    When this album came out I stayed up all night with a friend listening to it over and over. We shook our heads in disbelief. Who could write such songs? Of course we knew JB, but this was a surpassing of prior stuff (to me and to my friend, anyway). I remember that night especially well because after listening to this album (The late Show) a dozen or so times, we went outside before dawn, in central Maine, and the northern lights were blazing. It was mystical. And now I'm a few decades older and that friend passed away way too early from ALS. It is a truth that music, and maybe more-so, epic music (to each their own), brings one back to amazing moments in one's life.. I am not much of a clinger-onner of the past, but there are instances when a song from another period smacks you in the heart and you think of things that were really awesome. I loved the photography in this video. It is so organic to the song (a song of solitude). We live in such a beautiful world. All we need to do is see it. Terrific job posting!

      I think Music is the closest thing we have to an actual '*time-machine*'!....it's absolutely magical the way it can instantly transport us back in time...in a flash we're almost re-living those same moments and feelings again! And JB and others, have given us some beauuuutiful, epic songs for our trips down memory lane!!....(loved your story..thanks for sharing!)

      Same here.
      I hear this song, and ALL of the memories from my college days come streaming back to me, from when this album was new, and just released.
      And yes, I cannot help but well up when I hear it, and many others by this phenomenal songwriter.
      NOBODY writes songs like this any more! :(
      Yes, there are many great songwriters around, and I love their material, but Jackson just hits it DIRECTLY as far as the emotions go, and the incredible thing is he was so young, and had not even lived all that much life yet to have been able to have experienced what he was writing about, when he penned these gems!
      Hence, the "Boy Wonder" moniker given him by the music press of the time, especially for "These Days" which he wrote when he was what, 16?!!
      I also LOVE Dave Lindley's string bending guitar (Stratocaster?) work on this song.

    Love knows not its depth till the hour of separation, until the final tear is shed from the well of sorrow and the heart itself regains the delicate balance. That hour, which knows neither seconds nor minutes, chimes unknown and unknowingly, awaiting the scar of time that suddenly and without warning will salve and heal the wounds of love. Be patient and allow the sting to burn into memory how fragile the strongest can be, brought to their knee's, helpless and lost without love of rhyme nor reason.

    • @danc3831
      @danc3831 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The intro phrase..."till the hour of separation" is indeed from Gibran who introduced me and impacted my life to casually study the philosophy of this prophet in 1966. The remaining are my own thoughts and feelings molded in the likeness of this very serious man and his beliefs. I have been served nothing but advantage in my life when applying his works of thought as simple as they may appear. He has indeed tapped my inner self to sensuously "feel" the world and people that have surrounded me, who to discard and who to adhere.

      + SCD . I think between 24 - 26 years old.It is hard to know because a writer like Jackson Browne he could easily have a song in the works off and on for any amount of time until it is actually published on an album, and once in the studio things can change. As far as being 17 or 18, his songs had been published starting as early as age 16 with many people recording his songs from that time on such as Joan Baez, Hour Glass (the Allman Brothers), Tom Rush, Jackson Five, Eagles, Nico, Hedge and Donna, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Ashes, Bonnie Raitt, The Byrds, Joe Cocker, Johnny Rivers, Linda Ronstadt, Warren Zevon and Hank Williams, Jr. Once he became famous, no one wanted to duplicate his songs with the exception of old friend Gregg Allman. Up until his death, Gregg Allman had recorded four of Jackson's songs, the last one being a dedication to his brother Duane, who died at 26. It was ''Adam"s Song", "who stopped his singing in the middle of his song".

      Sending good vibes and a virtual hug, Gail. I've been to the lowest terrain in my life. The journey up the mountain was one of the most difficult I've ever experienced, but the view from the top is spectacular.
      Hand in there ♥️
