Regarding the bit about forced unnecessary backtracking - the Hammer moveset (and thus King Dedede's moveset) has a fire move. Hold UP and hit ATTACK while on the ground. Also, regarding the bomb Energy Sphere in 5-2, you can hold down the attack button to aim your bomb's throwing arc. You can check your ability's movelist in the pause screen.
Actually... King Dedede's Hammer specifically does NOT have a fire effect. Kirby's hammer does though. I'm not really sure why. Kind of like how Meta Knight combines Wing's aerial moves with Swords grounded. Bandana Dee is perfectly identical to spear though. It's an oddity like how the Smash ability in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror can do everything EXCEPT light fuses because for some reason, the hammer flip doesn't have the fire property either, and while it didn't in Melee either, Melee Kirby had the burning attack as his dash, but the Smash ability...doesn't have a dash attack at all. So yeah, Kirby has to get fire himself. I guess they didn't want the partners to cheese EVERY puzzle as Waddle Dee has long reach and both he and Meta Knight can cut and Dedede can pound stakes, but you need Kirby's whip to grab objects and .... fire....

Some notes I had about multiplayer 10:57 you can just bring the Spark ability in to get this with just one controller and one star. 16:10 Multiplayer allows you to take multiple paths. It seems daunting to test how to avoid the most Stars like that, though, for the same reason as you not going back to the Epic Yarn challenge lol. 31:11 this isn't about multiplayer but sliding through a block that contains a star doesn't give it enough time to spawn before you're already past it 31:57 i think you can have dedede hold it and offscreen him. he should keep the key. unfortunately oddly enough this offscreen trick doesn't work with the dang cleets!!! no!!!!!😂
It's a shame to hear you're not a big fan of this game, as I tend to enjoy it a lot when I play it. That said, this was still a fun video to watch! Looking forward to the next one :)

Also, 26:49 as Kirby stand on the switch, while on there you want to aim and throw the bombs in such a way you can hit the bomb block to get the sphere, thats the intended way
I think at 31:08, if you spit to the right, then break the first bottom block and slide through the rest, you may skip that bottom star in the 3x3 blocks (like what happened at 16:57). At 31:17, you may be able to get only 2 if you use a buddy Kirby to spit you in a straight line.

I totally understand the RtDL take honestly. I love the game, but it is kinda the NSMB of the series in how it’s mostly just “baseline” stuff. I do think that Deluxe is way more notable and interesting though, since it has Magolor Epilogue, Merry Magoland, and adds some of the stuff that made future games so memorable that the original lacked
Man I sure love kirby's home planet pop. Kirby also uses a warp to get around. A lot of people like the game Kirby Super and Kirby Super Ultra I took star out of these sentences in the spirit of this challenge.
6-4. SIX DASH FOUR. OH. HECK. NO. I did this challenge a few years back on my small streamer days, and my lowest score was... 53. Around 50 was my lowest estimate thanks to 6-4. For 4-1, you can skip the first cannon by spitting (yes, spitting) P1 with another player Kirby!

Honestly i also agree with your take on RTDL, one of my favorite boss lineups but I (ironically) find no real reason to return to Return to Dream Land, I think the switch version did remedy some of these issues but it's still not perfect
Yeah, I feel like Kirby RtDL is kind of like the Mario Sunshine of the Kirby games. If you had to pick the worst Kirby game, it's kind of the 8/10 where the others are 9/10 (even though I personally love Sunshine for it's unique gameplay). Return to Dreamland feels like it's missing that "something" that makes it stand out. It does have those fun challenges that really explore the mastery of abilities, but I think the lack of "rare abilities" and the fact that many of the puzzles are either solved by having Spear, or "You see this fire enemy? there's a fuse in the next room" and as such, doesn't really take advantage of gimmicks to force Kirby to solve a complex puzzle for bonuses like other Kirby games do. Nor does it have quirky abilities that are just fun to play around with because they're so rare and exotic (when WING is one of the rarest abilities in the game and it literally gives you the power to do what you already could do through the whole game....). That's what kind of hurts it. Plus the Ultra abilities were a gimmick that kind of wore out fast as all you're doing with it usually is watching Kirby destroy the landscape, but only a few times later do you really solve "puzzles' with them. Something improved on with Nova suction and especially the Robobot in later games. I think the bosses are fine, but the Sphere doomers REALLY wear out their welcome fast with how many times you have to go to the null space....
Well, bring out the pitchforks because I feel the same about the two Kirby's adventure games. They are great, have memorable levels and arguably do the whole copy ability idea better than any other game in the series due to the hyper limited utility of them pushing variety forward... but the game feels kinda scuffed being caught between the charm of previous entries and the more innovative sequels.

If it were necessary, if the bottom player jumps and the top player jumps over the bottom one's head, a step-n-jump is activated and extra height can be gained. Alternatively, you can warp players 2-4, including if they have an item. [Edit: THIS METHOD IS USEFUL FOR SOME SECTIONS]
It makes sense that some of the world names are weird They all have to be 2 words, they all have to use alliteration, they all have to be related to food and they have to spell "crowned"
If you’re looking for suggestions, I did this challenge for forgotten land (including post game) and it was one of the craziest challenges I’ve ever done. I grabbed as many collectibles as possible, but I skipped the ones that increase the counter (so I guess you could call it max % min stars). Just legalize the hammer glitch though for your own sanity.

There really were some interesting oddities in the non-Kirby player character's movesets in this game. For a bit of a comment on the video itself... really fun as always! I feel like in some parts, your obvious dislike of the game kind of brings the tone of the video down, as well as making the challenge artificially harder for yourself with some bits of game knowledge you missed. 10:34 With the correct ability, you wouldn't even have needed Player 2. Spark's up thunder goes trough the ceiling, it's even necessary for future gears. And that's just one of the abilities that could do it. Similar case for the 24:30 blocks that reappear at 32:58 (though with all the necessary underwater damage boost, not sure for that one).
The Buddy bounce be helpful, you jump under a player that falling to give them a big mid air jump. I can see 2-3 less stars if you used it. This is for the key puzzles.
27:00 you can hold the action button to begin aiming a bomb throw, and from there time a bomb throw past the gordo to hit the bomb block. ...I found this out as a young teenager, so looks like you were having an 'old man can't understand technology' moment lol

I am Thankful RTDL and superstar saga DS exists for the true arena you can do that became a series staple. I will agree that while fun, there are entries I enjoy more. Like Star Allies. Don’t judge, that was my first Kirby game I seriously sat down and played and I will defend it to my grave because of that.
Yeahhh, I agree with your point on backtracking. That’s why I have a lot of issues with Dreamland 3 (as much as I love that game). Granted, Dreamland 2 and 64 also has that issue but I feel it’s at its worst in Dreamland 3

Fun fact! Yellow Kirby is oficially known as Keeby, at least in the west. I believe this is per the dream course manual.
Yellow Kirby is not Keeby. Keeby ONLY exists in Dream Course. Every other instance is just a Kirby that happens to be the color yellow.

Return to Dreamland is SOOOO GOOD if you grew up with the Gamecube and went without a 2D console Kirby game for so long

If you’re looking for suggestions, I did this challenge for forgotten land (including post game) and it was one of the craziest challenges I’ve ever done. I grabbed as many collectibles as possible, but I skipped the ones that increase the counter (so I guess you could call it max % min stars). Just legalize the hammer glitch though for your own sanity.

For a bit of a comment on the video itself... really fun as always! I feel like in some parts, your obvious dislike of the game kind of brings the tone of the video down, as well as making the challenge artificially harder for yourself with some bits of game knowledge you missed. Spark's up thunder goes trough the ceiling, it's even necessary for future gears. And that's just one of the abilities that could do it.
Similar case for the 24:30 blocks that reappear at 32:58 (though with all the necessary underwater damage boost, not sure for that one).

The Buddy bounce be helpful, you jump under a player that falling to give them a big mid air jump. I can see 2-3 less stars if you used it. This is for the key puzzles.

I am Thankful RTDL and superstar saga DS exists for the true arena you can do that became a series staple. I will agree that while fun, there are entries I enjoy more. Like Star Allies. Don’t judge, that was my first Kirby game I seriously sat down and played and I will defend it to my grave because of that.

Yeahhh, I agree with your point on backtracking. That’s why I have a lot of issues with Dreamland 3 (as much as I love that game). Granted, Dreamland 2 and 64 also has that issue but I feel it’s at its worst in Dreamland 3
