As the dresser is not a priceless antique I agree with the other comments about oiling it (mixture of boiled linseed oil and turpentine), waxing the drawer gliders, and adding some pretty hardware. It’s such a pretty piece. When I paint furniture, I let the paint cure well and then apply beeswax. It gives it a light sheen, but on the upside makes the paint extremely durable. Great job on the renovation!

I don't think I would leave the dresser in there for guests to have to try and open. I'd have to drill a hole in each draw and find an antique knob for each one.

I’m a new subscriber to your channel and have been binge watching to catch up. My husband and I live in Washington and are seriously considering a move to Brittany. Our son has lived in Brittany for the last 16 years and is also a chef (French trained). He suffered restaurant burn-out and started a food truck 5 years ago. Check out “Street Burritos” when you crave some Mexican food. Many of his ingredients are home grown and are organic.
I love the black painted bed, I wasn’t sure when you first mentioned you’d paint the bed black but it looks great! I also liked the iron bed you found in one of the cottages and think it’s worth repainting and bringing into the château. Lincoln has mastered the art of wallpaper removal and made it look easy, not a fun job! Thank you for sharing your journey. Back to binge watching! 😊

If you watch the vlog The Pethericks …another family in France with a rather large chateau, you’ll see that Billy cleaned all the limestone very quickly and simply with an acid wash which made everything come to looking new in a very short time followed by a power wash to remove the acid. Of course, you need to be careful if there are plants beneath the area you are cleaning. I love the work you’re doing and I’m sure little by little everything will work it…it always does! I’m just about to attack my 13th home renovation, this time, in Italy. I’ve done 2 major renovations in France and many others here in Australia. I love it ♥️🥰😁

The black will look stunning on the beds and it looks nice on the interior of the amoire. Covers up all the imperfections. Tres chic. The sensor lights are a great idea. Love the wide floorboards in the guest bedroom. An earlier comment about the osmo coat for the floorboards was a good suggestion too. The floorboards will come up a treat with osmo coat and it is less messy to apply than other options. Its the quick easy option. Try Doing it Ourselves, Chateau de la Baismagne (sorry not sure on the spelling) The Pethericks will get Billy Petherick's youtube vlog. Someone else mentioned the Pethericks …. for their renovations Billy was very resourceful finding items needed …. And for the wood floors he used a product called Osmo! The floors looked beautiful!
For removing wallpaper they spayed on a liquid that soaked the paper and you could just peel the top layer off in one piece. Repeat for second layer. Not sure which method is easier… steamed or the spray stuff!

Figure out the oil to use to keep ir from drying and yes, a bar of soap and some candle was while help the drawers. It you can find perfect candles and it doesn't take away, rather adds to the beauty, time period and ease, then by all means, make it easier to open. I am Sur they make them for this day and age but I'm fairly sure they were on the doors-did you see that?- Anyway, they had two doors on all of their bedchambers-and I recall seeing the clear protecters! Therefore, it would not be inappropriate to use them in an older manor house-chateau- what have you in the way of "Great Houses". Good fortunes.. I became reworried about the kitty-kitty. We have always been animal lovers- adorers, really. Oh, now I recall, I was hoping you would get those "break-away collars" for your animals because they climb or run through something, get hung up with an unbreakable collar and it is -well, devastating. Pull the individual drawers out and rub either cabinet maker chalk along the bottom of each runner or candle wax. This will help each drawer glide in and out smoothly. Test out each drawer until smooth, keep applying until it runs smooth. The other thing is that the runners might be biting in because they are warped, unfortunately, if this is the case, you will have to replace the individual runners for smooth drawer running. This is not hard, just another job for the list lol. If you like the timber look, you could wax or use various oils to enhance the look of the cabinet. Personally, I would use milk paint, especially as you have painted the beds and the inside of the wardrobe. The milk paint allows the pattern of the wood to peep through (depending on how many layers you do) and I think its so french and so country all at the same time. Either way, it will look lovely, also with some nice hardward too.

Go to your local brocante, take key with you, usually they have 'orphan' keys for sale.

Vandal wax will make them open and close easier!

If you take beeswax on the bottoms of all the drawers they will slide much easer the dresser is old and it sounds like the interior wood needs a good conditioning is all and the tracks I which they slide on 🥰

With the chest of drawers, perhaps the upside down half cup type handles could work. The drawers look quite big and are presumably heavy, therefore one each side of the key hole. Just a thought. Your chateau will look beautiful when cleaned and the painting is done.

Using a dry bar of soap or sanding a bit will do it.👍🏻😁

On the drawers, try taking a bar of soap and put it on the runners of the drawers. Coat both sides of bottom and the top.
Flea Collars are bad for kitties, can cause seizures. Please take it off. Look it up. Cat Mother of 7 kitties 💕

Candle wax on the draw runner would help to move in and out , large glass knobs on the draws i would put 2 on each draw and oil the dresser to bring back to life.

Why not visit some brocantes and see if your can find some old drawer pulls that go with the style and era of that dresser and just add them.
I guess is should have read the other comments before I put in my useless two cents! 😂

Would giving the Chateau cat a flea and tick treatment from the vet be better then the collar ?

    • @OurFrenchChateau

The vet suggested the collar - it's a breakaway one as well.

@@OurFrenchChateau thank-you , I am glad that it is a breakaway because it did cross my mind Mimi could get trapped by hooking up on a stick , twig etc.

I just watched "Sadie in France" latest video on REMOVING WALLPAPER using a solution mixed with water. It was so timesaving and produced a great result. Check it out. It might be something you want to try in the future. The painted furniture came out really nice.

Attach a silk tie that can be pulled from each side to help the drawer jiggle out easier?

The bed sides were not really damaged, they were never really finished since these beds were designed to be against a wall.

I just commented on your other video....get rid of the lilies! They are highly poisonous to cats. That could be what caused her seizure. Cats can die from lilies very easily. I hope she is doing better now. Loving the restoring of the guest rooms!
