We are Amanda and Lincoln. With our two daughters and pets in tow, we moved across the world from our home in San Francisco California to buy and restore a petite chateau on 40 acres in the beautiful French countryside of Brittany.
Our channel documents our triumphs and failures in restoring the 19th-century Chateau de Lingourdy. We plan to return the gardens, cottages and barns to their former glory. Yes it was imaginative varied and memorable!!! In short brilliant
head collar, halter. To catch them put the head collar behind your back and approach with a carrot with an open hand. Start putting a head collar on a few times a week and team it with a reward of food and walk them up and down. Tie them up to groom them the more you do it the easier it will be for you and them.
But First, since they are still overweight, use the harness equipment as gym equipment!😂

Lincoln is such a patient man when it comes to getting stuff done. I know what its like to have to bribe someone with treats to beable to do what u need to do. They r like children, i know my dogs r.
It was so good to see the donkeys being pamperd , they look so well cannot belive they have to still lose more weight . They make me happy.
Chase them around with the halters everyday! They really have some speed, when they want😊
This was a fun video. The pillow demonstration with Lincoln sleeping while you were mowing the lawn was priceless. Lincoln definitely keeps his cool while doing very frustrating jobs. Oh my goodness after all of that, it was the bulbs!!! The room is looking so good and the donkeys look so much thinner. Great editing with the donkeys running away from you. xx

Every time you give them treats, have the halter casually on your shoulder so they get use to seeing it. Take them for walks to check the mail.
First, I could not stop laughing through the pillow portion. Then the light bulbs was over the top!! You two crack me up. 🤣

In America, the most common color of electric tape is black. The full rainbow is available here, but generally only electricians use them. My husband is an electrician, we have the full rainbow in the workshop.
I've went out and bought new bulbs thinking they were broken but hadn't screwed them properly either!! 😅. Love the care you have for the donkeys! 🤗
I liked it when you said they liked being taken for a walk. Sounds like fun for them and hopefully they will associate their halters with fun and not just the ferrier.
Perhaps after getting them geared up, going for a walk down the alley? He did say they were still a bit overweight😮

we always kept the halters on our donkey and horses full time. Much easier to grab them whenever you needed to and as long as you keep an eye on them they will do no harm!
Love the drone shots! Stunning 😍 look at those little stinker donkeys! They are just too funny, but oh so sweet!! I don’t think they look fat in the least! Maybe it’s cuz I’m 15 lbs,overweight. That is a great idea to take them for a walk. Good bonding experience ❤

Lincoln it was so smart to check lights still work before you do the final permanent wiring!!! Not checking the bulbs, sounds like something I would do! Hang in there you’re doing great work!
Coaxing things into place with the occasional swear words has been a tried and true method for many generations. The room is coming along nicely. Don’t be to hard on yourself about deadlines and borrow that pillow from Lincoln on occasion. You have earned the nap.

I can always count on a lol with you two. “Lincoln using an assortment of swear words”-love your sense of humor. Great add for the pillow-very cute! Lincoln’s talents, expertise and patience never ceases to amaze me. Funny about the bulb-been there done that. Sconces look beautiful. The donkeys are always good for a laugh, too.
Maybe put the donkey's HALTERS (haha) on and walk them for 15-20 mins a day and get them used to wearing them/being lead. . When you get done brush them and pick up their feet, then reward them with a few treats. They need to be handled a bit more.
That's our plan :)

Take out grain or treats. You'll get the donkeys then. Im happy to hear the owners were found for the sweet pup. 😮❤

Well Done with the donkey farrier job. If you have a area where you can lock them in get them in there and lock them in and put the halters on and tie them(always with a quick release) and pick their feet and give them a brush then undo them and give them a treat like some grain with carrots in it. Try to be diligent and do it at least once a week. Always keep in mind that in case of a emergency you need them more broke or you will not be able to possibly save their lives. I have 30 years experience with horses. Be confident horses know your weaknesses and body language. You got this…..😊
It might pay to electrify a very small area, bribe them into it, then manage the halter job. Timing for the farrier so they aren't in the small area too long, would be key. Maybe a little larger area electrified right next door, would assist you in re catching them easier too. Hard to say.

As you mess with the donkey's feet you should also be playing with their heads. By putting on and taking off the harnesses only when the farrier comes, they do remember why. I would be putting fly masks on them. You could also put ropes around their necks while they are eating carrots and apples and then add the harness.

Hi there, a suggestion to help you catch the donkeys is to have a lead rope attached to the halter, hide it behind your back, offer donkey a treat and as the donkey eats gently loop the lead around his neck then slip the halter over his nose
2:18 I've been giving myself deadlines to finish my own French house remodel for the last 5 years.
2:31 It's not difficult. I did my first try inside a small walk-in closet. It was difficult. There's no wallpaper anywhere else in my house.
16:45 Get them to associate halters with strawberries and it might be a lot easier. You might also consider hanging the halters on their house wall when not in use. That way the halters become part of their every day environment. I hope you don't mind some suggestions from someone who has no experience with donkeys but a fair understanding of animal psychology.
Hi Amanda and Lincoln, you know once you get the halters on, you can leave them on, for a while, so they can adjust, and you won't have to go through this. I would leave mine on my horses, when they were out to pasture, I never had a problem. Lincoln if you are what a loose connection looks like, everyone should have one. Well done. I have to tell you; I have bone on bone, in my neck, I get cortisone shots and sleep in a neck brace. I ordered a pillow, and I am looking forward to finally maybe a good night's sleep. You need to have a pen to bring them into. A smallish pen that they can’t really run away from you. Treats are for when they exhibit good behavior. 😊 Seems like that trimming session went well. 👍🏼

I know you probably don’t have a lot if time to read but there is a great book called running with Sherman. Sherman being a donkey and his owner starts training with him for a donkey race they do in the US (Colorado) really cute and fun story.

Use a bucket of feed and a lead rope with a breakaway halter. I know, we have horses and yes they can be challenging. So make nice nice and fus with them. Rag wort, don’t let them go to seed. I put them in the burn pit!

Keep the halter on them for a while. Cross tie them when you give treats. They'll get trained that the cross ties are good. While cross tied work on their feet.
Have you ever tried carrots and apples while you put on their halters? First coral them !!!

Your donkey-chasing made me laugh out loud… and though you likely already know this word, I learned a new and useful word just this summer from mon professeur de français…if you don’t know the word for something…le truc = the thing - very handy😉, as in “c’est truc est quoi?”

Doing Wallpapering all depends on the pattern and the repeat you have very detailed not easy so be careful on the pattern you choose.

You might try hiding the halters behind your back when you are trying to corner them to put the halter on. Just a thought.
Lincoln is a patient man.
I was raised with horses and farm animals with the cows that had led to other pastures. We usually their halter tops on at weeks at a time in a pasture, there were no way that they could harm himself with with a halter top. Is there any way that they would harm them self, if you left their halter top on longer.

Oh my gosh! We are renovating a farm house and I completely feel your pain! I redo literally everything I do… twice… only to find out it was fine the first time! Keep laughing! Find the positive always! I just shake my head and laugh!
Problem with the halter is that they see it. Put it behind you or put your arm thru it and hang it on your shoulder like a purse. Then, while you are giving them the carrots, put the lead rope around their neck so at least they think they've been caught. And, they need practice.

As a rancher can I offer you some advise on the donkeys? You need to start penning them when you feed them. It gets them used to going in their donkey house or pen when you have food. When it’s time to put the harness on, just lure them in the pen with food. It’s much easier to put the harness in when they are contained.
