To be more specific, a Top Professional League in South Africa was formed in 1970. The league was remodelled in 1996, which is the PSL era. In overall, Sundowns has 17 league titles, 14 in PSL era Chiefs has 13 league titles, 4 in PSL era Pirates has 9 league titles, 4 in PSL era I also agree with you on the purchasing of teams licences. I think it is a bad system as it ruins the heritage of South African football.
As a south african football fan and academy owner i thank u so much for such a beautiful video n insight on our football. Really good content. God bless u
You are absolutely right about the selling of licences, club that have existed for decades with their own culture and large fanbases are simply thrown away, e.g bloemfontein celtic, morokas swallows
and it's annoying grootman. i grew up supporting Mpumalanga Black Aces because of my family and we were big fans of the club until it just randomly went to Cape Town. I never watched the PSL ever again 😢
@@thato596 selling the club is not the problem, the problem is changing the club completely e.g. name, location. It would be like Manchester United being moved to London and being called London reds simply they were broke
Epic as always!!! after Greece, next you should do Gibraltar, New Zealand and Zimbabwe (because this channel's inspiration recently released it's 193rd and final episode)
Great video as always! The buying of licenses/league statuses has always been a thing SA fans have been aware of but it happening so much in recent years angers me. It has killed clubs with a lot of history and passionate fanbases and I do think has at least partly contributed to the decline in attendances. Wits University a club with a 100 year history had their status sold to owners of a 1st division team just 3 years after winning the league. The team that bought them rebranded, moved to a completely different part of the country, then their status was bought by ANOTHER first division club who rebranded them again. They got relegated a few years later but decided to buy the premier league status of another historically big team in Moroka Swallows. They now play in a completely different city to the previous versions of the club. It sucks that with the exception of the big 3 clubs, anyone could easily sell their status and have their history erased just like that. Most of the current clubs in the top two divisions have existed under their current names for under a decade. I know that it allows financially struggling owners to get some relief, but it's hard to get attached to clubs sometimes. Fortunately I'm an Orlando Pirates supporter and I don't have to worry about anything happening to them😅
Forgot about Bloemfontein Celtic had probably the biggest fanbase outside the big 3 and still got sold. At least that joke team Royal AM are struggling now
@@gordonenenmoh7679 El Salvador, here having a second division is just dumb filler because any team can buy the category if they want to so the competition really do not exist and many teams with a lot of history have gone to dissapear and not caring for their tradition just the money and the fake status of being at the top division of the country.
Amazing video and great research, we believe we have world class leagues and stadia. Thanks 4 promoting these and ppl we now understand why we hosted FIFA WC 2010

but it's a good way of saving teams from totally going bankrupt and it offers new teams and talent in the psl...it's a 50/50 situation
But it helps when a team has no money to continue and the best way is to sell then going bankrupt
@@theoddman9753 yes i do understand that but is it worth it to change a teams culture & back story. imagine that happening to Chiefs or Pirates
