24 Hours to Figure Out Why Mannheim Is the City of Everything

  • Josh and Kalie from ExpatsEverywhere asked their Patrons on Patreon what they wanted to see them do on their Christmas travels. They voted to explore Mannheim, Germany because there have been some pretty funny headlines about it and how it is supposedly the city of everything. Unfortunately they only have 24 hours to be there and have to figure out if it really is the city of everything in this short time period. What do they see? Do they get to all of the numbers on the map? Do they think it's the city of everything? Join them on this adventure!

I’m a native Californian and I live and grew up here in Mannheim (there used to be way more Americans here, back when we still had all the military installations).
Next time you guys pass by, I’d love to show you around.
Not just Mannheim but also the surrounding area like Heidelberg etc.
The car was invented here (by Carl Benz) as well as what’s considered to be the first bicycle, so there’s actually a lot of history.
Edit: and you guys really did smell chocolate lol, we have a chocolate factory in Jungbusch.

A really nice video. I´m from Mannheim and i must say, Mannheim is much more then in the video see. I miss the spirit of the town and the magic of "multi kulti". One day is not enough for this great city.

Thanks, Michael. Yes, we certainly get it. There's wayyyyy more. It's all we could capture with sunset at 4:30 and a toddler while also maintaining a theme. We'd actually like to go back. It was a fun little stop over to break up our train journey from Luxembourg to Frankfurt. - Josh & Kalie

Mannheim is probably my favourite place outside of the UK. Go over every year for a couple of hockey games. Its not an immediately obvious tourist city, but there's plenty to see and do. A great place for a long weekend because of the places that are only a short train journey away. Day trip to Heidelberg is a must, but nothing comes close to my pre-match hockey routine. Food in Murphy's Law. Tram from Tattersall to SAP Arena. Get your standing spot in the stehplatz and (hopefully) cheer Die Adler to victory. The people of Mannheim have always been fantastic when I've been over for hockey. Loads of soccer options in the area and pro handball too. Just a brilliant place to visit.

Guys, Manheim seems pretty dull. I have been only once there and would never fly to get there for 24 hours. Another thing, if the trip took place after 25 December, you should check out the covid restrictions in Germany for people coming from Portugal (especially the little one/quarentine of at least 5 days). Stay safe.

You know, we didn't really run into any issues in Frankfurt except for the fact that we were there during the holiday period where things shutdown from midday on the 24th and didn't reopen until Monday or Tuesday in some cases. We were turned away in Koblenz as we tried to go to a restaurant near the train station and we didn't have a covid test along with our vaccine. The problem in Mannheim is that we were so full from the late lunch that we didn't need a full dinner and we think we misunderstood the signs on the door that we just need to show proof of vaccine or letter of recovery and not also the PCR test. 😅 - Josh & Kalie
