Brilliantly said. I've always had that mentality of 'starting on monday' but that's an excuse. Start now and just do something. Doing something regardless of how good it is, is still an improvement that not doing something.

I'm one of the "...chronic, ferocious analyzers" that Jocko is referring too. It really is a torment. The amount of time I have spent in my life over analyzing a simple task or an upcoming event to the point that I mentally exhaust myself, has resulted in a lot of regrets. Despite that however, watching these videos from Jocko and from that other great thinker Dr Jordan Peterson has started to have a real positive effect on my life.

Its like you read my thoughts and stole them. Everything was analyzed for me; career choice (is there a demand? whats the pay? do I need experience? Oh god, what if I don't like it?) going out with friends (should I prepare topics to talk about? Make sure not to be moody. Have fun and make sure they see you having fun or they won't invite again). Its on and on and on.

I'm also an analytical overthinker but I learned a few years ago this had to change. My colleagues and I took a personality test that was conducted during an advocacy workshop that helped learn about ourselves and I was the ONLY person in a room of almost 30 people that was evaluated as analytical. During the workshop that day I learned that sometimes actions have to be taken despite all plans not being figured out. From that day it helped me to understand people who rush through decisions - not that they always made the right choice or achieved all outcomes desired but that they didn't want to spend more time delving into thinking while things are changing around them all the time.

    Wait broke the wagon!
The phrase “Wait broke the wagon” is a mantra for those of us who may have knowingly or unknowingly adopted the attitude of David Glasgow Farragut, a flag officer of the United States Navy during the American Civil War. He was the first rear admiral, vice admiral, and admiral in the United States Navy. He is remembered for his order at the Battle of Mobile Bay usually paraphrased as “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead” in U.S. Navy tradition.

Having heard your talks about not listening to the 'voice' in your head or how to overcome your ego and how to discipline yourself.. I realised this man really knows what he's talking about so I tried to find who the speaker was and hence I found your channel.I do wonder how you learnt the art of overcoming the ego but without a doubt it is the same teachings of Sufism.I'm sure if you have reached a certain stage of overcoming your ego you are able to do many miraculous things that will amaze people.
Coming from a person who would love to implement the practice of overcoming the ego but struggles very much. Many thanks.

Contingency planing to the point logic box flow charting creates opportunities out of problems and processes as a consequence of the ferocious analysis and over planning as a result in itself over time... but it is more a result of experience from getting after it... than a original version of a planned plan or a designed contingency... for example information, location, party, intention and actual affiliation are each given a variable indicator... then as actions, confirmed, vetted, consequences and results are tallied... score cards are developed... and before you know it... you know whats up before it happens... allowing you to leap forward and proactive rather than reactive... you know them better than they know themselves. You can dismantle their plans with simple actions controlling the tempo and initiative. This is only possible for experienced professionals who keep their notes and after action assessments... with a strong degree of honesty and critical thinking. I don’t worry about the enemy tanks because I work against their fuel resupply... i stay out of their range when possible and when I appear to them it’s to move them were I want them... so that I can take out their fuel trucks... while letting them think they are in control. The trucks are light easy targets... the tanks are essentially useless without fuel. Eliminate the weak links and isolate the strongest. Then the command and control must reveal itself in order in regards to not losing the tanks.
When it’s pouring rain the deer move to ridge lines... and mountain lions follow the deer... wheres the nearest drinking water after the storm... where the brush is thickest or slope is steepest the mountain lion is resting... hunting mountain lions and ambushing armored battalions is the same math problem. The labels on the variables change. Math, logic and statistics is scary but only if you get out there and get after it... knowledge is power.

usually I see the opposite where people don't plan at all where they spend maybe 15 minutes talking about something without writing anything down for a six-month or one-year project. Failing to plan is planning to fail.

My manager is really annoying about the perfection. My job is distribution and she constantly is pissed off because something may not go her way. We are at 98 or 99% perfection. We are extremely close and she fails to realize that nothing will be perfect. It’s like you can never be happy because she is always hounding on everybody.
