  • First Thursdays is an event that happens in Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa every first Thursday of each month. Around 15 art galleries in the city open their doors for free! to lovers of art and digital media; whilst the cities' nightlife scene livens up the walking event with tantalising food, music & club discounts. Smart casual with a good neat pair of walking shoes are in order for the event. Arrive early and you might get treated to a glass or 2 or wine or something on the rocks!
We dined tonight at the Afrolife Petro's Kitchen in Long Street! On the menu was chicken feet, braai (bbq South African style!), pap & chakala (cornmeal and tomato relish (its unlike other dishes so dont let the simplification fool you!)) and couple ciders.
A meal like this in Long Street will cost you around ZAR/ R280 (including taxes and tip) or USD/ $17 for 2 people. Long Street (the party street!) is a great alternative for cheaper/ delicious/ good wholesome dining than its Bree Street counter part a few blocks away. On the street you'll find an eclectic mix of Indian, South African, Mexican, Irish, Ethiopian, Nigerian, Korean, Japanese (you name it) foods you'll never be bored of.
If you are into the tapas setting however, Bree Street is a must for an upper market vibe, more bubbly and artful- decadent meals!
    Happy outing!
