CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Dr. Norton (Gary Oldman) shows RoboCop (Joel Kinnaman) the true state of his body after his accident.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A powerful multinational conglomerate attempts to bring robotic law enforcement to the United States by transforming a critically injured police officer into a cyborg cop in this remake of the subversive 1987 sci-fi classic. The year is 2028. For a long time, cutting-edge robotics company OmniCorp has been supplying the U.S. military with drones for use overseas, though their repeated attempts to bring the technology stateside has met with fierce resistance. When devoted family man and upstanding Detroit policeman Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) is grievously wounded in the line of duty, OmniCorp CEO Raymond Sellars (Michael Keaton) attempts to innovate by recruiting top scientist Dennett Norton (Gary Oldman) to transform Murphy into a prototype half-man/half-robot crime-fighter. When initial tests fail to provide the results OmniCorp had hoped for, Norton reprograms Robocop to operate strictly on software rather than human emotion. Later, Robocop finally hits the streets, and the citizens of the crime-ridden city welcome him with open arms. But as Murphy's emotions begin to interfere with his programming, he sets out to find the criminals who nearly killed him, and ensure that justice is served. Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, and Jackie Earle Haley co-star.

nope, right hand, it just looks like it's the left one on the mirror
If there was ONE thing this film did better than the original it is showing how much of Alex Murphy remains within his Robocop body.
We were supposed to get a scene similar in the original script for Robocop 3 by Frank Miller (that eventually became a comic called "The Last Stand") and showed his body exposed with bits of his bones and organs exposed underneath and I believe having a metal braced ribcage. It looked really horrific and probably would've been a sight to see in live action.
They didn’t really need to show it because it was told what was left of his body. Which it his face, what’s left of his brain and his torso with all his organs since he had his vest on and protected the vital organs in his chest. That’s why he needed to eat baby food to maintain his what was left. His legs and arms were the main thing that were robotic
@@JustinLodes True. But then again, what is it they say? "Show, don't tell".
The whole point of Robocop is that you don't know where man ends and machine begins.
@@brandonspain12345 yeah that sounds like quite the scene

I actually really liked some of the concepts of this film specially Murphy's relationship with his family and all the conflict of him being alive to be turned into corporate property als Kinnaman did pretty good. The biggest problem is it's third act and terrible villain. It was a great blueprint for a great sequel though.
@@LR-jb6zn idk, it's kinda uncomfortable to seeexposed lungs working
As much as I'm not a big fan of the new reversion I like this scene a little bit because it shows the absolute agony the person is in it may never really show it in the original outside of the sequel but with this you can feel Murphy's pain how he really just wants to pass on into the afterlife cause this is probably his worst nightmare brought to life.
That is what caused the prototypes in Robocop 2 to KILL THEMSELVES.

This is a horrifying scene “I’m in control? Then I want to die” is such a huge statement that’s filled with the most pure sense of horror and shock . I honestly would say the same thing, if I ever saw that I would either die of shock or beg for death, I would not be able to live like that
Naturally a human would also be dead at this point. I have watched the original RoboCop a few times, was always fascinated how the way they murdered him was so brutal and still made it into a movie. But I am no fan of the whole cyborg thing. And the ones that propagate becoming cyborgs know exactly what it does to the soul. It is always shown in movies, but in advertisement oriented products it is always presented as "evolution", "fun" and "pioneering". They have yet to show me any being of nature that evolved by becoming half a machine.
@@im3phirebird81 well in the original film he is actually dead. I guess the logic was that they received his brain or something but thats what made those movies good aside from the action. He is dead but the brain as Robocop doesnt remember anything really but slowly his memories do come back as opposed to here when he isnt dead
@@im3phirebird81 I mean just look at cyborg from teen titans he hates himself but he knows he has to accept it
@@Spongebrain97 I just watched the original today and its total bullshit. They blow off his hand, his arm, they shoot through his chest multiple times and in the end Cain shots him in the head. Now, granted it wasn't a perfect centered shot, but he still shots him in his head, than he dies when they try to save him. There is no way in hell you could have saved his brain, put in a robot and it would work. The most important organ of a human is the brain, if the brain dies because it gets a pistol shot there is no way to save the brain or the body. Now if they removed his brain while he was still alive than I would have let it pass but they should have removed the headshot scene too. Its even more dumb that guns in that movie usually tear you apart (even tho they are modern day guns but they are supposed to be more future ones) and when Murphy got shot in the head his brain and head didn't just explode. Also, how a bunch of criminals are winning against the police when the Gov and the OCP litterally has the tech to create cyborgs and laser cannons? The police is far more trained and well equipped than the criminals. I find intresting how Skynet is losing a war against the humans in the Terminator saga too, they litterally use a Time machine to kill younger versions of the future important soldier of the Human resistence when Skynet shouldn't have any problem wiping the humans out. Hell if they can create time machines, cyborgs and laser guns how the hell are they losing the war? Not to mention at the end of Terminator 3 Skynet also launches Atom bombs...
I would tell the Doc: Bro, I’m gonna need a grenade launcher arm and an American flag paint scheme.
What i always liked about the og robocop is how unlike this version, his face was basically stretched over a robot skull to represent that not even his own head was really his.
He was basically a robot wearing a mask of a human face rather than in this version where he is a human wearing the body of a robot.
In the original there's a brief scene with the scientist discussing the procedure they specifically got rid of everything but his brain. The one part in particular that stood outnis a scientist says "we managed to save his left hand." The same hand he keeps in this movie.

This movie had potential and this scene shows just how good it could have been. It wasn't a terrible movie, it was okay, but it could have been amazing.
yeah i liked this movie alot cos it expaned the robocop univerce cos they still had they had a replica robocop suit in a display cabinit at omnicorp sister company to omni consumer products and i like to think peter wellers robocop is still on ice some where till he is needed.

This movie is so underrated. I went in expecting a bad movie, but I was surprised with a fun, often well-acted film. And Gary Oldman. I mean, you can't go wrong with him.
I definitely think as its own standalone movie the Robocop reboot is actually good. But it seems worse because it is living up to the reputation of the original Robocop.
I don't think it's a cinematic masterpiece by any means, I think it's like... just good...
The fact they randomly left his one hand like that is freakin hilarious
Murphey: I don't wanna see myself like this again

@@lukechello4611 okay stop it right there!!
This is really good. The only thing I wish they did was synchronize the lung animation with Alex's speaking so that if he holds his breath, his lungs inflate and hold. If he exhales, then his lungs deflate. If he speaks, his lungs slowly deflate based on how much air is going out.
Isn’t that what happened? I thought it was a cool detail
That's literally what they're doing
Thats...what they did
Bruh it does. It even matches his heart rate
@@jon2813 not very well. Like, the amount of air going out (based on the lung contraction) does not correspond with the dialogue being spoken. It seems that his lungs are contracting a lot more than the speaking would suggest. A person can say very long sentences on a full lungful (pair) yet his short sentences are causing the full contraction of his lungs.
Also, he appears to be fully inhaling before each sentence. Most times, at rest, a person's lungs are sitting about partway inflated and during breathing, they only cycle between slightly elevated and relaxed levels of breathing. People don't fully inhale or fully exhale unless they are sighing or yawning or about to shout or are performing wim hof breathing exercises.
If you tried breathing the way that the CGI lungs were doing so, you would find yourself with slightly numb teeth. Also, consider that the total amount of organic matter in his body has been removed. He still has both fully functioning lungs capable of supplying enough oxygen for a fully grown man, now devoted to supplying that much oxygen for his remaining tissues. He would have to REDUCE the amount of idle breathing to avoid hyperventilation.
“Hold the crust” 🗣️🗣️
The hand is a great detail. It really shows how they did save as much as they could. If they just wanted the essential bits they would have gotten rid of the hand as its unnecessary to keep it. The pointless hand being there shows that they tried to save as much of him as possible.
nope, it was due to the politic issue in the movie where the human hand was pulling the trigger, not the "robot".
More likely they got rid of more of him that wasn’t essential to them other than a head and hand
Bob Morton: “Lose the arm”
Doctor: "you're in control"
RoboCop: "oh I am? Ok I want to die"
Doctor: "no"
Actually that is a big part of the original RoboCop. That he was Catholic and that is how he came to accept being this amount of human. Because to commit suicide meant he would damn himself and forfiet peace after death. That is why they can't make more, because a less "faithful" person would choose death (like in RoboCop 2).
And before anyone says something different - I am atheist. But they did try to make it realistic and explainable in the originals.
Lol
Lol
@@spaghetti1641 idk. Im atheist and id take a shot at living even like this. Secons chance and near immortality. Plus a chance to do good.
Would suck to have lost so much of my body, but its better than not living and the fact it comes with the ability to move freely and not be tied to one spot with the artificial body.
Windows 10 be like : No
why would he need two fully sized, fully operating lungs to only oxygenate his head and one hand
I mean it's his lungs though right? He probably would have wanted everything that was left. It's like his hand; they could have replaced that but they didn't.
Without lungs, how could he sing along to Bohemian Rhapsody while driving his RoboCar™?
Won’t that just make his hand and head more useful since their getting a lot more oxygen
I guess they tried to save everything they could
So he can still smoke that loud
he fell asleep at the sleepover first
Pov your the first person to fall asleep at a sleepover: 0:28
Interesting that they actually made him alive in this one. In the original Murphy is pretty much dead.
"Pretty much"?
The unrated clip of his death brought me here(what made THAT pop up, I have no idea😂). Murphy had his hand blown off, then his arm, then took about 40 shots to the torso, then a head shot which finally made him stop moving.
I havent seen the movie in decades but im pretty sure he was dead. If he wasn't, that's amazing(and ridiculous)
@@TheKingOfRuckus He flatlines on the table and they call it. The screen goes blank with Murphy's eyes then lights back up when he is Robocop.
@Daniel Appleton Also many parallels to Jesus. I'm not a religious guy by any means, but the symbolism is interesting.
@@faz6877 You mean many parallels to the hundreds of messiah rebirth legends throughout mankind's history.
@@LetsNeverPlayAgain In the interviews I've read Verhoeven specifically says Robocop is an "American Jesus", and goes on to site everything from resurrection to walking on water.
Of course you can make parallels to other religious figures. But when the director specifically references "American" Jesus and walking on water I think that's pretty direct.
Look I'm not a religious guy, I'm just telling you what Paul has said. So are you saying Verhoeven misspoke about his inspiration / intentions for making the film?
If he falls and tries to catch himself with that fleshy hand its gonna hurt.

I like to think that the "human" hand is actually cybernetic with synthetic skin and synthetic nerves and whatnot.
