The whole basement scenario reminded me of that line in "Forrest Gump", "We had all kinds of rain, rain that came from the top, sideways rain, and rain that came from the bottom," the basement was defiantly bottom rain. It must be hard to maintain positivity at times. Our winter, was wet, wet, wet like you are currently experiencing, I do feel for you. I am super glad that we are now in summer here, the winter does feel too long in Tasmania compared to mainland Australia, so you really feel like you are dragging yourself through every day right at the end. YAY for the drone! And its mind boggling how long the drain is!!

  • @SuzanneBaruch

The bathroom is really coming along, and is already very beautiful! Hang in there, guys! And I'm so sorry about your fresh plaster -- but at least you were able to figure out what needed to be fixed. Also, no need to apologize about your garden. It's Winter and this is real life, which is one of the reasons why I love this channel -- you two are real people facing real challenges, and you don't hesitate to show us what's really involved in owning a Chateau.

drain "snakes" and drones ---old and new technology. Glad you have both. I am now curious how many extensions for the drain will be needed after that 150 feet!!! I'm with you, leaks & water are not my favorite finds; I've experienced both so can empathize. I'm glad the bathroom worked when you had your holiday company--didn't matter if it was painted or not. I'm sorry for your problems but on the other hand I'm amazed how Americans or Brits buying ancient French property are proceding. A lot of sometimes detailed effort is put into internal renovations but the big picture is not looked at. The structure of the house, the roof, the external windows and doors, ecological heating and insulation, electricity etc. Once this is solved, you can buy the first can of paint, but not before.

I live in an area in Eastern Pennsylvania where basements flood often due to creeks overflowing and a high groundwater table. Most people have whole house generators or at least a battery backup on their sump pumps so if the power goes out the sump pump continues working. I understand you had a clog but if you lose power often you may want to consider a battery. Your walled garden is beautiful and your ground seems so fertile. The views are stunning. The bathroom is close to being completed and it looks great. Happy New Year to your family. xx

Oh gosh water issues are a pain whether coming in or out. I’m sure you’ve heard we have flooding in your old SF stomping grounds. I’m fine but others aren’t. Kudos to Lincoln for his dedication to figuring out all these issues.

Hi, could Lincoln pop a coloured smoke bomb down the drain and seal up the opening in the basement, you may need a little hand held fan to push it down the pipe quicker, you then go outside and see where the coloured smoke comes up, that will then help him see where the drain ends and he can make plans from there to either put a grid over it to stop stuff getting down there, etc. The garden looks just the same as every other garden at this time of year, nature is trying to reclaim it. It will give you a good workout bending, stretching, lifting, etc. getting it back into shape. Happy New Year
