- Former Indiana University Basketball Coach Bob Knight speaks with WRTV's (Indianapolis) Ed Sorenson in 1987. This clip never made TV for obvious reasons. His team went on to beat Syracuse in the National Championship in New Orleans 74-73.

I never was a sports fan, but I admired Coach Knight, especially for his emphasis on academics and grades, and sticking to the rules, running a clean program.
His strength was his toughness... and his weakness was his toughness.
Well said.
I second that 👌!!
Spot on
For those of you impressed by this, it's a valid question. You blow someone out by 51 and then have a close game? It's a generic question and you can give a generic answer. Bottom line is you can be a good, even tough coach without being a jerk like Knight was. There have been great coaches who didn't need to be jerks like that, on AND off the court.
The crazy part was, he was giving a GREAT answer when the guy interrupted him. I would have loved to hear the rest and to know what advantages home court really does have both in real terms and with the mentality of the players. Most will dismiss this as “Knight is just an ass”. The guy really screwed up an opportunity at some wisdom both for himself and his viewership.
Yeah, whatever else he might have done, that was a well thought out answer.
Interesting points he was making that the final score is not indicative of how well you played the rebounding could be even but maybe you just shot well that day...

It’s true. Many things go into winning and losing. That’s why a coach like Knight on the bench is truly rare. indianas current team if playing without the three point line would have a 30+ point margin of victory and would be number one in the nation. With the current rule, not shooting many and not at a high percentage and giving up 24 points a game behind the arc…you have a very average team. Whether coaching can figure this out through motivation, scheme, preparation, scouting, in game strategy or straight up improvement remains to be seen. NIL and transfer portal has changed the game forever and there’s no going back. Thank God I lived to experience the glory of college basketball. It’s now just a farm league and money game:
I was thinking the same thing, it was a perfect answer and this dumbass continued to press.... for no reason...
No, he was full of shit. He outright claimed there's no home court advantage. I don't think he actually believed that, he was just a being contrarian because, as one might reasonably state, Knight was just an ass.
Classic Bob Knight. Rest in peace General.
rest in piss, corpse
Burn in hell bobby
I'm not always in Bobby Knight's corner, but love this. The reporter had it coming.
Exactly! I wasn’t a Knight Fan, but that was AWESOME!!! RIP
The legendary patience of Bob Knight once again on full display. He was a cool customer. Nothing ever seemed to upset him.
That interview is legendary Bob Knight in a nutshell. Good thing he didn't have a chair nearby😂
Or a trash can
Coach Knight was correct about every point.
Except when he told women to enjoy rape if it was inevitable. That was a moronic statement.
@@shlepmessing8703 Of course I meant every point IN THIS VIDEO... ABOUT BASKETBALL. Someone can be an expert at one thing and also not a great person in every single way... but you know that. You're just virtue signalling. Funny... i see a lot of Democrats and left-wingers excusing r@pe by Hamas now. What do you have to say about that?
rest in piss bobby
@@shlepmessing8703
He did not say that. If you don’t understand the statement he made and the context maybe, just maybe you are the moron.
The media was trying to bait him into saying something that would be a knock against Northwestern.
He answered it and it was a good, solid, and accurate answer.
Bobby was always the same. As an Indiana Hoosier sometimes I loved him and sometimes I didn't lol.
Great coach😂
RIP LEGEND
LOL. Bobby Knight was something and will be missed but not forgotten.
RIP
I believe that’s a walk off! Had a flashback and thought my dad was talking to someone. That was awesome…
I can relate
That's what is wrong with the world today . Were getting thin on these type of Hard-nosed No BS Men.
That was not an uninformed or gotchya question. College Basketball and football coaches are notorious for not being able to handle the slightest criticism even when there is none. If you expect your players to act like men, then he should act like one too. Cursing and storming off like a child is an example of a child of a larger growth and nothing more.
RIP Bobby Knight
"Can we try it again, coach?"
Ha! That part got me as well. Did little buddy think that it would go down any differently the next time???
Nope
😂
Rip legend
Bobby Knight would have made an awesome drill sergeant.
Always spoke his mind. I admired him for that. Not politically correct by today's standards. 😮😊
pol. correct = sissies
A man who knew how to put media in their place
News media is scum anyways 😂fake news
He was rude, and swearing,….the reporter should have smacked that 90IQ thug Knight on the spot.
He was also abusive to his players. A very knowledgeable coach who let his temper get the best of him. Unfortunately, that’s what he will be remembered for.
@@jeffreybucklen7505he will be remembered for being the best basketball coach of all time. There’s a reason his players love him so dearly. But good try.
@@chr970does someone need a safe place?
The guy wanted to argue not interview.
He was a prick but his job was to win games and prepare young men for life. He did both.
Remember, if you see Coach Knight in person, walk up and say "What's up, Knight?"
@@elijahscall718 no he's alive, he didn't really die this week, cuz of the New World Order
@@elijahscall718Yep if I see Bobby Knight I am going to really run like hell now! Lol
I doubt there's more to the story than that...
A real man of true grit
A TRUE A$$ HOLE WHO WAS FIRDED FROM HIS JOB, HE THOUGHT HE WAS A GOD..
NOT…………….

I agree with Coach's view on this one. He gave the man an articulate answer but the guy wanted to take up Coach's time so he got some smoke.
Good for you Bobby two coaches I respect Bobby Knight and Herb Brooks a different era when men were men
Men, actually, listen
"Will Rogers never met Bobby Knight."🤣
From a KU fan this was the baddest motherfucka to ever coach a basketball 🏀 team! Rest well coach…
Also, the way that a game is refereed makes a huge difference. I watched a live Division III game last night. There was only one ref. He walked the side of the court where the scorer's table was and the two benches. He never called a foul, travel or carry (no one calls a carry today) on the opposite side of the court. I counted 30 travels and fouls on the home team on that side of the court. The visitors probably had 10 or 15 ridiculously hard fouls on that same side of the court. The ref wasn't cheating for the home team --- on purpose. The home team won by 20.
The NBA office used to give the refs rules tips before playoff games. I'm not sure if they still do. The instructions basically were to influence which team the refs favored. Do you think that there was another reason why Shaq could commit a dozen offensive fouls a game and not have them called?
Bob isn't long for this world. I wonder if they're going to bury him on his stomach so his critics can kiss his ass?
This is true spoken
Bob Knight is all about Bob Knight
That was sooome temper on ol' Bobby.
Can we try again coach lol 😂
His "nope" after he asks "can we try it again, coach" is classic. Wait for it. 😂
It starts out pretty well!
Bob Knight in 1987 in an interview with WRTV’s (Indy) Ed Sorenson.
ed's voice was appalling , that's what did it. I didn't say appealing
Loved Bobby Knight. You wonder where Coach K got his mouth. 💪💪💪
Such a gentleman.
Legend.
“Can we try it again, Coach?”
“Nope!”
😂
A conversation is not a debate.
Rich and compelling,
TALK ABOUT OLD SCHOOL THIS GUY WAS A NATIONAL TREASURE RIP COACH

CLASSIC!!!!
I know a lot of people are going to take coach Knight’s side in this little clip, but I actually respect the guy in the media for not backing down from the often times bullish Knight especially towards the media just doing their job. I respect Coach Knight and his legacy BTW but he was an extremely flawed man in a number of ways.
Awesome.
Wow, what an ending
With Bobby k you never knew what was coming and when you knew then it was too late.
Classic bk.
thats how you should treat crappy reporters
A class act.
"Can we try it again Coach?"
Umm... I think that ship has f*cking sailed
bob was good ok thanxs
Coach Knight was always pissed off.
This was classic
Bobby Knight was a very sick man. There was no reason for him to insult and berate the reporter. All the FUs were ridiculous from Knight. Just such an A-hole.
The first thing the reporter says is that "It amazes me that you could beat them by 51 points".
The first thing Knight says is that "you're stupid if it amazes you". So utterly disrespectful of another human being. So unnecessary to say that. Yes, Bobby Knight had major psych. problems.
Just telling it like it is
Love it 😀
Coach Bob Knight had quite a short fuse and temper🌬️
You guys that is the way Knight was period, I loved his golf show funny as hell. Knight wasn't angry he was frustrated at having to put up with a moron. Knight was a a fighter striving for perfection. He treated himself as he treated others. Don't confuse anger with frustration or seriousness with being mean. The guy didn't accept Knight"s response and became argumentative, Knight became frustrated and blew the guy off. As far as the profanity that's how he talked like a soldie,, he was the General.
Knight was an asshole to the media. Just because a reporter is a idiot doesn't give someone the right to be a dick to them. Knight could have just walked away instead of blowing up at him.
Bobby Knight.
Bobby Fuckin Knight.
Got to Love him no nonsense!
There's a part of me that envies people like Bobby Knight: the IDGAF approach to any,& all comers. Take a "lil" mustard off the top, but serving the same dish.
"Wanna try it again, Coach?"
Ha ha ha ha 😂 😆 I miss those days
I believe this was the same season when they beat Syracuse to win the national championship.
It was. I was waiting for him to rip Alford for “leadership.”😂😂😂😂
Coach was right. However the reporter wanted to show him up. So..the reporter got what he wanted.
What a jag
Reporters forever trying to stick their stupid head into the story.
That interviewer deserved to get owned. LMAO!
I always loved the raw toughness of Coach Knight and his leadership abilities but there's a sizeable difference in not being politically correct and conducting yourself as he did in this situation with abusive profane language that I would not expect from someone in his position.
Rest in peace Bob night but the court HomeCourt does Play a big part in the outcome of the game
Miss Bobby Knight. I mean he gave a really good and insightful answer and the idiot reporter didn’t seem to think it was good enough? Got exactly what he deserved. Rest in peace General. We all miss ya
Come on, that was a good answer, what the hell did he want?
Classy
Don’t miss that guy much…
That reporter was picking a fight
Gotta love the media
Well the answer he gave was the answer they wanted out of him
Classic
51 Points is a lot.
Yes it is but Northwestern was terrible that year as they have been for the most part over history. They went 7-21 while Indiana went 30-4 and won the national championship.
The guy was a punk Bobby didn’t put up with bullshit
He's like Santa.
Home court has a LOT to do with it and he probably knows that. College basketball teams are awful in true road games. But you can get away with it since early season games are mostly home games and neutral courts. March is neutral courts. so you really just have to weather January and February road games.
Bottom line, he did not like stupidity he put people in their place old school, no nonsense commander personality

He didn't need to be such a jerk
I agree. I agree that the media can be idiots and a burden but Knight should have just walked away without saying anything else if he got annoyed by his questions.
When you don't want to debate, your position is weak. Expletives are a poor substitute for eloquence.
😂 you too are illuminating your relative lack of knowledge with a statement like that! Ironic
He wasn't there to debate. He was trying to answer an interview question but the clown wouldn't let him.
Bob Knight Theater 🤷♂️
Did Knight say home court didn't matter? I think he knew that was a lie as the words were exiting his mouth.
Knight was allowed to get away with this sort of behavior for so long that he couldn't change even after he was finally put on a zero tolerance policy.
Funny as it gets
I think Bobby Knight could've used some decaf throughout his life
Bob said You clearly don’t know basketball 😂
lol! lol! lol! rip coach knight!!
Bruh it’s basketball you win some u lose some
Hahahaa “Nope”
Bobby Knight was like Donald Trump towards the press 30 years before Trump. He basically originated the concept of only respecting interviews where he respected the interviewer.
Ed Sorenson getting slammed.
"Wanna try that again, coach? 👀
WTF??? 🤨
Dude's a glutton for punishment!
✊️👊💨💥😳🤯😵💫😵😴
Unlike most people back then he wasn't scared of Knight, but didn't want to be openly hostile or Knight would have never taken another interview with him.
He was a bully. This is the result of years having unbalanced power over young men who had to put up with his crap, same for mid-level reporters; when he coached the Olympic team he never dared to speak to those players as he did during his college years. He wasn't tough - he was akin to a senior in high school picking on a freshman.
🤣
I imagine you watching this video from the comfort of your safe space.
Not really there tuff-guy. I actually competed in a man's sport - college wrestling. Knight's big mouth wouldn't have lasted too long in the room. @@brianmoore645
Trump should have made him press secretary in first term
. Those days are over , lol
