- The Barden Bellas try to start a riff off with the other bands on tour but things get out of hand quickly when no one follows the rules.
What is Pitch Perfect 3 (2017) about?
Now graduated from college, realizing it takes more than a cappella to get by, all the Bellas return in the final chapter in the beloved series. After the highs of winning the World Championships, the Bellas find themselves split apart and discovering there are no job prospects for making music with only your mouth. But when they get the chance to reunite for a European USO tour, this group of awesome nerds will come together to make some music, and some questionable decisions, one last time.

The silent hero of these riff-offs is whoever wrote all these brilliant musical arrangements and gets no credit ever. I sure hope they’re well paid.

What most people don't get is, the other bands are just enjoying music that's why they sing together, while Bellas are so focused on being competitive.
No they aren’t following the rules and they know it, and enjoy interrupting the Bella’s and then mock them while they’re singing
I agree, there's joy in singing like there is in dancing. And sharing that with other people who love it is really beautiful.

Yup. Shocking how many ppl missed it. This is the turning point for them. It shows how rigid they are with their rules while others are just enjoying music. This was a bad look for the bellas, and it is intentional. The breaking the rules claim just make them look like whiny losers.
@gcbryan89 Gonna be honest, this movie is my least favorite of the 3. Would have gave it more points if the other bands joined in the end.

Anna Kendrick singing Human in this scene sounded even more impressive because it was pitched up a few keys, so it sounded so much higher

I actually loved that the other bands had a good time singing together. Shows great sportsmanship. Like they were genuinely having a great time while the Bellas were trying to divide them.
But they were mocking them in the beginning…

Honestly of the three riff offs, I think this has to be the most successful and actually got through the most songs…
Pretty sure it was the second one.
It is a little conflicting whether I like that they’re singing together and using instruments or whether I dislike it. It doesn’t seem like a real competition because it’s supposed to be a cappella and they’re supposed to be on teams. But it’s way more exciting with what the other teams were doing
i really didn't understand the point of putting an Acapella group with actual bands in the same event. the musical technical gap is too wide. for the actual bands, someone being able to sing is not that big of a deal even if you put like twelve of them together. since the Bellas are unable to play any actual musical instrument it puts them in a completely different category and it's not really fair comparing them to bands.
ALSO, it seems the concept of "competing" almost seems hilarious to the bands. they don't really see the point of "proving who is better" (because of the different experiences of being a college Acapella group and an actual band, and the fact they already think they're better than them) so they don't take it seriously and start having fun all together
It was all fun and games until the end imo. Using the electro guitar to drown the voices of bellas was just rude.
@@adar3605 Bellas were just super insecure and complained the entire time instead of enjoying playing with everyone else like the other groups did.
I didn’t like it when they start to use microphones bc the bella’s were just using their voices. of course the bands with electric guitars are gonna beat people who are just singing
If nobody but one group cares about the rules and that group throws a fit, they lost in the minds of everyone. They should have just shrugged it off an attempt to keep it going. This is not a situation where you want to be best. you want to be perceived as the best. If you whine, you lose.
I love how you can see Beca listening intently and bouncing to the beat compared to the others since she's used to this type of mixing and is trying to adapt or more say adapt BACK to how she used to do things to create something new
I never noticed how when Aubrey says the other teams disqualified themselves by using musical instruments, Beca laughs like "Sure Aubrey, let's go with that."
Becca was also the one vibing while the other groups sang. I reckon if they had invited her up to sing with them she might have.

As much as I love Evermoist, I do think this is the first time that The Bellas won a riff off, considering the fact that they used musical instruments where infact they were supposed to sing Acapella
I think that in this case they "lose" because they were the least having fun with music while everyone else was vibing, they were too focus on "keeping the rules" when it wasn't a formal competition with others professional Acapella singers.
Except that the rule "only vocals" was only mentioned after they had already started using instruments. At that point you can't claim it is against the rules anymore, you should have just said it earlier.
Before Evermoist started singing they never made a mention of this.

Imo the point of this rip-off is that other groups don’t really care for participating in the rip-off, they probably think the Bellas’ showing off and so they don’t do a capella but instead using instruments to mess with them.
Nope. This scene was to show what losers the bellas are. They are too obsessed with competing, where all of their previous movies were about competing while this time, the others just want to enjoy music. This scene shows how they have lost that joy.

interestingly Becca does the exact same thing that got the Bellas disqualified in the first Riff-Off when she launches into 'Only Human', going from 'Grenade's next line "I would go through all this pain" and starting with "I'm only human." which is close but not an exact match.
Great characterisation really to be honest, showing that just like before she doesn't concern herself with the exact minutiae of the rules, only the broad strokes in order to make something new and amazing.
Passing on details from a movie- related article: The next word in "grenade" song is "but" and Beca sings "but I'm only human". This is the correct lyric of the song.

What anoys me is that the Bellas only 'lost' because the others played/sung louder because their music was amplified.
Even though they broke the rules by playing instruments it's the fact they played over the bellas when it could have just turned into a friendly jam - the instrument groups decided to exclude the Bellas

I think they don't exclude the bellas. The bellas just don't wanna join, and keep it only oral. I personaly think they would let the bellas join if they wanted. But we will never know :(
The other bands were having fun, and honestly followed the rules up until the stage production asked them for sounds checks. It makes sense that the artists who use instruments would have to test them. The bellas came across as really petty to me tbh.
