I live in Horn Lake, Mississippi, near Memphis, Tennessee. I was stationed in Heidelberg at Patton Barracks in the late 70s. I would take a short train ride to Mannheim a few times for concerts. I never did just go visit Mannheim and now I am sorry I didn't! Thankyou for showing me a little of Mannheim!

Another little mini-outing that is free is Schillerplatz at B2. When we were kids we would play at the park playground, eat a pretzel or drink fruit juice. Today we take a stroll thru the park while we take our own kids.
Directly overlooking the park is the old Jesuit Church. It is Magnificent. (Stunningly magnificent in its Baroque architecture named as Culturally noteworthy).
At B5 is where Schiller was born, and his home is marked.
Across the street from A1 is the Mannheimer Schloss which today is a University. And A2 has become a favorite coffee-shop hang-out.
    Mini-Outing (2-4 hours): Mannheimer Schloss, A2-A4, B2, B5
(Also near the Mannheimer Schloss sector is the ice skating ring, indoor Schwimmbad and for those inclined the Engelhorn-Reiss Museum. But that’s a bit more than a mini-outing.)
    Mannheimer Schloss is home base. The Quadrant count starts from the Schloss … A1, A2, A3 … B1, B2, B3 … etc.
In the center of the city is ParadePlatz.
The other end of the city is Wasserturm and park. Wasserturm park is also spectacular after sundown when the water displays change colors.
PS … I was born in Mannheim and spent my childhood years there before we immigrated to the USA. When I visit, I love to reminisce.
If your journey happens to take you there, I hope you will have a rememberable time 🫶🏼

Thanks for watching! I would have liked to see more of Mannheim but we ran out of time. Guess we have to go back someday.

I was at the Luisenpark last year 2023 and saw the Garden Show. My grandmother had an annual pass and when we were kids, she would take us. Luisenpark has an entry fee of 12€ and gondola rides for an additional fee so it’s a half-day trip. During the Garden Show it was definitely worth the entrance fee as it included a cable car ride over the river to Ludwigshafen and back. That was awesome. We caught the cable car ride back coincidentally just as the sun was setting. The timing could not have been better. A favorite moment in time.
