I think one of the things that helped spread this hoax is that it is has seemed that for the last 2~3 years that Valve is up to something with VR, and that in 2023 the development of steanVR accelerated (definitely on the Linux side of things) (also the name "deckard" has been floating around since I think at least 2022 or so)
Oh I totally agree. There were a lot of rumors running around that a new headset was on the horizon

Hey Ash, great video! As much as I don’t want to bring up any furry drama but it’s very recent. At 1:55, the suiter in question is Doppio Amore and he is a very dangerous predator who has over 30 testimonies (still counting) against him for heinous amounts of predatory acts he would do such as assault/essaying them
They should have added a buy now button on the website that when pressed opened a TH-cam tab to rock roll 😂😂😂

Also, yes: I'd love to see that Virtualfurence vid you have on the back burner, out of curiosity as well as personal interest! I only came out of the furry closet a year ago, thanks to VR and some wonderful folks there, so I've seen the world but totally missed the event. Furality Sylva ended up being my first actual (albeit virtual) con, followed by Eurofurence as my first IRL one. It was the latter's first year at a new venue, though, so for better or worse I never got to see the Virtualfurence world sans computer and facebrick!
When i saw the little bits of promotional papers at MFF '23, i was wondering if this was some sort of weird thing, then totally forgot about it until the day of the prank, when i actually fell for it for about 15 minutes, then remembered those bits and finally realized that i fell for it. Good job to the pranksters on that!

See, the issue is that many VR headsets currently focus so much on face tracking and making faces look believable that the lip tracking doesn't sound so obscure anymore.
Realistic facial movement is probably the pinnacle of 3D animation, so anyone who knows a bit about that could easily fall for it I feel like :D

I don’t use VR or VR Chat but it’s certainly something I would try Ash. Yeah the Valve Prism is a hoax XD but good question Ash wouldn’t it be super awesome if the game production/company VALVE produce a Half Life 2 designed VR headset? Plus it’s gonna be the 20th anniversary of Half Life 2 this year XD

talking about valve prism i cant buy valve prism its expensive so i have to stay using meta quest 2 meta quest 2 has a lot feature than valve index don't give me wrong valve index is cool
