In Kenya 🇰🇪 thats the typa beat that's played by the isukuti drummers called the Isukha Community in Western side of Kenya and I'm like woah This the kind of beat that my grand pa Adriano used to play way first on his drums though played strictly by hands no base drums that came later so this feels so right at home with me so proud of my ancient old typa beat that's trending in the USA 🇺🇸 now in this age. You can search "isukuti western Kenya 🇰🇪 " here on TH-cam just to confirm. Enjoy
every time I see one of his videos it just solidifies how he's my favorite drummer. Hard Hitting. Cool Grooves. And his way of explaining things and talking to people is just so down to earth.
I didn't hear anything in there that would require a double pedal. For me it starts to get difficult if I have to sustain more than about 4 or 5 quick hits in a row on a single, but anything short of that should be AOK with a single. Look up Jerry Was a Racecar Driver by Primus. Learn to play all those quick double and triple hits with a single pedal and you'll be well on your way.
Now this is a drummer that makes sense! Throw away all the tricks and the double bass drums and get down to basics with some real talent and effort! There are very few who will put this effort into playing their instrument and getting the most out of it they can! Great job, Thomas! This came up as a recommended video for me and I'm sooooooo glad it did! :)
Kids, take notice. His batter side head is tuned tighter than most so the rebound of his beater has more rebound than if he tuned it finger tight. Also a 14 or 16 in deep kick will allow this technique easilier then a deeper kick drum.
This is how I do Bonham triplets. It's balancing your foot feel with your thigh power. I usually tighten my pedal as much as it goes so the up bounce helps push my foot back up so you can bounce with almost a power twitch technique.
This guy is amazing and without knowing anything about him really I can tell u the way he's able to play those licks that fast with a single pedal. He has put in the practice time. It's not really about the spring tension or the type of pedal, it's all about the time you're willing to put into practicing. I'm not trying to be insulting, but if you're asking what spring tension or type of pedal, you're probably not at his level yet and need to continue practicing.
Now , what if you have a weird muscle issue with your main bass drum foot? mine is very inconsistent, whilst my left slams out faster beats way faster than my right. My right just stiffins up when i try to play doubles or triples at 160 bpm
Great drummer but not a great guy. Met him once at Guitar Center and he was very clear in letting you know that he was a very good drummer and he made that point several times during his 20 minutes in Guitar Center. But then again how many great bands has he played in and stayed in?
I un followed his instagram a while ago when I saw he had Free Mason crap all over his wall. That is one step away from worshiping Lucifer at the HIGH ranks of the Masonry. Also dude is obsessed with weed, all I saw on his posts... He has a solid ass foot but I could totally see him having an attitude problem. My drum teacher Chad Szeliga is the complete opposite, he REALLY appreciates his fans and will sign whatever and take pics. Back when I saw him backstage with Breaking Benjamin, he was the only one that was there that gave a shit.
I've always been an opponent to taking the shoe off! I personally gotta keep my shoes on (and I still successfully do doubles and triples with my right foot)
You forgot to mention, the inimitable, John Bonham or Nicko McBrain, both masters of the bass pedal. Both of whom were killing the bass pedal groove when you were shitting rusks.
The technique is: just do it but faster
The Mars Volta definitely had some of the most amazing drummers, absolute beasts; every single one of them.

this man just played double bass on a single pedal.absolute beast
Not really

The secrets out:
Watching Maury Povich whilst drinking koolaid is the key to foot speed
Lmao
Super-duper small hihat
Steve Jordan
Who Cares small?! It’s like 16’! Maybe bigger, looks like a ping ride not a high hat
Pridgen is known for combining 18” crash cymbals for hats.
1:25 "we'll start the metronome right here"
He literally becomes a metronome
Thomas and Gil, Dillinger and Mars Volta !!! love you guys !
Amazing single pedal players;
Thomas Pridgen
John Bonhan
Nicko mc brian
Larnell Lewis
Stanley Bicknell
Jhonny Madar(he is an alien)
Zach Hill
Johnny madar underrepresented
Dude Johnny Madar is sooo good IMO because he trains for ambidextrous playing.
Jojo mayer too
Jimmy Chamberlin

Some of us need 2 Bass drums. What we achieve with 2 cant be done with one.
@@Adam-Bomber amen.
I think you may not be human! That was incredible man
Kids, take notice. His batter side head is tuned tighter than most so the rebound of his beater has more rebound than if he tuned it finger tight. Also a 14 or 16 in deep kick will allow this technique easilier then a deeper kick drum.
Also, leave the big, fat, fuzzy beater at home.
Screw that, finger tight just remember to move the knee.

Ouroborous by The Mars Volta for the opening beat. Killer song.
Snare sounds amazing 🔥
Genial buenísima forma de practicar y dejar bien veloz el pedal simple Gracias Thomas pridgen buenísimo baterista 🥁🥁🥁🥁
Hell yeah to muscling-it-out
Any thoughts on the tension of his pedal spring? Low, medium or very tight?
Thomas Is SUPER AMAZING!!!! 👌👌😉🇮🇹
One of my fav drummers. Real drummer
Any advice on how to set the pedal to facilitate thus technique? (Sorry if it's a noob question)
Thank you so much! Helps a lot!!!!!!
dude you are the best this worked out for me

Great job!!! What tension do you set your pedal at???
I definitely need more practice!
I love how he cut to the chase 😂😂😂
3:24 Baroness - Isak
Call it the Baroness beat. They use it in a couple songs lol.
these its a really old video but its so good!!!!
I am none the wiser on how to doubles after watching that
Those hihats
What is it you think: 16" or 18" ?
@@ronaldent5781 Steve Jordan uses 17"
These are 19" he talked about that hi-hat combo in another video!
I think it was two 19 crashes but it could be 18 but I'm almost sure it was 19
🙏🏽
Sounds like the breakdown in Periphery’s “Prayer Position”
Only a monster on drums or a metal drummer have that incredible felling.
He sets his drums exactly like Dennis Chambers back in the 80s. Amazing exercise tho!
Too cool
I have a similar problem to Thomas, at lower tempos I struggle to find the pocket. Good thing he plays fast and I don't play for a living.
Now , what if you have a weird muscle issue with your main bass drum foot? mine is very inconsistent, whilst my left slams out faster beats way faster than my right. My right just stiffins up when i try to play doubles or triples at 160 bpm
SniperSam I Think I have that too, just struggle with it, try different ways. spend a shitload of time
i wonder how loose his pedal tension is?
did he play on a roadrunner record the collaboration back in 2000's he's got some mean blast Beats
i think that was the old drummer for suffocation
Stip Onbass Mike Smith
Nah you're thinking about Mike Smith that used to play in Suffocation!
dood his hi hats.. their huge
#thomaspridgen !!!cool drummer🔥💯🔥💯🔥
this is hilarious. so good.
great exercise to do for 10 minutes each
Ah yes my favourite technique: Muscling it out 😆
at least he's super excited to be there .
using my boy's THUMP DRUMS!
rad foot speed
good to see you're now wearing a shirt \m/,
If I have to orange juice and Maury Povich to get that right foot, I'll do it.
Good piston! :))
The honorable Thomas Pridgen
"That technique is called muscling it out". Thomas Pridgen just told you to get off TH-cam, stop being a baby, and work your legs until it sticks.
Wow wtf. I never would have said that intro was single pedal if i had only heard the audio
I can’t play at my apartment so I hope I can ay this to my bass drum pad. It just isn’t the same feel
Remo silent heads ...check them out...
Si!
Oh shit... Are those them fiberglass surfboard drums that Noone can get except Pridgen and Hill?
Ian Muessig you mean Thump Drums...?
Splint city
Tight drumhead and good quality pedal.the only way to do this.on the other hand,John bonham has been doing it like 40 years ago
rubbish, once you have the motion for doubles down you can do it any pedal and surface
Bonham used a Ludwig Speed King.
see me no more not rubbish, but yeah
"That was really fast." UNDERSTATED
Why did have to start the video like that 😱😱😱😱
Maury is the key!
Is it me or is that kit just fucking really huge?
That is one massive ass hi-hat
FOOT FAST AS EVER
Great drummer but not a great guy. Met him once at Guitar Center and he was very clear in letting you know that he was a very good drummer and he made that point several times during his 20 minutes in Guitar Center. But then again how many great bands has he played in and stayed in?
Nathan Walsh well considering he’s a session drummer...
Nathan Walsh i’ve heard that too. Awesome drummer but he’s a bit of a prick.
I un followed his instagram a while ago when I saw he had Free Mason crap all over his wall. That is one step away from worshiping Lucifer at the HIGH ranks of the Masonry. Yep. Not humble in the slightest. Has a nasty habit of running his mouth off on social media too. Not very professional.
I've always been an opponent to taking the shoe off! I personally gotta keep my shoes on (and I still successfully do doubles and triples with my right foot)
Orange drink
use double pedals it sounds way better
I love thomas, this dude has to get a double kick and apply it to his left leg. He'll be george kolias with his feet in no time. (no time = 8 years)
Double pedal metal drummers be like.....?????
Most metal drummers can do this with one foot. But good luck getting a 16th of 32 note roll with one foot
Cool beat and cool technique but bass drum sounds awful
That's a personal opinion.
nah, that's a fact
Wow, Chief Keef learned to speak more clearly and play the drums.
You forgot to mention, the inimitable, John Bonham or Nicko McBrain, both masters of the bass pedal. Both of whom were killing the bass pedal groove when you were shitting rusks.
Check out the size of his............hi hattz
足映せよw
カメラの意味がないですね(笑)また、使用しているペダルがdw9000で上位機種でありかなり踏み心地がいいため、あまり参考にならないかと。。。踏み心地の悪いまたは普通のペダルでも実演してもらいたいです!!
Lol
Now apply this to the left foot and you get what you call a metal drummer. Left foot is gay from playing the hi hat too long.
i love thomas on The Mars Volta, but Jojo Mayer's Technique is way better than this. The Constant Release is the best if you want single pedal speed.
Nando Peyton But does it have this much power? I’m very curious.
