This is one of the saddest most beautiful songs ever. The powerful words and the effort to try to save the relationship is heartwarming and heartbreaking

Browne says that this is one of his most personal songs. He told Mojo in 1997: "It's about a moment when you realize that something has changed, it's over, and you're late for wherever you're going to be next."

@@DonMac yes, but you didn't need him to tell you that you could figure it out by listening to the song. The song is pretty straightforward but the way in which he writes is impeccable and simply beautiful. Often comparing life to a highway like in the song Bright Baby Blues, Running on Empty and many more . I understand over the years, most songwriters leave it up to the audience's interpretation. They may base it on a true story or several stories but it's how the audience interprets it that makes the song special to them. I know specifically this is true with Elton John and Bernie Taupin. I saw an interview many years ago. Elton John explained his songs don't even have a particular meaning at all. Personally, I think the power of the lyrics is in each individual line and they're not always cohesive like in my favorite song Cutains! Another one of the most beautiful underrated songs ever. If you notice it doesn't really make sense no matter how many times you listen to it, but line by line it makes you cry along with that Melody. I guess that's the beauty of lyrics, what they mean to each of us. I'm just rambling on in the middle of the night here on TH-cam LOL! Good morning or evening Wherever You Are!

@@vlrissolo That's the beauty of lyrics, it's up to the individual how they interpret them.
I'm not a big fan of Elton John, and I had to google the lyrics of Curtains, it sems the “scarecrow” mentioned is considered to be a reference to a song of the same name by Elton John which was recorded circa 1968. It was the first the he and Bernie Taupin actually penned together. However, it was never actually released to the public.
You got it right it's morning here.

@@DonMac oh, you must hear the song as well . I was never a big Elton John fan myself. My brother however was a Pianist and he loved Elton John but he also loved Bowie and so many punk bands. He gave me a different kind of appreciation of Elton John. I noticed when I looked up curtains, a few other bands had also covered it. The sound, the melody is so beautiful that each line becomes more powerful. The dandelion reminds me of losing someone. Ironically this song came to mind when I lost my brother relatively recently and my father who was an avid gardener. I saw my father's Garden get overgrown just after his death."" The furrows of a field not sown by anyone" as well as "a dandelion who said the time had come to leave upon the wind not to return" . My father and my brother passed away two days apart. I think song lyrics become so much stronger and times like these and again the meaning changes from person to person and Elton John's case from Line to Line. I got to say after all these years and I'm no spring chicken, I think Jackson Browne tops the list of some of the Great songwriters over time. With that said, I'm going to try to cop a few more hours sleep. I have so enjoyed our little chat here! Wishing you the very best of everything!

Boy genius and man unparalleled in heart string verse. The weeping guitar crushes the senses. A song for those who need absolution.
