Reaperwing47 but him wearing the black suit signifies that he was under the influence of bad guys. Bringing the silver one back at the end kinda signifies that he is once again the good robocop we all know and love.
They did this in one of the Robocop series or movies (not part of the major three films) back in the day. He had a friend that was a cop and went through the same process as Murphy. Forget the name but you should be able to google it if you are interested.

Fan of both movies, and props you guys did a great updated and modernized version. V1 definitely looked better and I loved the gray coloring you used for it, as this actually looked a lot better than the R2/R3 fiberglass versions. Your effects were the strongest part of the movie IMHO.
If they wanted fast, they should've just built an EM208 like in 4:40 and animated it like the fx team in Chappy did. RoboCop was supposed to be heavy because of the life support system built in instead of just baterries, circuitry boards and chips. It's what made the original suit badass, because it had the vulnerability of human organs enhanced and protected by mechanical parts. It was meant to be a tank.
Deathbrewer I see where you goimf probably why i do support robocop reboot design movie but made me not that interested. But time i like the new look for an alternative design of it
Man. They should consider to have a sequel.. this was a great movie. Is bad that people dont recognize and appreciate the great effort and great effects. Please make another one.
I liked this movie a lot. And I mean A LOT. I thought it was a great take on the original source material and Joel did an amazing job in the role. Anyone agree?
Absolutely Love this! nobody ever dislikes a peek behind the curtain!! I love to see the driving force behind what makes a movie work! awesome, thanks again.
Haha agreed! It still bums me out every time i think about this remake! How on earth do you F that up when you've frekking NAILED the silver updated suit!?
Wow I guess I was the only guy who liked it. I didn't go in expected Robocop 6 or whatever. I saw it as a reboot and for what it was I was entertained. But as far as visuals I think the team did a truly amazing job!
I thought this movie was really good. While it lacked the humor and satire of the original film, the visual effects of the Robocop suit were amazing, almost seamless between what was CGI effect and a physical prosthetic. I certainly cannot wait to see what Legacy does next!
Looks like a bat man suit with out the cape, heck with the stunts. The old Robocop was actually more robotic and more intimidating. Especially with the sound affects, loved it when the new suit came off and the old suit was put back on, awesome touch at the end.
i respect and love the way of making the suit. For me personal: i didn't like the first design of the (19th century) Robocop suit. But 2014 remake. I frickin LOVE!!!
This movie could have been so good. I feel like the suit creators did a phenomenal job w/ making a modernized Robocop suit. If only they'd been directed to make Robo look more beefy... more like a ROBOT... rather than a sleek man in a suit.
I couldn't agree more. In art the first thing we recognize is shape. If you were to look at a silhouette of the original Robo then look at one of the modernized version, the one that would be more intimidating, more robotic would be the original. The newer one? Not so much intimidating, and not very robotic feeling. It has a greater sense of man, not machine.
*_+StopWhatYerDoing_* The plot was set on future, they had to be realistic. Robotics technology is developing fast. I think the suit was perfect. The only thing the movie needed was a bigger threat.
Anik Mirza I understand that technology is developing fast, but it wouldn't have been difficult to have beefed it up more to give it a more robotic and intimidating feel. I was strictly speaking about the design choices. Perhaps more robotic movements would have been nice from Joel's performance, but not the exact movements or pace from the original. I'm not asking for the same amount of bulkiness Peter Weller wore, just something that looks less like a man.
StopWhatYerDoing you r missing the point in future prosthetic would be so good, that it would work and look similar to human body. We already have bionic arm and legs advanced. They r talking about the future, the story had to be believable. I know people like the original more, but that was 30 years ago. A lot changed since then.
Anik Mirza this is a movie we are talking about. An art form. They don't necessarily have to conform to the restraints of "the future". I get your point, but they don't need to limit themselves to something because it makes sense. It's called an artistic choice. Hell, in the original robocop when he took of his helmet, they took off his chin and neck guard. It would have made sense to leave it on because it was only the helmet he removed, but aesthetically speaking, it looked awful. And if he were to take that off too it would mess up the flow. So they made the artistic choice to remove it and leave out the removal of the gaurds.
“I also want to add that I really think it deserves a second chapter should be made of this new version of (RoboCop; It is because despite it being rated only two stars, it was great to see, and to add this movie ended with a cliffhanger type of ending.”
Not to dismiss the hard and brilliant work done here, but as to the shape design of the suit, there seems to be a certain element of heroic, knight-like proportion with a protruding chest that is lost in translation from the old suit to the new, replaced by a goofier, less broad shouldered, more distended-belly-type, laid-back everyman body shape, for which I believe Crysis paved the unfortunate way. That superhero shape in the original was a huge part in expressing the essentially chivalrous figure of what its creators in the story intended to be a brand new, shining and valiant law enforcement method of the next millenium. In the movie, an essential story element was also the descent from this initial alpha crime fighter armor posture and shine to the decayed, damaged, and abandoned look of a man in conflict with himself, and with technology that has devoured him, now desperately in search for his humanity, whilst idealistically striving to establish higher values in the reality of greed and corruption of mankind. Do designers nowadays think about such nuances at all, or are they simply copycats of current trends even to the point of mismatch in expression? Do they give thought to such important threads within the very fabric of the work as a whole, which inseparably bind the story and visuals together?
Its also a refference to the old movie where one of his hands was shot and when they cut the other one when the scientist ask if they should let the good hand on, this time around they let that as a symbol that he still human in a way and mix in the hand id gun idea.
i really loved this suit. Wish i could have one. Anyway, i also like the movie. I Saw the original one way back, but i prefer this one. The suit, the helmet, and everything about the movie, i liked. some people disliked it, i however really enjoyed it. Good job legacy effects.
VHS I do agree with you! This black suit looks something else...and also his freedom of movement and velocity let him feel not like a powerful Robot like the original Robocop was
The Man From Krypton There's also something called snitching. Not eveybody does it, except you. Mind your business. Both suits are cool (putting it out there).
General MVP both suits are cool in your opinion. There are many other people that think the original RoboCop suit was better. I happen to think this RoboCop should be in a junkyard somewhere, the guy was a hell of a lot more human than robot anyway. Also, WTH was the weird tangent on snitching about?
The Man From Krypton I agree, but also understand, it's harder than it seems to make. Besides, look back at the classic, the movement is not that distinct. All relies on the actor and how he makes it happen.
The fact that they turned the modern version robocop into black suit is so badass in my opinion. I love the remake version even many people don't like it.
Which obviously would be the goal of a company wanting to convince the public that this is a cybernetically enhanced man, not just a robot with a pretty human face. I doubt they would want to show how little actually remained of the man. Does that make sense?
rob jabbaz Because you are obviously just a butthurt franchise fan spewing nonsense, knowing nothing about applied product design (which in the remake is levels above the original..)
rob jabbaz I'm not making excuses. It's simply that the new movie makes more sense than the old one and actually makes the whole idea seem real and not just something to laugh at. If the original didn't have those cheesy tastless jokes and unnecessary gore scenes, it too could have done the story more justice. Doesn't matter anyway, I know I won't convince you.
Movie was underated love the fact that they forced him to use the tactical black body, but ended the movie in his preferred body. I liked the black body but the silver one was the best. But I definitely love the fact, ROBOCOP CAN RUN!!! Also looking forward to the rumored ROBOCOP RETURNS with Peter Weller reprising the role.
+arcticridge The movie was pretty good. Everyone just calls it bad because it's a "reboot" or "remake". Everyone hates first before giving it a chance. I watched it and enjoyed the movie for what it was, not for what it isn't.
it is a bad reboot/remake because it is worse than the original. if the original has never been made it still would be a bad movie except for a few scenes.
+krz bra Just rewatched it the other day. I still believe it's good. even compared to the original it's a unique film. My only complaint is they should've kept with the silver suit over the full black.
The idea is to make a movie that is as good as the original or close to it, not to make a movie that is better than the original. Unfortunately I have to agree with you on the Robocop remake. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. It was Okay.
I don't know why people are comparing the 2014 remake with the original 1987 version. There's absolutely no excuse for all the hate. I'll give the remake a fair chance. I think it looks good in my opinion. You have to know that these guys make remakes because they can attract new fans. But if you give it a lot of hate, you're only dooming the series that remake is in.
***** The movie is fun, but unlike the first one, it is nothing special. Just another PG-13 action flick, and not the best one. People are mad because it did the first one a disservice. It's only problem is that it has "Robocop" in it.
That awful rubberish look black suit and lets not forget that stupid exposed human hand. Hate that shit. The V1 armor was a decent modern take to the classic Rob Bottin's design. Next time they reboot Robocop, please hire DECENT script writers, because that movie was atrocious compared to the original one.
+André Kevermann the idea behind this movie (man into machine then into product) was amazing and that's actually why I liked it alot. its not unwatchable but as a fan the original... Is choose the original any day.
I'm not much of a fan of the black suit. However I love the silver suit and I appreciate the homage to the 1987 look. If a sequel was ever made, I personally would have loved to see the silver suit be more blue like the suit in RoboCop 2. I don't know why, but I really love the blue armor from RoboCop 2 more than the original silver armor from the first movie and I think the 2014 take on the classic suit would look badass with that RoboCop 2 kind of blue color.
This film was atrocious. The allure of the first was its excess. The violence arguably made it a better film. Also, Boddiker was the quintessential villain. Everything in this script was watered down.
The problem is, it LOOKS like a suit, whereas in the original, it Robocop LOOKED like a robot with a human face. It's amazing that after 30 years, effects have gotten somehow less impressive.
All that effort and it still looked like a rubber suit. Rob Bottin's original design, although more uncomfortable and less technologically advanced, looked more like a machine, much to the credit of Peter Weller's commitment to 'selling' it in his movements.
@Brandon Brooks well, you're right on a lot of things man, but even with Infinity War, they still used a partial practical model (helmet, chest piece) for lighting reference purposes. All I'm saying is I hate when people complain about CGI, when even the most resourceful and talented studios fail to make it 100% perfect; as if it were something super easy to make, when it involves tons of hard work.
V1 costume awesome damn near perfect,5 stars. The use of a motorcycle was nice. However the flat black paint, CGI, story all sadly failed. The story of Murphy could have continued as the organics aged and eventually failed or were put on ice. The new Robocop should have been a new story altogether not a remake. If you wanted to get the ending right, post credits, Cyberdyne systems gets hold of Bob Morton's technological information from a hard drive recovered from his burnt house. God I have thought a out this way too much.
But at least, even tho they weren't the best, they kept the originl concept of RoboCop and didn't come with this crap! They are still better then this RoboCop remake. So Robert is right, gj modern Hollywood.
There was no excuse for the all-black suit whatsoever. RoboCop is silver and black, period. You lose that visual, you lose the character's iconography. Even though I'm not a fan of the exposed right hand, the silver suit shown in the film was perfectly acceptable. I can look at it and instantly know who it is. The all-black suit? Might as well be the Nolan/Bale Batman, which was ugly enough by itself. There was no need to force RoboCop into that mold.
Exactly. When I first saw the silver (robot) suit, its like "they made a perfect redesign of robocop" and when he turns into the black suit, its like an all new character. "That's not robocop! they just used the name robocop and created a whole new image of him"
I couldn't agree more. The new silver suit they created was actually a really cool update of the original. The all black suit was generic and sucky looking. However if there is a sequel 'groans' I think most of us will guess that the silver suit will make a more permanent return.
The black one hide the amazing details of suit, the silver one show all of the details

Which obviously would be the goal of a company wanting to convince the public that this is a cybernetically enhanced man, not just a robot with a pretty human face. I doubt they would want to show how little actually remained of the man. Does that make sense?
Oh sure. In that case, why not just make the suit look like a shirt and tie with a pair of pleated slacks?
rob jabbaz Because you are obviously just a butthurt franchise fan spewing nonsense, knowing nothing about applied product design (which in the remake is levels above the original..)
Whos butthurt? Look at you making excuses for the movie like its your boyfriend.
rob jabbaz I'm not making excuses.
Man a whole lot of work went in to making a completely generic, unremarkable suit.
This guys has the coolest job ever
Can we see the Making of for a good movie?
I like Robocop, doesn't matter old or new as long as it's Robocop I'm happy! hihihi
Second best Robocop movie
Hated the black suit look, it looks like all it's missing is an ark reactor
V1 was better
+GESSO217 they should of kept it
That awful rubberish look black suit and lets not forget that stupid exposed human hand.
"Here's how we did a worse job than some guys 20 years before us did"
This movie compared to the original was so..so bad
Amazing artwork
Not a bad film but I prefer the original
Original 10/10
Reboot 8/10
This film was atrocious. The allure of the first was its excess. The violence arguably made it a better film. Also, Boddiker was the quintessential villain. Everything in this script was watered down.
Working in the fabrication shop at Legacy is my dream job
To bad the movie sucked, because it looks like a lot of work went into it.
+Joseph Scott Better than hitman
that still dos-not take away its suck...
Widlem - CS:GO *****
Joseph Scott True, i'm still trying to take away the pain I got from paying for a ticket to see Hitman.
have you seen BvS... if your like me your pain will be replaced with that... Widlem - CS:GO
Joseph Scott Yes iv'e seen it Bruce been carried by bats made me wanna cry a lot.
The problem is, it LOOKS like a suit, whereas in the original, it Robocop LOOKED like a robot with a human face. It's amazing that after 30 years, effects have gotten somehow less impressive.
ROBO POWER RANGER
All that effort and it still looked like a rubber suit. Rob Bottin's original design, although more uncomfortable and less technologically advanced, looked more like a machine, much to the credit of Peter Weller's commitment to 'selling' it in his movements.
So why can't the MCU make a real Iron Man suit instead of relying on wanky CG
Well, let me know you discover a way to make a practical believeable nano tech suit that covers your body out of nowhere without using "wanky CG"
I think they made an Iron Man suit for the first movie :0
Correct me if I'm wrong
They used real suits for EVERY movie. Mostly as a lighting reference, though.
Hello, those things are super hot and a pain to work in
That isn't Robocop. That is Roboflop.
Probably just me, but Robocop is easily my favorite of the unnecessary remarks lol
This one looks more badass than the original
kids version of 1987 Robocop.
Lesson - Don't change what is perfect... Basically don't ever change what makes robocop...robocop.
Nostalgia is a big factor.
Let's take an iconic figure and do our god damndest to ruin it.
- Modern Hollywood
+Robert Whitley RoboCop 2, 3, Prime Directives and the TV Shows have already done a perfect job of that.
But at least, even tho they weren't the best, they kept the originl concept of RoboCop and didn't come with this crap! They are still better then this RoboCop remake. So Robert is right, gj modern Hollywood.
after seeing this, that's actually not what happened here. that's just a lie that the "this movie ruined my childhood" crowd spread.
Robert Wheatley I agree. Well said.
Film still looks kinda cool
i totally enjoyed the redesign of the original silver suit.. wish they had stuck with it through the whole movie
Sad to see all this work was done and the remake was crap.
Yes, so much potential was right there for the picking, but they really dropped the ball in a pile of ...
Everybody knows its impossible to make a better movie like the Orginal. Verhovens Orginal is a masterpiece
"That's not robocop! they just used the name robocop and created a whole new image of him"
Have you seen the movie? Might want to stick around until the end.
I couldn't agree more. The new silver suit they created was actually a really cool update of the original. The all black suit was generic and sucky looking. However if there is a sequel 'groans' I think most of us will guess that the silver suit will make a more permanent return.
HyperSole
Exactly. Both colors appear in the movie, which I liked a lot BTW.
***** Well here's hoping there is no sequel. I couldn't bear another one. It was not quite Robocop 3 bad, but it sucked! Stick with the original kids!
I liked new RoboCop :) greetings from Poland :)
With all this effort into the suit and production, why can’t they do that with the story 🤷♂️
Loved the movie! Loved the suit! Love Legacy! Cannot wait to see more videos from other movies you guys worked on!
