The comics usually get only five reactions at most, and I would bet money that none of the popufurs depicted even know who the guy is, which makes his perennial fuming seem just plain pathetic. I went to my very first furry convention this year (Anthrocon '23) and it was one of the best weekends of my life. Since then I spent less time doomscrolling and more time finding people I like to talk to. Maybe I'm just basing this off of my experience, but good company and a good convention can remind you how little internet bullshit matters. FFA themed a convention off of mocking people they hate online, which I think undermines the best part of a convention, or even a meetup; you go there to hang out with people offline, not to hate on people online. If I wanted to hate on people online, I would just stay at home and do that instead of buying a ticket to Oklahoma.

As a furry artist whose done a whole TH-cam video about the implications of AI Art in the furry community, even with my slightly differing views on the topic from the norm, their usage is confusing given they should have had the resources to draw up stuff themselves. Kabs is bad but they seem to draw fast. Like they could have touched up the AI renders by hand if they actually cared... Also The con is quite the joke but honestly it'd have done better if the peacewolf drama hadn't split the cult.

Their first year featured a who's who list of people who had squicked the rest of the fandom right out and barely scraped together a few hundred attendees. I think that Jasonafex and Kabier create things, not to make themselves and others happy, but because they know what they do will hurt someone. I'm sorry, but I'm drawing the line and declaring it:
I do not think any of what they have done has ever been in good faith. I think they do what they do purely because they know someone will be offended or upset, or angry, or basically react in a way where they can play the Steven He clip of "Emotional damage!" in response. Because I am 90%+ sure that is how Jasonafex and Kabier would respond to someone expressing disdain or criticism.
Those two are the humanitarian equivalent of a Justin Roiland Rick and Morty/Solar Opposites-style "Shut up, shut the fuck up, fuck off, nobody fucking likes you, you fucking piece of shit, just fuck off, nobody fucking likes you, you're fucking worthless, fuck off" type of a dunking on people tirade. Except the hypothetical example I gave, and all the times in those shows that it happens, were deliberately written to be jokes.

As a furry artist whose done a whole TH-cam video about the implications of AI Art in the furry community, even with my slightly differing views on the topic from the norm, their usage is confusing given they should have had the resources to draw up stuff themselves. Kabs is bad but they seem to draw fast. Like they could have touched up the AI renders by hand if they actually cared...
Also The con is quite the joke but honestly it'd have done better if the peacewolf drama hadn't split the cult.
Kab's art can be pretty dang nice looking honestly if they put the effort in. Which makes it so weird.

I am actually shocked they had another one. Cons are expensive to run. Their first year featured a who's who list of people who had squicked the rest of the fandom right out and barely scraped together a few hundred attendees. Considering the drama these people create and the inevitable staff changes and PR hits that come of it, I really didn't think it'd last beyond the first year. I guess there were some people there just rubbernecking back then because this year's just looks sad. 55 Attendees???
there's no way the costs of running it were anywhere near covered by it the year before, much less this year. Jasonafex et al are subsidizing their own ego trip out of pocket. And it really feels like it was thrown for them, not for the community, as their little vanity project

Usually the way it works is that a small local meet grows and grows until it becomes a convention. This might well be the first one to do the opposite and go from a convention to an annual meet. The numbers they drew this year were about the same as the biggest local meet we had where I live.

As I said in my own comment, Porter Robinson (or his record label, but probably Porter himself because the label probably had to contact him about it) decided to copyright strike and take down the video off of FFA's twitter page which I think is really really funny because it shows that Porter does NOT want to have his name associated with these people, which implies he keeps up with furry drama

From what I've gathered, it was the latter because they had no known political litmus test for people and the con wasn't overtly and explicitly political. However, it's also a lie because almost everyone who went there were right-wing and it was in effect *their* con and felt safe with that knowledge, and the "anti-cancel culture" messaging has right-wing and anti-liberal/woke connotations (though a few progressives like me abhor Twitter/cancel culture run amok).
Anyway, I'm not surprised your friends didn't like it. It had a "furry con that's ashamed to be one" sort of vibe, and generally that's a sentiment right-wing and fascist furries have.
