  • @Spetulhu
    @Spetulhu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Yeah, maybe Joonas could have added some history on a few of those. Koskenkorva is a national vodka brand and the Jaloviina is inspired by the "cut brandy/cognac" of war times and after when everything was rationed. It wasn't cut with water but with added vodka (probably from the Koskenkorva factory). So you got some brandy taste from it - and all the alcohol - but it wasn't real brandy.

    • @NickandSoph
      @NickandSoph  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The history would have absolutely been a nice touch! Thank you for the brief description of Jaloviina because we were having a tough time figuring out why those things were added to one another lol now it makes more sense!

    • @TheSuspectOnFoot
      @TheSuspectOnFoot 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Jaloviina was created in 1932 so it doesn't have anything to do with the war except that during rationing the mixture was basically just vodka with a splash of cognac to give it a nicer color.

    Before Salmiakki Koskenkorva (aka. "Salmari") was brought to market in 1993, Finns had to buy candy called Tyrkish Peber made by Fazer, put all the candy in a traditional Koskenkorva bottle and put the bottle (with the cap closed, of course) into a dishwasher. If you don't like Salmari, you're probably not going to like Tyrkish Peber candy either.
    Also, what was the temperature of your drinks? I prefer having Salmari served around 2-4 °C.

    If anyone hasn't mentioned it yet; they stopped selling the black stuff because it was too popular with underage drinkers. Probably brought back because everyone just started mixing their own with candy and vodka. And underage drinking stayed the same
