Thanks for making this video man! I'm a Real Cartagena supporter because that's the City where my mom was born (but her family is from Medellin) so I grew up loving soccer, loving this team that for most of my life played in the second division. Unfortunately the soccer team is unpopular because baseball is more popular in some parts of Colombia than soccer. Even my mom enjoys baseball more than soccer (Let's Go Mets) It was always a bit unclear to me as well how teams get promoted and relegated, so thanks for explaining it in the language I'm most comfortable speaking!
It's annoying. Just do an aggregate table for both halves of the season and bottom 2 at the end should go down. And exclude playoff results in the event a playoff team has a huge fall off in the 2nd half. My friend is a Deportivo Cali fan and recently they finished dead last but they weren't relegated due to the relegation system used there.
Wow, I never expected a summary like this, it's well integrated and almost all relevant data is placed into it. Thank you for checking our Football pyramid and always welcome to visit our wonderful country, I'm 100% sure you're gonna like it. 🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴
I’ve actually been to Bogota! It was a great trip and a beautiful country. I didn’t see a game, but I’d like to go back and see one! Where should I go?
@@FootyLeaguesAroundtheWorld It's a must a Atlético Nacional vs Millonarios whether in Medellín or Bogotá, the Paisa's derby between Nacional vs DIM or something more atypical but atractive may be Once Caldas (the team I'm a fan) vs Deportivo Pereira that takes place in Manizales or Pereira. Colombian regional derbies are experienced a different way. Regards, mate :D
relegation is what make the league competitive, the chance that you can lose sponsors, money and fans if you go down, make everyone try their best all the time. in the US and Mexico you guys dont have that and almost encourage the bad teams to do their worst so they can have better draft place, that ruins competivity and also your football level will always be mediocre.
@@juanferro9797 you're talking to me like I'm against relegation. Relegation in Colombia makes no sense. I'm for relegation and promotion but the way Colombia does it is stupid as fuck and rewards a bad season just for the longevity of a team. In 2022 Deportivo Cali and Cortulua finished at the bottom 2 of the league but Deportivo Cali was not relegated because inthe relegation table they finished 10th. So even though they played terribly, they were allowed to stay in the league.
@@juanferro9797 look at last season, Envigado and Jaguares finished 19th and 20th. And yet Union Magdalena (finished 17th) and Atletico Huila (finished 18th) were relegated. Don't talk to me about relegation, especially about a league I've always watched, when you know nothing about it. Relegation in Colombia makes no sense and is stupid.
Nice video man, personally I don't follow the Colombian league that much in recent years I have always been obsessed with Serie A and AC Milan, but my apathy towards Colombian football comes from many reasons like the lack of new and better stadiums and if a new stadium is built like Deportivo Cali's stadium then they never actually finish it, lack of attractive players as it used to be in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's, the format of the tournament with Apertura y Finalization is not my cup of tea and I think it diminishes the achievement of being the champion, also it's unfair to the best team in the tournament when they can lose the tittle to the team in 8th place. Also something that has shown the level inside the country has gone downhill is that we are not competitive in La Libertadores, before teams like America de Cali was always competing for the tittle even if they never won it (one of those times they actually lost it in the last minutes of a game against Penarol) also Deportivo Cali used to be a force to recon in the Libertadores, nowadays since Nacional dominated in 2016 we have not had a single side able to compete against Brazilian or Argentinian clubs, in fact we do not compete even against clubs from countries with worse football than us.
Only recently found your channel, and I love it. If I had a request it would be Wales. The odd one out in the UK, it has it own football leagues, but clubs like Swansea, Wrexham, Cardiff etc don't play in it anymore. I wouldn't like the regulation system used here, seems it would only prevent bigger clubs from falling down, But i haven't seen it play out enough in person to judge fully.
1:55 The split at this stage isn’t random. Each of the first two from the todos a todos round will be places as leaders of groups A and B respectively. Then, places 3 and 4 are drawn into each group. Same for 5 and 6. And again for 7 and 8.
Bro awesome Explanation of how this league works, Primera A. Glad someone broke it down, I have always had trouble explaining this format. Is there any way they can adopt this into MLS? Each conference gets two groups, only play a total of 3 games rather than 6 like here, and have top seeded teams in each group play 3 games at home, while last placed teams play all away games, 2nd and 3rd seeded teams get both home games against lower seeds and away games against higher seeds. Just a thought, would love this in MLS, this makes regular Season is important. Top two come out the group to play single elimination game against runner up from other group and then final is two legged, thoughts
You should do a video on the World's Smallest League...The Isles of Scilly off Cornwall in S.W. England... Consists of 2 teams who play each other between 14.and 20 times and they also have cup competitions
It’s hilarious how many requests I’ve received about this league. I had never even heard about it before people started requesting it. I guess I’ll have to do it!
The aggregate table relegation system was famously first introduced to keep the big clubs from going down. It’s failed like in Argentina when River Plate got relegated in 2011 and it’s about to fail again as Deportivo Cali, a big and historic team is about to go down
The agregate/relegation system is the reason why south american football is so competitive. If your team performed horribly during the season, why should it continue to play in the first division? This competitiveness makes the teams really care about improving, as well as the players, and for this reason there are many South American players in the major European and world leagues.
América De Cali and Atletico Nacional are the only 2 giant clubs of Colombia, Atletico Nacional VS América De Cali is the Superclasico/Clasico Of Colombia between rhetorical 2 biggest and most popular clubs and 2 historics in footballs history.
Colombian here. You did a fantastic job explaining the league over here. I don't follow it anymore as it's too mediocre outside of 2-4 teams every other year.
In 1952 Millionaires has win the first intercontinental of all the history vs real Madrid, and in 1953 Millionaires has been the second Champion of the first World cup of clubs in the world called pequeña copa mundo, this make the Millionaires the only colombian team that been the Best team of all the world for two times! Millionaires has win too the super campeones cup by 2 times that was the cup before libertadores and was the reason the team play first intercontinental and pequeña copa mundo, it has been part of the history of how this cups was invented
Relegation models are the essence of being competitive, countries that lack this aspect leave their competition in the background because they do not have the challenge of being relegated due to lack of quality and results. Likewise, there is a character in the divisions and structures of professional and amateur clubs: the tryout processes bring many options but the competition to have the list of players is very difficult to achieve, it is really very rare that someone without merits and skills makes it (although it often happens because of connections or money is not the rule). Best!
The multi year aggregate table for relegation is rubbish. It promotes mediocrity and should be dismantled but that won't be the case because there are way too many people making money out of it. They won't stop milking that cow even if it means clubs won't be competitive in continental competitions
