  • The Acts of Saint Thomas, the apostle of Jesus Christ. Part 1. Deeds (Acts) 1 - 8. Narrated by Joe D. Translated by Bernhard Pick in 1909. This is Librivox recording and is in public domain - librivox.org/. Acts of Thomas is a series of episodic Acts (Latin passio) that occurred during the evangelistic mission of Judas Thomas (Judas the Twin) to India. It ends with his martyrdom: he dies pierced with spears, having earned the ire of the monarch Misdaeus (Vasudeva I) because of his conversion of Misdaeus' wives and a relative, Charisius. He was imprisoned while converting Indian followers won through the performing of miracles.
Saint Thomas is often referred to by his name Judas (his full name is Thomas Judas Didymus), since both Thomas and Didymus just mean twin. Scholars detect from the Greek that its original was written in Syriac (Aramaic), which places the Acts of Thomas in Edessa.
    1. The First Act, when he went into India with Abbanes the merchant.
    2. The Second Act: concerning his coming unto the king Gundaphorus.
    3. Act the Third: concerning the servent
4.The Fourth Act: concerning the colt
    5. The Fifth Act: concerning the devil that took up his abode in the woman
    6. The Sixth Act: of the youth that murdered the Woman.
    7. The Seventh Act: of the Captain.
    8. The Eighth Act: of the wild asses.

@Based Patriarch If you trace the etymology of _ambrosia_ it is from the Greek _ambrotos_ from _a_ "not" + _mbrotos_ "mortal": therefore this is an appropriate term for the Eternal God and His Son Jesus Christ.

    • @GizmoFromPizmo
      @GizmoFromPizmo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Eucharist is a modern term. In the bible, it's called:
      - The Lord's Supper - 1 Cor. 11:20
      - Communion - 1 Cor. 10:26
      - Lord's Table - 1 Cor. 10:21
But it's never called "Eucharist". I think that was a European term coined as the laity was being replaced by the clergy shortly before it became the Roman Religion. I think the term "Eucharist" dates back as far as the middle to late second century - well after apostolic times.

It is interesting that the Greek word for the grave (Hades) is always interpreted as "hell". This has been a strong delusion over the centuries and persists to this day. Jesus didn't go to hell for three days, He was in the grave for three days. But when the unlearned see this word in Greek, they always interpret it as the Lake of Fire, prepared for the devil and his angels. Interesting.

    • @jeremiahcastro9700
      @jeremiahcastro9700 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Well what many people don't actually understand about the word _hell_ is that it is from the Old Norse _hel_ literally "concealed place" which is connected to the Old Norse _hellir_ "cave, cavern". So it is an appropriate translation for the Greek _hades_ from _a_ "not" + _idein_ "to see" literally "to not see".
Sadly I was a part of those who were falsely led to believe that *hell = lake of fire* when this clearly contradicts Scripture. In _Revelation_ we are told that at the Final Judgement that death and hell are thrown into the lake of fire.
What do we make of the story of the rich man and Lazarus? The rich man said he was in torment and wanted someone to place a drop of water on his tongue. Many are falsely told that the rich man was already burning in fire, but this is a gross misunderstanding of the biblical cosmology. For we are told in the Bible that the heavens are above; below this is the earth; below the earth are the seas; and below the earth is _sheol_ the Hebrew for "abode of the dead". Therefore this the place closest to the lake of fire.

Teehee. I’ve always loved Thomas feeling a bit of kinship with him. It took me a lot to overcome doubt. Anyway, I’m the same way always claiming I will do whatever God wants then God says okay, do this. And I say, oh no, not that, anything but that! Yet...I remember Jonah in the belly of the fish after trying to escape Nineveh and obey. I remember all my own spankings for disobedience and shiver. I like how Jesus reminded Thomas we are truly slaves of Christ while in this world. Thy will be done, not mine! I often laugh and laugh at myself over and over. Every single time I hit an obedience test it feels like the end of the world, the one that will have giants swooping down to eat me because this is the test I can’t obey....oh how dramatic I am every time. Tears and tantrums and begging. But I do it. And it’s never as bad as I imagine. God always drags me along. We get through it together. Then I look back and laugh at my own antics. Like a toddler. I often tell God I think I need a new brain to go with my new heart.

Who can give salvation but YHWH.
Did Joshua deliver Israel? Was it David? How about Elijah?
Who is our Savior, but Him who can save?
He is the same since before we were formed. He will be the same when we return to the dirt from whence we came. He does not author confusion and Christ is His Anointed son.
Christ has said that when you see Him "NOT BORN OF WOMAN"...worship.. "He is your Father"
Best I can remember, wise men, shepherds, barn animals, an Archangel Jabbar-el, and a newlywed couple, Yousef and, oh yeah, A MOTHER, a manger and a child!!!!
Worship the creation if you want to remain in blinders. Or remove that restraint, look around you and see your brothers and sisters who are, as Christ, the living sons and daughters of the one true and Almighty God, who is OUR FATHER!
Christ name means My God is salvation/deliverance!
      אלהי‎י.שׁ.ע
Now, that is a rough spelling of Eloi yshw.
      My God is the Salvation.
It has to be remembered that Christ asks that we call upon him to be saved in the distress. But if we call the plumber to our home to change the fuse panel, our home may catch fire and our plumber friend may be shocked. If we call the electrician to fix our water line, our home may flood, and our friend Sparky may drown.
Why then did I call upon the tribute of the Greek lightning god Zeus or even the warrior who walked into the promised land with his nation?
I did this because I was taught that his name was Jesus or his name was Joshua.
Meanwhile, it took only to meet my Father to see how misdirected I was, following that wide path, a sheep with no shepherd. But, as any prodigal son can, I asked Father if I could come home and hopefully others are as well.
May He be praised and exalted above all forever!
      PS
Know yourself, and then all others can know you.

A man like this Apostle lived among us. He used to spend time praying and fasting, giving millions of dollars to the poor and preaching the word of God, healing the sick and driving out devils without asking anything in return. but people did not believe him or in his God rather they said he is a sorcerer and a magician and an evil man. The very same things described in this story. Could it be that this man was like Apostle Thomas? And we didn't know? Now the BBC AFRICA made a documentary on him painting him dark and removing all the good works he did. Wow this indeed was a true Apostle of God.
He meet exactly the description of Thomas and he did not have much education.but Christians today are blind to see that The Lord Jesus had sent his Apostle to the world yet the world rejected him just like they rejected Christ.

Just within 5 minutes i see serious problems:
Jesus never referred to Himself as son of Joseph. Thomas wasn't a carpenter, as this text alleges Jesus to have called Thomas a "carpenter", Thomas was a tax collector. This text does not sound like the language of early church, nor the 4 Gospels. Sounds suspicious. Also, Jesus cannot contradict Himself. He will not sell anyone, for He bought us and He alone is our Master. Honestly, this sounds like the style of story telling that is very common in my Aramaic culture. It contains some facts married with tons of embellishments from my ancestral story tellers. They do the same thing today.
Thomas disobeyed Christ and did not want to go to India? And Jesus had to go get an Indian to convince Thomas by selling Thomas to this indian??? Doctrinally, this is suspect as well. Filled with the Holy Spirit, the Apostles would never openly disobey the ONE Who empowered them with His Spirit. None of them acted this way even when faced with death.

Then Jesus when on pretending to be Judas Thomas and spread the word of Jesus??? Also, Thomas means TWIN so Judas Thomas was Jesus' Twin.

@ Adile... Seems Thomas traveled to India a few times & when returning he went to see John to discuss things & learn more to better understand. Jesus sent Thomas to India before Jesus was baptised & it was probably John the Baptist, their cousin, that Judah/Judas Thomas Didymus went to when returned from some travels,1st before seeing others. Visions of Jesus & apparition changing to Judas Thomas Didymus may have happened. Yet without John the Baptist to explain what Jesus was teaching to him, he was showing up late at times & doubting; think from this he wouldn't be person to have understanding & strength to go to cross instead.

@cameronmatlock5210 Do you think we were “saved” because he was prosecuted and died? Not because of what he taught and promulgated?
The famous phrase “Forgive them, Father, they do not know what they do” would make sense if Judas were falsely crucified instead of Jesus. Which wouldn’t have been any better if it were Jesus on the cross- because I don’t believe he died for our sins, he died because of our ignorance. Most people of his time would have seen him as blaspheming god because he said he was the son of God and taught that what he could do, everyone around him could too. I think most people miss the point of his “way.”
Imagine being the king and clergyman of that time. He’s a man saying that the people don’t need them- or to pay them money for God’s salvation, that everyone had direct access to God, and that we were all children of God. It’s a completely radical way of thinking at the time, and coupled with the fear of loss of power and money, is why he was targeted and ultimately “died.”

@@sharonmelsby7679 Exactly, Thomas Judas suddenly, in the book of Thomas, has the understanding of Jesus and is speaking as Jesus would. I don’t think he needed extra strength to endure the torture. He knew the “value” of Jesus, and that alone may have motivated him, but in all honesty, he probably didn’t have a choice. Once he was barring the cross and being prosecuted, there was no way out.

The author of acts was Luke supposedly. Luke was gentile converted by Paul/Saul, and followed Paul, both of whom never even met Jesus. And Paul, also neve having met Jesus, was in fact one of the people who persecuted and imprisoned the believers in Jesus before his so called conversion. Luke also supposedly wrote the gospel of Luke, again, never having even met or seen Jesus. Luke was a gentile born in Turkey who was a doctor. All this is in your Bible. I'm not making it up. Also supposedly written some 70-100 years after the death of Jesus. Stop blindly trusting the Bible, and learn how that Bible actually got into your hands, and by whom, and when. You have been born with the gift of reasoning, use it. Stop debating things based on faith that don't require faith. Winged talking snakes? Men being swollowed by whales and surviving days in the bellies of whales? Talking donkeys? If you heard either of those stories on current news today, would you believe them? What if the pastor of your local church told the congregation that his talking cat spoke to him and told him what to preach to you that day? Would you accept it as God works in mysterious ways? If Jesus said anything to us that means anything at all, He said wake up and smell the coffee. If one thinks that the biggest hoax in history will be some antichrist or whatever, then one is wrong. Who do you think you are dealing with here? You are dealing with an entity we call the devil, not just some typical fallen angel of whom would vastly outwit you, but THE MOST POWERFUL of all the angels that was in heaven and is now on earth. If you think you are somehow smarter than this, then keep your head buried in the proverbial sand, and go about your life as you were. Because the entire biblical story is in fact the biggest switcheroo hoax that ever existed. What loving God would do the things the bible depicts God as doing? Let's see. Murder, genocide, infanticide, rape, slavery, war, slaughter, jealous, vengeance, global floods, fire and brimstone, killing your wife, kids, family, picks favorites, takes sides, and a lake of fire prepared for those who do not follow him or believe in him as the only true God. If you weren't indoctrinated, wouldn't you say that was how a demon would behave? Nevermind the bible or gnostic writings, how would you honestly judge such a character if you had no preconceived notions of things like oh God works in mysterious ways, or oh it was God's will, and oh who are we to question God's plans? You have all thought it. But you have all dismissed such actions of this loving God and his horrific acts, and in fact you felt you had sinned for even thinking it. That is scope of the deception of this demon. And debating arguing over and killing each other over is right, is perfectly keeping us from the truth. Perhaps the roles in the biblical so called fall of mankind are switched. Perhaps the true one God is not the one depicted in the stories but is in fact the false god we say the serpent was. Look, it won't make you a heretic to use your birth and true God given logic and reasoning to question things and find answers. That's indoctrination talking. There is a true God, the God that Jesus told us about. Jesus said if you see me you have seen the Father because we are one. Did Jesus act at all like the god of the old testament? Or did Jesus act completely opposite? Use your true God given mind and wake up. Jesus was not from the god of the Bible He was from the true God and father, whom Jesus acted and spoke like. And Jesus was called a heretic too. Question. Am I a heretic also?

If you meet Jesus and learn from Him you soon realize all your dreams, ideas, thoughts are trash in comparison to the dreams and ideas and thoughts of Jesus when He sets the course of your life. You learn trust as you obey scary hard things. And then you wish you could climb into a harness and hand over the leash to Him so that you wouldn’t take a single step off the path laid out for you. I am His slave. And if He sold me I’d go with a smile. Because everything He does is good, with good reason, and He does it all perfectly.

Jesus said he was here to enforce all 613 of gods laws. Jesus believed in slavery like his dad. His dad had is chosen people slaughter entire towns but spare little girls to be enslaved and screwed by god’s chosen people the rest of their lives. So that makes Jesus and his dad co-owners of a sex slave operation. I think his dad was a silent partner while Jesus wore a huge, wide brimmed hat like today’s pimps while he dealt with pumping out little girls to god’s chosen people. That’s what the Bible says. I wonder why I never heard that in Sunday school. I might have stayed awake if they told the truth about Jesus being a pimp.

@@JeweLinHisHans Really? Jesus said “Slaves obey your masters, even the cruel ones!” So Jesus was pro slavery and the beating of slaves. If Jesus had a shred of morality or decency he would have told slaves to escape. Abd he woukd have announced that slavery is wrong and a sin. But Jesus said nothing moral. He supported slavery and the abuse of the vulnerable so that makes him a sociopath.

Not a protestant writing for sure, but it was written long time ago in Koine Greek or Syriac by the Church of the East, there isn't any manuscript written in Latin that has survived. So this story is quite exclusive, and remember that the ancient christian writers had a voluminous number of accounts about the Apostles that existed before the muslims arrived in the middle east, there is much more to explore than what you have learned in your Church.

Any gentile who is saved by faith through Jesus sits at the feet of all the giants of faith, the Hebrews of the Bible, just like that girl taking what falls from their table. It’s interesting that when satan fell he wasn’t satisfied with his place in heaven but wanted more. I find it interesting because God has taught me to be happy in any place where ever He puts me. Knowing our place is acknowledging God who put us there. Seems kind of an important quality to have...
