My wife went to the University of Illinois from 1985 to 1989. At Assembly Hall, in Champaign, we played Indiana. The Illini had a GREAT team, a final 4 team. Nick Anderson, Kendall Gill, Marcus Liberty, Steve Bardo. After the game (Illinois won), I yelled out "KNIGHT, YOU'RE AN A$$HOLE." Bobby Knight went BERSERK, and tried to get the police to find me in the stands!!
You got to live most Guy's dream!! I would have LOVED to do that and I have never really been into BB. I have always enjoyed giving back to people who deserve it... good AND bad
Coach Knight, do you deny any responsibility for getting fired? I've seen the videos of choking players in practice or throwing chairs during games. Don't claim you're innocent.
Like a typical bully he takes absolutely no responsibility for his actions. And he didn’t just go. Tell the kid not to address an adult that way. He grabbed the kid by his shirt collar and put him up against the wall. It’s a little different from his version of the story. But the unfortunate reality is that if Indiana had been 14 and one and nationally ranked at the time then Knight would not have been fired. Indiana had been shit for many years and they were looking for a reason to get rid of him. And he gave it to them
Bobby Knight was an unreformed @sshole. It's not just his players or the refs or the media or the fans or some random undergrad that he has bullied, attempted to bully or treated like garbage. He repeatedly shit all over Coach K after K turned Duke into a national power in college basketball. He disrespected him again and again despite the fact that he and K had once been close and he had even worked to help K get his coaching position at Duke and at Army. I'm a UNC fan through and through and don't have a lot of use for Coach K or Duke basketball but even I have to admit the way Knight treated him was absolutely abhorrent. Neither the UNC Coaching tree or Coach K and his former assistants have ever treated each other the way Knight behaved towards K.
Bobby Knight was a bully. A lot of people succeed without being an ass. He was his own worst enemy. At least he didn't throw a chair in this interview.
Classic toxic narcissist. His response to the kid was due to narcissistic injury -- not being treated like a god. Do you suppose Knight responded that way every time he saw a kid speaking casually to an adult? Of course not, because it was all about Bobby.
I don't get people who still worship this guy. He wasn't George Patton, he wasn't even Herb Brooks. May he rest in peace of course. Larry Bird didn't want to play for him, and you can't say Larry didn't have a work ethic. I have had hard-ass coaches who drove you relentlessly but you knew they had hearts of gold an cared. Then I've had sadistic psychos who never felt comfortable getting out into the world beyond high-school and college. I think Knight just liked bossing kids around and with a lot of such cases he developed a cult of personality.
Bobby Knight sounds soft as fuck. Who the fuck gets offended by that? Serious anger issues. I love passionate, fiery, strong people who don't give a flying fuck about things like language or throwing some chairs, but that's absurd.

Finally, because of negative media coverage and student complaints the university put him on a Zero tolerance policy. A little while later Knight was walking in the hallway at school and some kid shouted out, “Hey Knight”. Bob felt disrespected and put his hands on the kid. Knight was unapologetic and the university fired him. He has only himself to blame.
@@SammySnead this reads like a chatgpt created response...I'm not saying it is, but it's suspicious. I am very aware of what happened with Knight. I grew up in Bloomington. I lived there when he was fired...and there was a hell of a lot more to the scenario than just what was reported to news outlets. Thank you for the retelling, but it doesn't change the fact that the man is dead...and all this is for nothing but views.
@@myrmidon76 Nope, I have a good memory. He was a great BBall coach. He seemed to have a lot of integrity as far as players getting an education. I’m sure he had other good qualities as well, but he was also a bully and a hothead.
@@myrmidon76 it wasn't an isolated incident though. He tried to kick his own son while he was a player for Indiana and then made an obscene gesture when Indiana fans booed him for his boorish behavior. He got into a shoving match with LSU fans. He threw a folding chair onto the court in a middle of a game while having a tantrum. The list goes on and on and on. This incident was simply the straw that broke the camel's back. The man was a complete @sshole and his coaching talent doesn't change that fact.
Indiana university basketball has been an absolute disaster ever since the dismissal of Coach Knight!! Two years of hope but doom and gloom since!! Woodson should have been fired last year but never hired in the first place!!! BOT not looking out for the university or us fans!!!
Bobby is leaving out a lot of the details as to why he got fired. It wasn't one incident, it was many incidents over the course of a decade. He was a great coach but he was a bully. At the end of the day the world changed and Bobby didn't change with it. Many great companies have fallen because they refused to adapt.
"Son, can we get a cup a coffee?" Over coffee, ".,.And that 's why you address elders with respect..." " Keep in touch, let me know if I can help you along the way" Years later, the boy, " Coach Knight changed my life." Different approach.
Vince Lombardi and Coach Knight shared some similar traits and one was, they wanted you to realize your full potential in life.
Anyone who was for Mike Woodson being hired as the coach for Indiana University Men’s Basketball needs to never ever have input or involvement again!!!! DUMB hire!!
he's right
I thought Indiana fired him for putting his hands around peoples throats.
..he didn’t just talk to the kid that addressed him as Knight, he also grabbed his arm. Obviously not assault but an act that made this incident more than just a conversation..
Bob Knight was great as a coach in Indiana his team was always great. The Indiana Hoosiers were great not like the Indiana Hoosiers of football but Indiana Hoosiers a basketball or great Larry Bird went to Indiana. Larry Bird with the Hoosiers. They have such a long story history Indiana Hoosier basketball. Football not so much. Bob Knight is a legend always and forever.
❤love Bobby Knight.
He's how old now? Still seems miserable. God Bless you Bobby Knight.
Love this guy
Jimmy V was pretty wild sometimes but I don’t know that he ever treated kids like Bobby Knight. Go pack
This can’t be a recent interview or from anytime just before his death as he looks way too healthy. His attitude towards IU changed before he died.
The man is legend in his own mind , plus he conveniently forget how many lawsuits he’s lost
When they fired Knight I quit watching IU sports after 3 decades of watching
Bobby Knight hasn’t earned the right to criticize anyone, considering his poor behavior.
Larry Bird was smart to walk away from this clown and and lead another Indiana team to an undefeated season and the NCAA Championship game.
He didn't leave Indiana cause of Bobby Knight. Bird has said many times he left cause he was ( home sick ). Had nothing to do with COACH Knight!!!

Joe Buck being an absolute milquetoast here, afraid to confront this guy for being an absolute asshole. This is how Bobby Knight got away with this behavior for so long, no one would stand up to him. Being courageous is doing something you know is right, even if the consequences are bad for you, Joe you were not courageous in this interview.
You must be a limp d1ck Gen Z pu$$y. This world was far better with Gen Patton, Vince Lombardi and Bobby Knight. Real men, not Beta Males.
Please use the word absolute a few more times
@@Hi-ko9dv I absolutely cornholed your Mom.
Larry Bird never comes up with Bobby Knight interviews.
Ummmm.... you also CHOKED a player during a practice. Is that acceptable behavior as a coach?
Uh, back then, Yes.
Bobby Knight is the epitome of becoming bigger than the game and how bad it can get when you allow it to go unchecked
@@tntroo7009do not shit talk the general robert montgomery knight you fucking little batch.
The real Jackhole was you. Coming here to brag about it proves it.
Knight was a psychopath.
How many games I coulda won? I don't remember him ever taking a shot.
What's Joe Buck doing here? He's a baseball guy and sometimes a football guy...what does he know about basketball?
He’s bullshit because you don’t choke your players in practice
Bob knight was a bully and ego maniac I’m a huge in fan but he was a total jerk
I'm not even a fan. Coach K had 300 more wins. That's not just better. That's better class, better character, a better coach and a better man.
@@doloreschansey9556Not taking any sides here but it seems you have forgotten who taught Mike most of what he knew about basketball.
Simulation one of the best Xs and Os coaches, and a player bullier and abuser.
Isn't "Knight" his name???? That's what happens when people are practically deified. They think they are ABOVE everyone else & not accountable.
Coach Knight, do you deny any responsibility for getting fired? I've seen the videos of choking players in practice or throwing chairs during games. Don't claim you're innocent.
He was a psycho with his players and referees. He was exactly like lou pinella in basketball.
And he gave it to them
I thought he was dead😂
Are you claiming PTSD?
I don't know much about Bob Knight. But it's clear to see he was unhinged and had a terrible anger problem that IU could only put up with for so long.
Joe Buck w seaman on his chin. His trademark. 😂
That's some ego. The taxpayers of Indiana paid him millions for being a lackluster coach. Kid should have told him to, "Dance, monkey"
A lackluster coach who at one time had more all time wins than anyone else? Students should be referring to their teachers in such derogatory terms?
You just proved his point. Thanks.
Bobby Knight was a bully. A lot of people succeed without being an ass. He was his own worst enemy. At least he didn't throw a chair in this interview.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Classic toxic narcissist. His response to the kid was due to narcissistic injury -- not being treated like a god. Do you suppose Knight responded that way every time he saw a kid speaking casually to an adult? Of course not, because it was all about Bobby.
No your ego got you fired. And you should have been fired
Is he still alive?
No.
could dish it out but couldn't take it....such a cry baby.
He was a troubled person. So self absorbed.
What’s the name of this show White Guy Heroes.
The show it racist… hahaha… whiny people
The Black Guy heroes channel is doing a special on the time George Floyd held a gun to a pregnant womans belly while he robbed her.
Bobby Knight sounds soft as fuck. Who the fuck gets offended by that? Serious anger issues. I love passionate, fiery, strong people who don't give a flying fuck about things like language or throwing some chairs, but that's absurd.
Knight should of practice what he preached, he was a poor example of sportsmanship, and thought his shit didnt stink
Bob knight and Donald Trump are basically the same person
knights Puerto Rican fiasco describes him perfectly does some dumb shit talks using racial slurs then no self accountability he's just obviously a big proponent of his own hype
What's up knight
Imagine getting fired for being old a Karen....man I used to like Bobby, what a asshole
His attitude was so worst whenever he was coaching the indiana hoosiers in his career in college basketball.
