after seeing this song done live a few times, i can say pretty confidently that this is probably one of the hardest songs for cedric to do live. he has a lot of trouble hitting the chorus and has to switch to head voice often, but he still owns it. cedric has done nothing but improve since i started listening to this band around '03-'04, and you see him push himself more and more. i think that anyone who questions that dude's talent needs to drop an album hitting the notes he hits or sit down.
There is also something weirdly satisfying when he gets all out of tune, they are all jamming like possessed souls and dont care about hitting wrong notes. Love that! These songs are so damned hard to play amd sing.
This is so killer! I'm not a die-hard fan of Mars Volta, but this performance is absolutely amazing. And this song is absolutely amazing. And the vocals kick major major MAJOR ass. And of course Omar is the brains, and plays with perfection and precision, flawlessly. Pridgen is the drummer from hell with his amazing licks. I guess I'm sounding pretty much like a Mars Volta fan after all. LOL! I totally dig this song, I admit that!
I'm listening to this again and with all odd time-signatures and change-ups, it's really amazing that these guys can pull something like this off live. This band must practice 12 hours a day to be this tight. Listen to the way the backing music is so oddly timed, yet the vocal melodies lay right on top and bring everything together so that it appears to make "perfect sense" time-wise. That's really hard to do, and it's amazing! My hat's off to this band!
These Guys are by far one of the smartest men ive ever seen in music, Their music is just something i cant REALLY get into, not that it sucks, it just isnt my style, My Brother loves them, I Cant truly get into their style but i give them 100% respect for their unique style and their ability to make genius music
he said "from" or "for" Mastodon? I know he performed vocals for them on one track of Blood Mountain...knowing him it was his usual sense of humor saying "from".
That is actually the only album I do have by them, I love it, and I do hear volta a little in 21st century schizoid man, if there's anything else you have to recommend I'd love to hear it
tsvorvitaliy - You think about music in the right way!!!!! THANK YOU! The world needs more people like you! I like this song though, but thats just opinion..
a lot of people dont actually like the volta. i didnt like them too much when i first heard them. Then i found out how they made most of their songs and the meaning behind them and i respected them more. The volta are still an acquired taste. and i like the singer he reminds me of Robert Plant. These guys work they're asses off just like any other band so you can do nothing but respect that.
yeeee, I actually performed take the veil for my college solo performance - but I cut out the crazy middle bit and just did a massive 4 minute drum solo because I'm pretty sure they improvised the middle bit and it would have taken me like 3 years to learn it :P great album, best experience with them- I listened to Amputechture from start to finish, great album! x
Cedric uses mainly BOSS effects I think, he uses chorus, flanger, and phaser pedals, he also has a Moogerfooger I think. Not sure about the microphone, maybe you should check on The Comatorium.
@forthefool where did you read about the meanings and how they make there songs? i just recently heard them from and friend, and they remind me so much of zep (which i love) i am really interested in how they do their work!
The fact that these guys came so close to Zeppelin’s style and familiarised even Rage against the Machine is strangely surreal! Just an incredible shell of talent. 🍭🤘 Edit- I come back here after an year and salute these guys. Few of their songs are distinctively the best musical pieces ever written. And no, they are seriously 10x better than Zep and Rage in a few of their songs with that unique sonic touch and the iconic soundscapes. ❤️
People have been bitching about pop waiting for the next zeppelin, the next pink floyd, the next great rock act and indeed it came but omar rodriguez lopez went mostly unnoticed by the world.
Nice question, bro. I think A Young Person's Guide to King Crimson is like an abstract. I found this seminal:In the Court of the Crimson King. I salute you.
Best fucking band i ever heard. I remember the first time i heard De-loused back in 03 i was in a musical daze for 1 hour and rthe album was done i couldn't believe what i heard something new and original and very exciting to listen to i never heard anything like it.
I think that Cedric's mic isn't going direct to the PA, maybe it's pre-mixed with effects by the band on stage, before it goes to the PA, coz his voice always sound the same. Does somebody know about it, please? I'd like to know.
@canthinkverywell 1:29 - you can see Brent Hinds for a moment, left of Ikey (from a viewer's perspective). 1:57 - Brann Dailor is to the right of Cedric, right from our perspective.
@trenken yeah ive noticed his voice naturally isn't as high as it was back then, probably because of age. He should just keep up and stay in his range. He has the skill to do so
it's crazy how much cedric's voice has changes since at the drive-in
Mastodon and The Mars Volta? Man, I would have loved to have been at that show.
+Charlotte Crosby I saw them both and Kanivool and Muse at the same show!!!
+Max DC Lucky!
This Is my band
This Is my life
This Is rock'n'roll
Dudes in Mastodon must love this jam.
I love how brent and Brann are just chillen in the backround watching them. So awesome i wish their was some good mastodon videos of this festival.

No one can touch Cedric
i like how mastodon and volta are friends, on blood mountain cedric does vocals for one of the last songs

3:50 "Find me the head!!"
Single finest moment of any of Cedric's performances of this track. Brutal.
....and perhaps Omar's most embarrassing 😂

i love thomas pridgen, he was just the best drummer for mars volta,
I guess not,..😊
The Mars Volta, gigantes y únicos. Gracias por elevar mas el rock en estos 23 años que van del nuevo siglo!
this song goes out to mastodon !! hell yeah!!
Finally a high quality video of them playing live. It seems like all the other ones are just random people in the crowds
How cute, Omar's then girlfriend Ximena Sariñana at 1:29
he said "from" or "for" Mastodon? I know he performed vocals for them on one track of Blood Mountain...knowing him it was his usual sense of humor saying "from".
Shout out to Mastodon? Nice! It's cool to see that the best progressive bands of this generation get along.
I know this monsters since 2004 and I cannot stop listen to them!!!!!!!!!!!!
@LeePnC86
Its really hard live, the vocals are extremely high pitched so I understand him having some trouble.
Although i'm a huge zeppelin fan...TMV are in other league, NOT better or worse, but in other league, a great league..damm it i prefer TMV over LZ LOL
I like Thomas. Especially in Aberinkula and Wax Simulacra.
I take The Mars Volta to listen to DMT.
"This next song is for Mastodon!"fucking great !Mastodon are my favourite band and TMV fucking rocks probably one of the best bands of our decade!
The most dynamic band in music today...I love The Volta!
That is actually the only album I do have by them, I love it, and I do hear volta a little in 21st century schizoid man, if there's anything else you have to recommend I'd love to hear it
I've just listened to a song called "Low road" by blue pills and I can't stop thinking that it sounds so familiar to this one
tsvorvitaliy - You think about music in the right way!!!!! THANK YOU! The world needs more people like you! I like this song though, but thats just opinion..
this tune at leeds on saturday was so good! they came in with this from so et lumiere and inertiatic Esp then into la via la viaquez. amazing!

evans pietro he was probably trying 2 show d horse...! 😂
having explored wearing pants that tight myself, they just come unzipped on their own. and it usually happens at the worst time
Se le va a volar el pajarito!
This song really kicks ass, i love it
so beautiful...
Thank you so much for the upload!
sounds great!!
Cedric uses mainly BOSS effects I think, he uses chorus, flanger, and phaser pedals, he also has a Moogerfooger I think. Not sure about the microphone, maybe you should check on The Comatorium.
Wow much better perfomance than older ones
Great attitude by all members
definitely need some coffee before this song.
@forthefool where did you read about the meanings and how they make there songs? i just recently heard them from and friend, and they remind me so much of zep (which i love) i am really interested in how they do their work!
I love how mastadon's on the side diggin it

Cant wait for the big day out in adelaide next year!!! get to see these guys live
they were in SA,TX on the '19th'
Best fucking band i ever heard. I remember the first time i heard De-loused back in 03 i was in a musical daze for 1 hour and rthe album was done i couldn't believe what i heard something new and original and very exciting to listen to i never heard anything like it.
its a toss up from amputechture and bedlam! the first few seconds of aberinkula "have you seen the living"
soooo epic!!!
Wow, this band is extremely tight and focused. These guys definitely know how to play.
you can hear cedric's singing voice changed from this concert on something happened around 2009
no just happens while on tour. look up malkin jewel live and click the first link. he slays it.
I think that Cedric's mic isn't going direct to the PA, maybe it's pre-mixed with effects by the band on stage, before it goes to the PA, coz his voice always sound the same. Does somebody know about it, please? I'd like to know.
Oh yea baby!!! They're coming to NYC come this October.
amazing!!!
king crimson are in another level today. Mars volta will be in another level in the future
is incredible how cedric has improved life singing...
@canthinkverywell
1:29 - you can see Brent Hinds for a moment, left of Ikey (from a viewer's perspective).
1:57 - Brann Dailor is to the right of Cedric, right from our perspective.
amazing!! damn
love the volta
Two of my favorite bands like eachother's music, bad ass. Also you can see Brent Hinds backstage at multiple parts in the video. Fuck yeah Mastodon!
awesome!
Really? I love em. Whats your deal with em?
i knew about them but never got into them.
this song was the defining moment of my decision
that shit was outstanding
love the mastodon plug at the start
he' s got a wah-wah, flanger effect on his mic as well as reverb and chorus, but the pitch, thats all cedric.
I loved all the pushing. It was my first concert and it was an awesome first experience. Where were u in the place?? Front, middle or back??
3:44 le omar zipper deloused from the pantatorium
fuckin awesome I saw volta last september and imma see mastodon this november both of the greatest bands of our time.
True, but this is the best I've ever heard them, though. They are really maturing their sound.
Perrisisisimo!!!!
@Mushroomellow Cotopaxi??? The "(PRO)" threw me off. Lol
@TheFragile89 that's the funniest thing I have read all day. gold. where do you do stand up?
1:28 Ximena Sariñana

Grande Mars Volta wn!!! lo mejor!
@canthinkverywell yup! its mastodon and cedric does the backing vocals for the song *siberian divide* you should check it out sometime =)
RIP Ikey :(
nice - that drummer though...holy crap he's got power goin on there.
Mars Volta's Dance Rules!!!!
Is that Ximena Sariñana behind Ikey at 1:30?

omar is really getting fired up in this performance.....
@TroyRiot314 i know they like them alot but i thought they were gonna do a song that has some sort of similarity to mastodon
@WoWplyr19 Naw I think they're friends. Cedric and Ikey both have parts on Blood Mountain
Great Song 5 stars-..
The bass player is the best musician in this band
first time ive heard this band, im already jizzing
Juan is rocking this. What a fucking beast.
I like the fact that in Volta comments, people are always commenting about the music instead of other irrelevant crap like this comment.
brann dailor likes it!
Juan is so fucking beast. Been learning Day Of The Baphomets all day, this is next on the list.
@trenken yeah ive noticed his voice naturally isn't as high as it was back then, probably because of age. He should just keep up and stay in his range. He has the skill to do so
the whole concert
