So bbq restaurants are "new" in Finland but bbq in the summer is as old as the earth! It's the most Finnish thing after Sauna, bbq'ing on your terrace at your summer cottage after the sauna.

BBq is different than the Finnish grilling. BBQ is slow-smoked for hours and hours, the kind of grilling done after sauna is fast and grilled.

@@pamelakilponen3682 no bbq means barbeque wich means a meal or gathering at which meat, or other food is cooked out of doors on a rack over an open fire or on a special appliance.

Seemed like a relaxed and nice atmosphere there. That Long Drink was the official drink of 1952 Helsinki Olympics, so some history there too. There's this food & travel series shown on Finnish TV, in which Burgerimiehet (The Burger Men) travel and eat local burgers and BBQ in different places. This season they went to the US and traveled from Seattle to Atlanta. They try to avoid visiting the most obvious places in order to experience some of the authentic local food and atmosphere. They also record a theme song for each season while on the road, so for your playlist, here's some Country music for y'all: "Burgerimiehet ''THE BURGER MAN'' Song | Burgerimiehet Pohjois-Amerikassa". And here's a traditional Finnish "burger". Well, there's bread, meat and fire: "1000 years ago KALAKUKKO bread". Regarding that unfortunate drone accident and going even further back in time: "The myth of the Sampo- an infinite source of fortune and greed - Hanna-Ilona Härmävaara". Ahti has your drone now.

I was lucky enough to visit on the opening day in June, Savurafla Kotisaari is well worth visiting if you can get a booking, and it only operates from Mid June to late August. Lexi, the pitmaster knows his stuff. Travelling from Australia to Finland for BBQ... you bet I videoed it... lol (having eaten at most of the best BBQ places in the U.S., and having competed and taken trophies at World BBQ Championship events, this island is the real deal).

Hello Jen and Drew. Thank you for this amazing video, i live in Finland but im too busy this summer so i hope to go and check this place next summer my self. I have been in USA twice, 2016 i only was in New York so not much BBQ then, but in 2018 i stayed 4days in Tampa, then a bit over 2 weeks in Dallas and we ofc explored other places around there, before heading to vegas.
I haven't tried the BBQ at Kotisaari but i would assume it's not quite like what you have in Texas, which is absolutely crazy, i would weigh like 900lb if i lived there. When the dude said "bbq is new" in Finland he meant the american style bbq is new, because we of course have a much longer tradition than "6 years" or whatever he said, it's just way different. In Finland we grill sausages and vegetables and that goes a long way back, also smoking fish has a long tradition. "Loimulohi" which is salmon cooked on open fire, has been done probably for like hundreds of years and we still do it the same way.
I hope you enjoyed your trip to Finland, i have no idea why i got recommenended this video by youtube, maybe the algorithm can sense when im hungry! Anyway, got yourselves a subscriber!

Say Savu Rafla, its one word but still its slow enough to say em separately with a shorter brake than if it was 2 different words. Its not a speed contest. Just learn the sounds of the letters and pronounce it exactly as it reads, there's no extra sounds for certain combinations of letters like eng "motion". Then be a manly man when you speak Fin, like hard and tough not speed. Like when you speak Nor you need to be joyful and Swe a bit gay while Den you just put a potato in your mouth and speak something.
