This might be against the spirit of the challenge as you laid it out, but a lot of beads can be avoided by playing in two-player mode and jumping off each other's heads! This game REALLY wasn't balanced around the fact that having two players basically gives you a double jump, especially with the fact that you can instantly put player 2 away with the angel helper to avoid them collecting beads in your wake.
31:40 It's not that fight specifically. It's every fight. You just happened to have no beads on the ground at the end in all of the other fights because they despawned first.
31:50 It's been a while since I played this game, but I think you could avoid the beads here by doing extra damage cycles on the boss until it stops dropping beads, then landing the final hit.
I think you MIGHT actually be able to shake the 500 beads from Meta Knight? I could be wrong, but I believe that bosses contain a set amount of beads, meaning that if you hit them enough times, they’ll stop ejecting beads. I don’t know if it takes from their bead total when they despawn, but if it does, then you could theoretically just hit Meta Knight until he stops making beads, THEN deal the final blow
I feel like the lost beads recollecting rule is weird, I would have just had it be that if the bead count goes down in game, it does not reduce the True bead counter. I imagine it was to make it more interesting though and to make things simpler since you would only have to tally everything up by looking at the end of the level rather than going through the whole playthrough of a level
If I had to guess it was probably less for the challenge and more for the ease of knowing the amount, since there’s a bead count at the end of the level but it’s only on hand beads so pair that with different bead sizes having different amounts it’s probably just easier to rely on the end of level counter
In Blub Blub Ocean, you could've dodged the beads from the blocks you destroyed while Kirby was a dolphin. As you saw, the beads were affected by gravity. You could've just destroyed more blocks, since they don't let you smash straight on through - hitting them gives you a little bit of a stun.
for the meta knight boss (just like every boss), if you deal extra damage throughout the fight without actually moving on to the next phase, the boss eventually stops dropping beads, so you can do the final blow with no beads on the ground for the game to automatically pick up
If you get enough beads in a boss level, usually around 2k or more, you unlock a bonus level... those are completely ignored by this challenge naturally.
I would love a video about Epic Yarn's development :p (I've read the Iwata Asks interview, but there are probably more interesting factoids about the game) I appreciate title-ing this a "minimum beads" challenge instead of "can you beat the game without beads" since let's honest, if it was the latter the challenge would technically have to end at the first level and the video would just proceed as a minimum bead challenge anyways :[] Anyways, I like the video! The challenge is interesting to watch and the commentary is entertaining :)

@@blue_knotVoice is nice, really, and I’m coming out of what, 1h 30m of hearing it? I know that hearing your own voice is always strange (and I’m in the same boat, I don’t like mine), but it’s definitely far from bad (in whichever way you may not like it)
Can't you avoid the Meta Knight beads by triggering them letting them disappear and then doing it again? I shorta remember that after 3 times the bosses stop spawning beads
I thought, with as great as this video is, you would've had more than 2 videos. Watched both, this one first - both real good, gotta say. Looking forward to more, keep it up!

When we got our Wii, my uncle (who yes, works at Nintendo, not joking) got us this big bundle thingy. I remember it having the Wii, controllers, nunchucks and of course Wii Sports. But it also had this Wii + Internet thing, which had Kirby's Epic Yarn in it. That was my first ever Kirby game and I loved it. Sadly, the disc got scratched, so now any cutscene will crash the game.
At 19:55 could you go near the blocks with the beads, and charge swim up to break all the blocks causing the beads to fall all the way to the ground? So you can swim over.
awesome video, outside of but waiting for the canon beads to despawn and the meta knight beads, this was excellently done. glad to have watched both videos so soon after they came out
Nice video again! I've never played this game before, so I'd be hard pressed to find any more spots where you can avoid beads. At 14:40, I see there's another swinging mushroom that's higher up than the one you jumped from. I don't know if you can reach it (since I'm not familiar with the level), but if you can, you could parachute over the swing and completely avoid those beads. At 33:58, if you go through the canon diagonally, will you hug the wall and avoid the beads? At 35:17, when you go through the canon, you hit a (!), which triggers the blue beads to appear that you have to collect. I think, those (!)s are on a timer. If the red and orange beads after the next 2 canons are on the same timer, then they might de-spawn if you wait. Point 1 depends on the level layout and points 2/3 probably won't work, but I thought I'd comment for the algorithm at least.
People in the comments have been saying this, but yeah, that 500 Beads on Meta Knight is totally avoidable. I tested it myself - on Meta Knight's final hit, throw a yarn ball at him to make him drop the beads, but let him get back up so he can continue the fight. From here, continually waiting out his attacks and throwing yarn balls at him will result in him not dropping any more beads. You can then finish the fight bead-free.
Interesting challenge. Reminds me of the “least A presses” Mario 64 runs. (Unfortunately, due to the randomness of bead spreads, I doubt this will ever catch on as a speedrun category) I’m definitely early to this channel. Your vids are good quality, and I think the algorithm will pick them up soon. You got my sub, so keep at it! P.S. I would definitely watch a Low Bead % TAS showcase if you were to create one as a follow up. (Or maybe collab with an established TASer for that juicy cross promotion.)
Most probably that someone has said this already but I am pretty sure that by playing with two player and using the feature of one of them to jump on top of the other and then using Angie a lot of beads can be skipped. But I understand if this is a "least amount with one player" run. And, keeping it at one player, I think that at the start of Moon Base the first two beads could probably be skipped by abusing the Waddle Doo in some way. I know that the anti gravity in this game works in such a way where you can pull some weird stuff. I tried jumping while running(car) from the top of him, or by rolling him up. As shown, rolling up in this game gives you a height boost, and in anti gravity that can be abused. Even then, playing in the 3DS port I tried doing that while parachuting at the top of the jump but wasn't able to evade collecting them. However, I think that with some more strict timing something could be possible there. Also idk if damage boosting through the electric wires is possible. About Meta Knight, I think that those 500 beads can be evaded. If you hit a boss enough times without pulling the red button that degrades their health, I think that they stop dropping beads. So you could exhaust his bead drop, and finish the fight when no more beads are dropped from him. I was able to replicate this in the 3DS port; the first two hits in the red sword phase dropped beads, while the third hit dropped none though without the skill nor save states I wasn't able to do a full beadless run of the whole boss. Still he could be finished after hitting him two times before and waiting for the beads to despawn. _Probably_ the first once from Whispy's Forest could be evaded by doing something with the Waddle Dees that spawn and/or then rolling up the Bronto Burt carrying the rocket, as that may hold Kirby in the air for a while, and then parachute.
Really enjoyed the nightmare in dreamland video. 🥺 And Kirby epic yarn has always been my favorite. You and the editing are very funny!!! (Haven't finished but Is. Is that an xbox logo in the bead counter lol...)
You can skip two of the first 8 beads by jumping from the lip of the pool. My best was 48 in that level, but I thought you had to get two at the end hehehe. While I didn't have the patience to do any more than the first level, I'm glad you're doing this challenge! Loved your last vid and you've got the voice and good ideas for this format of video. Good luck!
Completely useless comment: I'd like to add that some levels in Snow Land's overworld map look like winter clothes! Cozy Cabin is a mitten, Mt. Slide is a bobble hat and the aurora above Dedede's snowman is a giant scarf! Very cute
personally. id say literally just "2635 + YinYarn" ... simply due to it being such a big diviation, and already knowing its changable. constant + x funny enough, constant can change should better route be found through the game
Seeing Epic Yarn makes me wish that Yarn Kirby had the same success as Paper Mario cause it would be so cool to have Yarn Kirby get the same level of love from Nintendo/HAL
Great video. If I could suggest an improvement, your scriptwriting could be more energetic. For example, 3 beadless levels in a row is a perfect time to say "I sure hope this keeps up" and then follow it with the boss level
i think a reasonable alternative rule on lost beads is: the goal is just to minimize beads picked up, not to minimize final bead count, so losing beads doesn’t matter in the slightest, but picking them up again after is not allowed
At about 19:59, aren't those 20 beads avoidable? You could have waited until they despawned no? At least the second one, because you didn't immediately collect it. Though these could also be non-despawners like the later beads at around 29:54, so maybe not... 21:20, actually underwater volcanos are a real thing, look them up. You'd be surprised.
( all /lh /nm) Pretty sure Fangora is a girl -_- Oh Hot Wings is ABDOLUTELY a girl she's a MOTHER Also, at the end of the day, if you thing 2-4,000 is a lot, dont worry. Dom Woole asks for... actually, idk if it's hundreds of thousands or MILLIONS of beads to add floors to the apartment, but it's so much more than 4,055! The game doesn't use commas/periods to make those big numbers easier to read -_-
This might be against the spirit of the challenge as you laid it out, but a lot of beads can be avoided by playing in two-player mode and jumping off each other's heads! @@ado- Damn you guys are good at finding efficiency!! I’m glad you enjoyed, and I’ll start a pinned comment with bead deductions!
Completely useless comment: I'd like to add that some levels in Snow Land's overworld map look like winter clothes! Cozy Cabin is a mitten, Mt. Slide is a bobble hat and the aurora above Dedede's snowman is a giant scarf! Very cute
someone remembers this game this was my childhood
This is so good! I wonder if there any challenge run for Rtdl
This was yhe 1st ever Kirby i played and my btother and i 100% completely 3 times we loved it so much
personally. id say literally just
"2635 + YinYarn"
... simply due to it being such a big diviation, and already knowing its changable.
constant + x
funny enough, constant can change should better route be found through the game
9:07 firetruck kirby timestamp
Have you tried co-op mode? Perhaps you can skip more than 2 beads at 1:49 by having one player launch the other player.
I took a while to finish watching this. You should see how many you can skip in two player
Seeing Epic Yarn makes me wish that Yarn Kirby had the same success as Paper Mario cause it would be so cool to have Yarn Kirby get the same level of love from Nintendo/HAL
based on the name of the video i thought this would be how many beads you would need to buy every item and apartment upgrade
I would love a revisited version where you try the suggestions in this comment section.
I FUCKING LOVE KIRBY'S EPIC YARN!!!! YEAH!!!!!!
this makes my brain hurt because I always collected as many beads as I could.
That blue Kirby is so... American.
Great video. If I could suggest an improvement, your scriptwriting could be more energetic. For example, 3 beadless levels in a row is a perfect time to say "I sure hope this keeps up" and then follow it with the boss level
The correct answer is "all of them". I have to collect all of them or else I have to restart the level. It's the rules.
I had the 3DS version of this and it was my favorite game before i sold my ds lmao
holy shit its called epic yarn in the story sense, not because they want you to think yarn is awesome
i think a reasonable alternative rule on lost beads is: the goal is just to minimize beads picked up, not to minimize final bead count, so losing beads doesn’t matter in the slightest, but picking them up again after is not allowed
3:18 - and immediately forgets to add it
Prob the only kirby game i played
I looove this game! TwT
Have you tried to wait until the beads disappeared before you finished off Meta Knight?
Meta Knight won't sit still. The better strategy is to hit him enough times for beads to eventually stop dropping
Sheesh....the way it was going I didn't even expect it to reach 1k....
lets go another video
11:54 beans 👍
Black, red, green, kidney, garbanzo, navy, lima…. Well they all make me very gassy… 😳
Any good challenge ideas for Kirby Canvas Curse?
thank you for not explaining what a video game/kirby is at the start of the video
At 19:57 if I'm not mistaken, those two beads would have despawned if you waited to go past the boxes?
Santa reference. I noticed it. 13:57-ish
Wow I can't believe someone actually got the reference!
Noooooooo!!!! I was working on this video 💔 but I'm doing mine in 2 player, so maybe they can both exist
( all /lh /nm)
Pretty sure Fangora is a girl -_-
Oh Hot Wings is ABDOLUTELY a girl she's a MOTHER
Also, at the end of the day, if you thing 2-4,000 is a lot, dont worry. Dom Woole asks for... actually, idk if it's hundreds of thousands or MILLIONS of beads to add floors to the apartment, but it's so much more than 4,055! The game doesn't use commas/periods to make those big numbers easier to read -_-
20:37 can't you go under the 2nd ladder to grab the one to the right of that one to skip those two beads?
