Still too much weirdness. That infotainment screen looks like an afterthought, and not part of the dash. If there are no HVAC or basic ICE physical controls, thats a dealbreaker.
Still waiting for a straight answer on why I can't just turn up at a charge point and buy £20 worth of electricity, and pay in cash, rather than faff about with accounts and apps.

Had the chance to drive both recently. And I found out that the two cars are worlds apart. The Tesla is cheaper but can't hold a candle to the BMW in terms of quality, handling or styling. BMW the best choice on EV market.

So happy that I live in California where there are over 6,100 DC fast chargers that include 282 Tesla superchargers. In the US there's a federal tax rebate of $7500 (not available for Tesla) and another $5250 in local and county incentives which makes the purchase of the BMW cheaper. So no big edge for Tesla in either regard. Needless to say, I will receive the delivery of my i4 edrive40 in two weeks. Love hearing perspectives from across the pond.

Currently have a 2 year old BMW i3 so have been looking to upgrade (+ range and + space) so to speak to either the Tesla M3 or the BMW i4 40 M Sport.
Drove both cars last week and signed up for the i4 today, I understand the supercharger network is a real bonus when driving electric but the quality of the BMW was leagues ahead.
With the frequent price reductions Tesla are making I was concerned about residual values in the future which also played into my long term thinking.

We bought the model 3 in November 2021. Sold it in Jan 2022 as the paint quality is unacceptable and Tesla refused to fix it. Wish we had gone for the I4. I don't see how anyone can recommend a model 3, is build quality not a thing?
Imagine reviewing any car on the planet, and coming to the conclusion that a tesla is better
Call me when your rear lights are full of water
or when your power steering fails
or when your paint-job isn't even
or when you have rust problems (especially Model 3).
or when your windows don't close
or when your doors open by themselves
or when your lights don't work properly
or when your trunk lid is full of water
or when your front seat feels loose
or when your car won't start because it's cold
...but by all means, keep recommending that to your viewers.

Don't like the driver's instrument binnacle, as it has big gaps each end and from above! This is where all the dust or dirt will get behind and be horrible to clean, especially if you like to keep your car clean yourself and take pride of your expensive purchase. Plus better having heating / air-conditioning switches than searching through screen menu's especially whilst driving!

Comparison against the other electric cars is interesting as well.
Some people find the minimalism of the Tesla annoying and the car itself very ugly.
I would have an i4 over a Tesla.
Hatchback style boot is a giant win, easily compensating for the lack of a 'froot'.
Here the Tesla network is actually already open for other brands.
But bmw really needs to put the climate controls back in buttons...

Well, I am not very tall, and I bumped my knees every time I tried to get into the back, knee room was comparable to Toyota Yaris and also my knees were too high, quite uncomfortable sitting position. I canceled my order placed in december, this being one of the reasons.

    • @generalwolff1502
      @generalwolff1502 2 ปีที่แล้ว

If you aren't tall, the front seat will be further ahead as well, leaving plenty of space for your legs in the back seat. If you are shorter, you will probably put your front seat higher up to see better, meaning the back seat travellers will get their feet under the front seats sitting even more comfortable. Rest assure, that if you are ok with the 3- or 4-series back seats, you will be perfectly fine in the i4 as well. However, tall(!) people won't sit that comfortable in the back of either BMW i4 or Tesla Mod 3. But, how often is that relevant, and for how long distances, or time...? I am waiting for mine, a eDrive40, hopefully arriving this summer.

The best you can do for the environment is to keep driving your current car as long as possible, and switch to a bicycle when in town. EV manufacturing is actually not good at all for the environment. Of course, if you need to buy a new car better an electric than an ICE.

I just ordered the i4 and I will save about $30.000 over 5 yeas compared to my current diesel vehicle. This depends on many factors but try to make that calculation for yourself. In my case both the lease and running are cost clearly lower. I also save $500 a year on a city parking for example, no highway tax etc…no government subsidy towards the car

    • @VickiStokes
      @VickiStokes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

In the US there are incentives that are income-based to allow lower-income people to avoid EVs. In the California Bay Area, there is a $9500 incentive. There are other non-income based like the $7500 federal tax rebate. Also, other local non-income-based incentives add up to thousands more. I am eligible for the federal tax rebate and about $5250 more in incentives. Eligibility for one does not preclude the others. So, a low-income individual could discount $10K or more of the price and take the $7500 tax rebate to either make the car payments or refinance the car less the $7500.

Here in New Zealand the BMW is sold through a usual importer/dealership arrangement and is a lot more expensive than a Model 3 (which is sold direct). i4 eDrive 40 is $109,900. Base Model 3 is $72,400 and qualifies for an $8625 rebate bringing it down to $63,775 (the BMW does not qualify because it is over $80,000).
Therefore, the big price gap means you are effectively paying for exclusivity and a load of knobs and buttons.
I enjoy the handling of my Model 3 Performance but I also enjoy the minimalist interior, the ergonomics of it, the space, and the way it doesn’t try to look like an expensive or high-performance car. It’s simple and works really well. The traditional brands don’t seem to hold much advantage any more. Time will tell

Lol what a load of crap! Firstly, Tesla has MILLIONS of Tesla's on the road, Kia and EVERY OTHER EV MAKER, has hundreds, thousands, so how on earth can that be accurate 🤣
Typical Tesla jealousy using lies. Which car is faster, which car runs longer per charge, which car can do over air updates, which car has the most advanced Ai server farm with millions of Tesla's feeding it data over many years that Tesla has had cars on the road. Talk to any tech nut on the planet, Tesla is so far ahead, is the only that produces their own batteries, making them cheaper for what you get. By the time the others reach this level, Tesla will be so far ahead it will be laughable. Millions of cars on the road, not hundreds or thousands lol
Research before making ridiculous statements with no backing! Tesla has no restrictions on giving patents or details of their operation, you can research it in full, and you will hopefully learn a thing or 2. But can you provide me any data on BMW'S tech....nope, why would they shoot them selves in the foot and show how far behind they are lol. What better tech does Tesla have? The BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Audi, Chevy, and Cadillac, to name a few all have the same tech. Maybe not the fart mode and other shenanigans but it has drive (autopilot) and parking assistance that actually works (BMW has reverse assistance), drive recorder, and climate control. Most Teslas don't have the FSP beta that they have been promised for the past how many years? 5 or more? If all Tesla has is tech then they are truly losing the game because that's EASY to do. The tech is software that anyone can add. Tesla doesn't have a market on software developers. Check out how well BMW's HUD works. Oh, I forgot Tesla doesn't offer HUD. Sorry but let's just be honest. Tesla should be afraid. The only edge they have is fast losing ground. I appreciate their lead on moving EVs to where they are now. However, they should get out of the way if they aren't willing to continue innovating, improving the quality of their cars, or updating their design which hasn't changed in the 10 years they've been around.
