  • In this video, we check out the MIDNIGHT SUN! This is a super interesting phenomena north of the Arctic Circle. In the winter, it stays completely dark for almost 40 days and in the summer, it's almost as if the sun never sets. In our video you can see us walk around Rovaniemi Finland and experience this first hand. We check out one of the best spots to view the sun. By the time we got back to our apartment it looked like the sun started to rise again. Also if you want to support us and our drone fund please click here :)

    I remember being woken up by some frantic people at the campground at a summer festival here in Norway, decided to check on them. they were freaking out because they thought they were late for a concert and couldn't find anyone. took me 10 min to convince them it was 2am and not 2pm. the concert they wanted to see was in 12 hours and they thought I was pranking them!

    In Rovaniemi, the sun stays above the horizon from early June to early July. The sun then stays above the horizon for about a month. When you go further north, the sun stays above the horizon longer. For example, in Nuorgam, which is Finland's northernmost village about 510km (317 miles) north of Rovaniemi, the sun stays above the horizon for about two and a half months, from mid-May to the end of July.

  • @pasiholtta
    @pasiholtta ปีที่แล้ว +3

    By definition, the Polar Circle is the place where there is one night every year, when the midpoint of the Sun doesn't go below the horizon. The closer the pole you are, the more there are such nights. Equally, on the polar circle, there is one day a year, when the midpoint of the Sun doesn't rise above the horizon. The Pole is the extreme. There the day is six months long and then comes the night of six months!

      Night time for 6 months?!?!? WOW… we could maybe do the day for 6 months but night? No way 😂

    When I was in Nordkapp Camping, northern Norway about 10 years ago, I was wondering that where are all the people. I saw lot of camper vehicles and tents around me and nobody anywhere. Then I realized that it was something like 2 AM and the sun was shining quite high on the sky :D

  • @kennethainetdin3401

    Remember that the time in Finland during summer is the summer time. This means, that at 24:00 the sun is at 23:00, so at twelve a clock it's not midnight.

    • @pasiholtta

      That's right, the darkest moment of the summer night in Rovaniemi is at about 1:20 am ☺

    • @Dostrain
      @Dostrain ปีที่แล้ว

      I got confused by this comment, but I guess the point was that following the winter time shows you sun's location, so 24:00 in winter time is roughly the darkest time --> 23:00 at summer time is roughly the darkest time? Anyways I agree with Pasi that the darkest moment is somewhere after midnight.

    • @kennethainetdin3401
      @kennethainetdin3401 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dostrain No no no! The normal time (winter time) is the time that goes along with the suns movements. Evidently the sun does not move, but let's say that it moves. This makes it easier to understand.At 24:00 summer time the sun has still one hour time to reach midnight. The sun is at midnight at 01:00 summer time (24:00 winter/normal time).
