Mickey Mouse and Epic, you never thought you'd hear those words put together but the team at Junction Point certainly pulled it off. Take Mickey through a warped and twisted version of the Magic Kingdom where your choices can change your old friends lives. Take the paintbrush and change the world for the better or worst in this timeless platformer.
Pros: The choices in this game can be solved in multiple ways which result in lots of replayablility, Great art direction and animation, Lots of memorable locations based directly off of Disneyland, Gameplay is evenly balanced between platforming combat and choice based missions, Good sense of charm, Half of the soundtrack is very well made.
Cons: The other half of the soundtrack, The platforming isn't all that challenging or creative, Cannot skip 2D sidescrolling sections, The camera can be handled but it's not the best.
Personal Faults: Yes I know I nitpick the ever loving crap out of this game but that's just to warn new players about how the game is structured.
My grandpa (who doesn't game) played this whole game through purely on the basis of nostalgia. It's a great memory I have with him right before he died :'(
My condolences
I want the Shadowblot as a secret boss in KH3 and the Wasteland as a (secret) world to explore in that game too :p
I wonder if we'll get a review of the sequel.
It's because you might not have fully painted it before stepping on it. :)
no annoying/forced enthusiasm...
back when cj was good
markasscop Arev That's your opinion (and back then that was more like repressing that energy) but try to not to sound so jerkish when you write things like that.
at the very least,i finally got your attention
....senpai
but yeah,i get that you can be pretty excited for these kinds of things, but the boarder-line fangasms just get kind of off putting for me
but like you said, its just my opinion, you can do your videos however you see fit, just wanted to give my two cents...for the 6th tme
Woah, I played through the whole game and I never found out the lock on!
Actually, I think Banjo Kazooie did have invincibilinty frames. Banjo just didn't flash like other games when you have invincibility frames. Also in Tooie you wer knocked a good amound of distance from an enemy when hit sorta making it's own invincibility frames. idk i could be wrong its been a while since I played BK and BT
The way you do that puzzle in Tortooga is use the clock to slow down time, then hit all the gears so it shows the sword. If you run out of clocks, (this actually works i did this before) run around the room hitting the gears as fast as you can and eventually it will work. :)
I just stumbled upon your videos and I really like them. I'm curious as to if you've played Epic Mickey 2 yet. I'd like to hear your thoughts on that if you have. I'm going to continue watching your videos now, good work. ^^
Nope, I use to play at ToonTown at Disneyland.
Take what you said about kingdom hearts, play kingdom hearts 3D, and tell me you don't feel the same way.
Your best review ever.
I think this was Disney's best attempt to bring something a bit dark and edgy, and also reintroducing their character Oswald after decades it was taken from Disney's hnds by an uncalled lawsuit which resulted in Mickey being created as a replacement. This game took my childhood hostage, just this way. And the intro song is GORGEOUS.
@DayLaMike Ah you must be in the Small World/ Gremlin Village area. That place is very confusing your first time but believe it or not it's actually smaller than it looks. A lot of the game is actually. Yeah I wanted to put that stuff in somewhere but discovered that it wouldn't fit in anywhere or contradict what I would say... so yeah a blooper reel was called for since I didn't want that stuff to go to waste.
LOL, I figured out Tortuga by dumb luck too!!!!!
I do but I heard that the story wasn't that good, the influential decisions you made in the first one don't show up a lot, the AI controller computer is dumb, and the platforming is even worse.
@SuperGarfieldJordan1 Yeah, it's not the darkest game I've played but I knew that just from the description of the game that came out a year before it was released.
@sonicchic1 Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner! :) Yes that's where I got it from and congrats on being the first to get it. I was wondering if anyone would get it.
@cjjjmj This video was uploaded on Push-Start months ago, before that was even brought to anyone's attention, and yes that part was in the video as well.
@REDGUY2764 Because this one took almost 6 months to be just right. At least I was able to work on other videos during that time.
@KingTorterraXIV The place is called Wasteland, I rememberd hearing it in the narration of StarFox64 so why not? :)
@REDGUY2764 The script was the worst part. Too many times I found myself rewriting sections and parts again and again.
@sonictom95 If you want replay go with Goldeneye, if you want an AWESOME game with low replay value get DKCR.
@SwedishKuriboh Afraid not, I did that for this one because there was no room in the review to bring those up.
Well, he was Disney's first character. Not really his first mascot as he didn't have his own company yet.
@WiiDude83Rebirth Well I can't take credit for that, I got that from Freakazoid. I'll send you a video.
I did talk about the camera angles you know? And how you can have three different ways to control it.
This review was hilarious
@ballsbaby123 What's the connection? Wouldn't it make more sense to say that compared to DKCR?
@Nova20cp I figured it out, it's where the flowers for the quest are and under the flower bed.
@meismeplusme Yeah it's about the same, only it's more than I've ever spent in a Zelda game.
im glad im the only one who still ikes this game :(
apple gamer ... just wait till the final level
Haha you really think you are? I got this game 3 years ago and I still like it
I still like it. 🤷♂️
@Recommendation765 I wanted to put that in but I didn't have the footage of it. :(
@ballsbaby123 Not exactly but that is probably the closest you can compare it too.
I can't tell if you're trolling or if you didn't understand what I said.
@iFukuyama I see you had different expectations for this game, I didn't.
@MistressZelda Well that wasn't on the push-start video, just this one.
@MistressZelda You mean the one I used at the end of the video? Yup. :)
@Nova20cp That's now in the annotations, thanks for pointing that out.
Oh cj. If u only knew...
This game is so nostalgic to me as a kid, this was my first wii game and this game is responsible for getting me into animation, this game deserbes a remastered version.
The quote might convince me to do that cuz the Sega CD version made use of the Mickeys you save toward the end of the game while they didn't do that for some reason for the other ones. I don't know, I still have fond memories of my Genesis version. Also not gonna lie that the ending sucked. All that work just for the game to congratulate me in quotation.
I need this game!! Not only cus it's mickey, but i would be the only one my age ,in this smal town who would have played it! Yeah i'm the only childish one my age here. kinda boring accually. But Thanks for another awsome video! i ALWAYS watch them twice! Have a good life till next time!
For those I spoiled to: PLEASE DON"T LET WHAT I SAY CONVINCE YOU NOT TO PLAY THE GAME! IT'S STILL AN AWESOME MICKEY MOUSE GAME TO TRY AND FIND! At least in my opinion. I'm also not denying that I knew the Mad Doctor from that game. ^^;
@cjszero01 really? I consider that to be the easiest part.
Whatever, it pays off for you, because I'm not kidding when I say that if you posted these more often, you'd become a youtube partner like wiiviewr
Looks like a lot of fun... though I haven't been at a single Disney theme park in my life, so I may miss some of the references! ^^
Loved the extras at the end there, too... may we expect more of those? =P
Sounds good and I hope they make it for the Wii U.
@TehChibiMage Same here but 2 is better than none.
Also, the Gremlins DID exist, they are almost as old as Mickey. They had their own little books and animations I think, what never took off was the film based on them. From what I've seen, it seems like Gus was the main character from the Gremlins book, and I think they were pilots or something like that. There's a reference to the creator of the Gremlins in Epic Mickey 2, and that reference is the Dahl Engineering Corridors (or D.E.C.) as the guy's name was Roald Dahl.
I finished the sequel just a few days ago,and while I plan not to spoil you the game, I have to get a few things out of the way.The sequel is shorter than the original, the story is nowhere near as good as the first one, and you can using the projectors most of the time, like you wanted to.It's not a bad game by any means, but it can get a bit annoying because of how stupid the AI Oswald can be. If you gave EM1 a 5/5, I think you would give the sequel a 3.5/5, based on what i saw in this review.
I mainly found this game hard. My guess is because is because of those camera views and because last time I was rushing through the game and that's what I prefer to do. I may have to take my time when I play it next time. I too had trouble with the columns puzzle. One more thing-for me if there are too many enemies, I just bonk them into a thinner pool if there's one near by. Beetleworx are a different story.
The cloumns in tortuga must be activated after using the watch sketch. You can thank me by reviewing Epic mickey 2 :)
Awesome review! It made me go finally try this game out. I enjoyed this game a lot, thanks for the review. :3
By the way, did you happen to catch a classic Legend of Zelda line uttered by a pirate in Ventureland who gives you the stopwatch sketches? =D Nice reference, game designers!!
Great review dude! Also, let me be the first to guess that the quote was inspired by the ending quote of Mickey Mania: "If you enjoy this game, buy it twice!"
It makes me want to wait until the price drops.
no he's mickey's older brother Oswald was created by walt disney himself when he was working for universal. when universal didnt want any more Oswald cartoons walt mooved on and made Micky mouse so in other words Oswald is micky mouse's older brother -.-
No game is glitchfree and perfect(the original Tomb Raider for Ps1 being a VERY good example), and now I shall take advantage of the "free rentals for college students" at a local movie/game rental place to get my hands on this game.
@cjszero01 Ah, okay! That's a relief. I thought I was going crazy there for a second. XD I'll rewatch the review again to see if I missed anything else. =D
11:08 use the clock sketches to make time slower, while the time is slow, hit all of the switches all the way up and all the colums will stay still
I honestly have no plans of getting it.
Thank Markus for fixing the projectors.
Thank me for sabotaging the projectors in the seconded game.
(Sorry Markus)
@cjszero01 It wasn't fun. I wanted to draw and erase stuff. Not simply enable and disable small spots. I wanted good platforming, not-- not that.
So it's normal to be bored at the beginning?
Guess I should have played it more. But playing it just made me wanna go and play Kingdom Hearts.
The opening line about Kingdom Hearts.....yeeeaaahh....which one is getting a 3 on its title?
@Megan64fan And where would they fit?
Tortooga quest- you must spin all the gears before one of them fall. I suggest using a watch sketch.
I heard this version of Mickey is possible for SSB4, I hope it happens, as long as we don't get anymore cartoon characters
Not only are we geting a sequel to this game with a co-op feature we are geting another epic mickey game for the 3DS
@GizmoFan1 actully there making power of illusion for the 3ds and the power of 2 for the wii.
''this shouldnt be called epic mickey tis should be called EPIC WIN!!'XDDD nice one man i love your reviews
Hi there
Hehehe, great review there bud ^^ May get the game when I see it cheap
Euan
I felt the need to point out that if my experiences with the game are the standard fare, I think you made a mistake at 14:55. The game DOESN'T let you keep the upgrades you got from the first run. In fact, that is PRECISELY why I didn't bother with a second playthrough. There is NO reason why you can't hold onto your extra health pips and paint upgrades in a New Game +. Why even CALL it New Game + without the extra rewards? If anything about the game truly infuriated me, it was that.
I honestly don't see the appeal. Then again, I feel as though the fact that I have never been to Disney Land and the fact that I have seen maybe two things with Mickey in them takes heavily from the game. So it is understandable why others might like it. I am, however, very interested in Kingdom Hearts. I've played 358/2 and plan on buying 1&2 before long (the reason I haven't yet is because I need to buy a PS2 first).
You gave this game WAY higher praises than I would have.
The camera was atrocious. I actually quit playing the game before the end because the camera angle would sometimes be so hard to control and confusing that it gave me a nasty headache, something that virtually never happens playing any other game. And no voice work at all besides random, annoying, guttural grunts? Really Disney? Too many aspects here were lazily done.
I digress. I enjoy watching your reviews, regardless.
That's the firt review which I can't agree. It has some brutal technical problems (glitches, camera...), the graphic was no good and finally the game was BORING! I mean, you have to do the same things everytime! I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted. To me, it's a 3/5. It has some nice moments, but it has also a lot of problems (I respect your opinion, however!)
@cjszero01 OK. and your wrong about mickey junk mountain having no basketball court because there is a type of b-ball court at the gate to Oswald's sanctum. just go left and head for the wall with a yellow mickey poster( i think it's a poster) and you will go through it and find a b-ball court. as to what you find there i will not say.
lucky for you there will be a sequel, Epic Mickey 2 for the Wii U is coming out soon
Dude, this is REALLY, REALLY good. Seriously, why don't you make these more often?!
Dear Enix MAKE AN EPIC MICKEY WORLD INN KINGDOM HEARTS! AND WHILE YOUR AT IT MAKE KINGDOM HEARTS 3!
1000 E-Tickets? Hmm I'd probably somewhat agree that's pretty high but I'm more of a Zelda person, so would you say an E-ticket is about the value of a rupee or is it rarer? Yeah I know it's probably a hard comparison but I'm just wondering how much effort it would take to get 1000 of them is all
Loved the bloopers at the end dude! I watch this review all the time mainly because of them! Lol
The characters I want most in the third one are: Panchito Pistoles, Brom Bones, Huntsman from Snow White, Willie the Giant, The Lost Boys, Honest John & Gideon, the Penguins from Mary Poppins, Mortimer Mouse, Ronno and Sir Kay / Sir Ector
I felt like the games pacing was terrible always felt like someone was holding your hand through it and there were so many glitches I had to restart the system 3 times cause i got stuck in a place I couldnt get out but it was still overall a good game
No, not every game without voice acting is "crap" (with games like those in the Zelda series being stand-outs), but this is a game that would have certainly benefited from it. Not only that, the grunts used in place of words were poorly done.
The animations are cool.. I may get a buttload of dislikes for this, or possible trolling, but when I see the animations, especially where Oswald is getting all up in Mickey's face, I think of a Mickey Anime. "Wtf moment" right? I thought the very same. v.v
@iFukuyama How do you figure?
let me guess on the little green guys you found out on cartoon network. the show mad right?
You gotta play Cars 2 because the its the best movie disney game out compare to the others.
I really had my likes and my dislikes with this one. I loved the references (HAUNTED MANSION FOR THE WIN!!) and the music. Platforming and frustrating levels.... not so much.
But the good ending.... made up for it all. 5/5
@cjszero01 mmm what game should i get which would you recommend me getting for wii golden eye 007 donkey kong country just that i want a game thats good and a lot of replay value or good muiltiplayer on wifi
which one would you buy the 2d platformer for the 3ds or the regular consol one? @cjzero01
@hackensac What do you mean?
@cjszero01 i figured out the Tortuga column's, puzzle! use the watch sketch's to slow down time and raise the columns and then go to the gear where the item is suppose to be and spin it like crazy!
Also I knew about the gemlins before this game came out, AND IM 11! I saw an advertesment about a book for them in the mini magazene Disney Adventures Comix Zone. So... they wern't forgoten after all? Hmm
well i haven't played the first one.
but i played the second...
not a bad game, but not my type of game.
the references to various old cartoons is cool and all.
but not a near "perfect" game.
i would give it a 3/5.
i can't judge this one, because i never played, but i will base myself with your words and gameplay footage.
the design could be better, especialy because it's a mickey game.
if the soundtrack you used is the best in the game... it could've been better.
the story... good.
but what shiny in this game are the choices you can choose.
it makes for a good concept for the game.
especialy the thinner/paint choice.
and since i broght that up...
the enemies are badly made.
it's cool that you can either recruit them or kill them.
but it takes too much paint/thinner to do so.
and i have to say, the normal atk that mickey has, is almost useless.
From my own personal experiences with the game it was really good and I didn't have much problems with it. But in the near future the price of it should drop then it'll be better to buy it
I honestly didn't like this game. It bored me from the beginning and I only continued playing it for a while to see if it got any more interesting. But it didn't, so I never finished it.
@cjszero01 Haha, I actually never noticed that you put that in there! XD I feel silly.
@GamerzSkillzDatKillz Yes.
Wah, that was a perfect review! Capturing all my issues and lovings in the game.
Though I wanted to see more than just 2 cartoons for all those film reels.
