Thank you for posting this excellent film. The storyline is so convincing and I never thought a bigamist could be such a sympathetic character.

😏….subliminal sexism & misogyny . He’s only sympathetic bc movie paints his wife as the one at fault . Insidious way to keep women in their lane & blame them for their men’s weak, bad behaviour….a message as old as Adam & Eve .

They’re usually not sympathetic, they are busy looking for lonely women with money. My own brother was a bigamist, among other things. He enjoyed arranging fake weddings between him and the women. When the money ran out he was gone, never to be seen again.

I love how on the bus tour showing the movie stars’ homes, they show Edmund Gwen’s home. He’s also acting in the movie, playing Mr. Jordan.

Yes, I picked up on that. I wonder if they were the real homes of those actors.

I can only imagine the paralyzing anxiety this man lived as he continued to cover up every lie ...yes he sinned and was scared to death to face the consequences of his adultery but he had to face it

The tobacco companies apparently, very well supported 1940s-50-60 film production .

When you try to burn the candle at both ends everyone gets burned..... But imo, wife #1 should have paid more attention to the marriage than to the business. I used to work in a Holiday Inn lounge. Many traveling sales men met up with women and men..... I don't think their wives had a clue. I asked a guy about why they do that. He said because they are on the road so much, hotels/ motels become their home away from home. I just think it was because they wanted to and could get away with it. And they were liquored up. Ida Lupino was a great actress.

You’re blaming it on her? He chose to cheat on wife number one. And then chose to marry number two while still being married to number one. I feel sorry for the women and the baby.

@@Cobbmtngirl I didn't say his cheating was her fault. But she may have seen the signs if she put the marriage ahead of business.

Unbelievable that in 2025 we still lay most of the blame on women when men are the ones responsible for their own bad behaviour . These old movies are sexist , but they disguise the misogyny by making the man the sentimental victim . Subtle way to guilt trip & control women into staying in their lane
