Momma might not be there next time to save her hussy daughter from whoring around with married men. Back 70 years ago this was scary stuff, scenes like this are commonplace nowadays. Cops don't even have time to investigate crimes like this these days. Even if he were convicted....maybe 2 years probation nowadays.
I can tell by the comments that people aren’t old enough to have watched this show when it was new, so they don’t know that the stories in this series usually have an unexpected surprise twist at the end. That means that the mother’s version of what the bad guy said - which she and the audience think will save her daughter - may very well produce the opposite outcome by mistake!
The mother's version will eliminate the bad guy's alibi, inculpate him for his wife's murder with the police and court, and indeed save her daughter ... this time.
@@SassyGurl_1 Not every episode of the Hitchcock TV show had a surprise ending, but most of them did. So you never could be sure what the final scene or revelation could be.
I think any caring mother would do that, period! Evil or not.. safe is Much better than sorry even if it meant she was going to carry that sin for the rest of her life. She lied for a good cause.
It was no "sin" for the mother to refuse to let the bad guy implicate her daughter in corroborating his wouldbe biggest lie, a perjury to cover up his murder of his wife.
I had a meeting with my mom and her sister -- they came to my house and they talked about everything but what I was telling them and the temptation I was facing.. my husband had broken off with me 3 months before anything was even considered.. I begged my husband to reconnect and for us to work it out-- he was obsessed with other women and had numerous online affairs -- and work affairs. I'm sure he was telling them the same lies we women believe when we are being chased .. .. anyway.. after it happens my husband starts buying nice jewelry and a bible that was as big as a cement brick .. the blame was put on me .. and, I took responsibility for my actions -- and, had a complete nervous breakdown..that married man is NOT yours -- leave him be. Edit: I also begged my husband to come back and work it out -- I flat out told him about how I was being chased like doe and I'd never had anyone put that kind of energy into wanting to hook up -- also saying things in front of the whole office that were lies to back up his story.. just to use me and have another nick in his belt .. John said he didn't care to do what I wanted (John/husband) -- so I called his bluff. It was never the same after that and I wouldn't let him touch me and became like a nun to pay for sins .
At first I found it confusing because the wife and the mom looked like the same person. Something casting departments should avoid, unless it's part of the plot.
