driving. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.
*a modified subaru, they used 2 subarus in this getaway, a rwd subaru and a normal awd one

Agreed.
SK, they actually just had one WRX it was just converted to Rwd, it also had twin callipers on the back rotors to help engage a slide.
Outstanding job.
as you are, so are you.
@K. Victor Figures, I meant to say any song of that genre besides Bellbottoms
BPM
@@SyenPie yeah, guess you could say that
