I just got linked to this today... but this video has some good points but I still remember his furry vs gamers video.
Petplay is an emotional stress reliever for me. Its not always sexual, it has an emotional value too.
Keep these things apart and don't try to compare them, that only grows more confusion. We as pet players are just as tired of being compared to furries as you are annoyed with us.

Much like the furry fandom, most of the focus for human pups is focused on the more eccentric pups, such as what happened with the Channel 4 documentary on us. The media likes to shine a spotlight on the worst of us and give them a bad rep just for the money. And for the people in these comments saying that human pups are cringy or stupid, don't forget that is what most people think of furries, there's no need to be like the people you hate just because someone else or a group of people is different from you. Yeah, most pups find the pup play scene a fetish/kink, but there is no need to make people feel bad about it, that's just what they choose to like, as goes for most NSFW comunities that exist.

I'm not a pup but I know quite a few and not all of them are into it for the kink side. I love this video and am so glad you really did some research into the meaning behind it all. I had no problem seeing the pups with their hoods on at MFF, they were all super friendly and liked posing for photos just like the suiters. :)
I also know one or two that wear a hood and maybe a collar, but they just like it for that, I don't think they have an "owner" but they're not exactly looking for one seriously either, heck, when I first saw a pup hood (those simple, neoprene ones), I just thought they looked cool, but yeah, I think you'll come across more lewd pups than you will lewd furries. Still, they can do what they want I guess, and if I ever went to a con, I wouldn't be too mad if some people had a pup hood on, maybe the entire gear and not much clothing would be a little much but... Yeah 😊 and personally, I think fursuits are a lil more snuggly
Thank you, Artemis. I was nervous about the title but I'm really glad this subject was addressed and that you did your research. I think one of the most frustrating things for a lot of us pups (or bunnies or kitties or any other human pet) is that even furries who are also often critisized for the life they choose to live can be so critical in turn. Thank you for trying to understand.
That's one thing I hate about this fandom, so many of them are hypocritical. They complain about being hated on by non-furries, yet will turn right around and do the exact same to furries with weirder kinks or any other group they deem to be more "cringey" than themselves.
I'm not a human pet but I am in a similar boat(AB), and I think that's one of the most annoying things. even other groups that are very criticized and put down talk down on players. Like human pets and littles/ABs to me seem like even in the outsiders' groups, we're hated on for doing something not that different or much "Worse" than furries or other groups(personally experience this with agere, pups haven't been critical to me even tho ngl i am nervous posting this) Most of them just don't WANT to understand.
Yea, it is quite shocking, at how hypocritical some furries can be. I am a furry and a pup, but when I notice how both communities act towards other fandoms, and groups, I can't help but notice how more accepting and welcoming the pup community is compared to the furry fandom

Actual pups aren't they only animal type. They're a part of a sub-group of BDSM called pet-play. There are kittens, ponies, wolves, bunnies, etc. But I'll agree they are pretty creepy looking compared to furries.

BlueSkyWolf Fish i wear a silk sock over my stump (leg prothesis) and you sweat a lot under it when your skin isn't used to it. Also you need to wash it after use or else it starts smelling. I assume it's the same deal with those leather/latex costumes

Not all people into pet play are pups, they can be any species. Kitty and pony play are also very popular. Pup Play just seems to be at the forefront and is a bit older as far as the movement goes. Saying all pet players are pups is like saying all furries are wolves, they're not.
As for the gear aspect, I actually love the feeling of both. I'm a furry with a fursuit and also a human pup with neoprene and leather gear. Fursuits, especially my fullsuit, tend to be hotter and more restrictive, while my neoprene breathes better and I can wear less while still achieving the look I want. Personally, I like the aesthetic of both for different reasons. I like cute and cuddly, but I also like the smooth, closer feel of the rubber/neoprene/leather gear. Both can be very kinky and sexual, or not. It all depends on the person.
I also happen to know some furries with "owners" or packs, who do wear collars outside of their suits as a form of additional character connection or as a show of that ownership or belonging. It really varies from person to person, and with their own levels of immersion.

While furries can be nonsexual,human pups whole bases is from the bdsm base. hence the need for collars, leashes and trainers, and why the hoods and other gear are based off the bdsm fetish wear, not the more "cuddly' and anthropomorphic visually appealing / cute fursuits.

The reason why human pups (or the Bdsm community in general) don't usually go out in public is because of Consent. If we engage in kink (or play) in public, we are violating consent for the unaware people.

One difference not mentioned is that being a pup is a gay male thing, while furries are all genders and all sexualities. I have seen the extremely rare female handler, I have never seen a female pup in the six years that I have been aware of them.

Thanks for pointing out that it's not always sexual for us pups! I have a strictly platonic relationship with my handler, and it's ONLY about the headspace and being able to be someone else for a while. Recently I've been intrigued by the furry fandom and how it builds on the same thing. Anyone got any tips for someone who's interested in getting into the fandom?
Edit: there are in different breeds within the pup community, and a lot get their hoods/oufits customized for that look. Not all choose to pick a breed, but some do, as some breeds fits their personalities best.

The word you're looking for, by the way, is 'therianthrope'. Derived from the term 'lycanthrope'. Or also, 'zoanthrope'.
It's more complicated than that.
Because you get the therians/otherkin who are claiming they are having involuntary experiences where they percieve themselves entering an animalistic state, and some of them actually 'don't' like that, apparently. Something to do with schizoaffective disorders, or past trauma, or something, that they've conflated with an animal or liminal identity.
Or the ones like me, who are also furry, and who would totes be some kind of cartoonish animagus from the Harry Potter mythos who actually assumes their animal form on top of being totes okay with the human condition and cartoonish anthropomorphs! As a person in the petplay community I will say that not every pup wears leather. There are shops on Etsy specifically for petplay who make faux fur ears and tails for all types of pet players including pups. In fact a lot of people (mostly women) are trying to take on that cutesie role in petplay. Especially with kitten play, a lot of the kitten players tend to look like nekogirls in anime

Let’s just be honest. Human Pups Play very largely into sexual things. I don’t like making generalizations because I know that people do that to Furries a lot but pups are mostly if not all sexual.
This doesn’t mean that I think that people should be able to have these strange hoods. If people want to spend their money on something that’s going to make them happy I guess I don’t really have a problem with it. However I do believe that pup hoods should be banned from Furry conventions. Or at least have time restriction on when they can be warn.
I don’t think they should be able to be worn in the middle of the day when kids can see. Same with mursuits.

Yeah, people like Leafy confuse furries for human pups, and "beasts". Most furries do NOT fuck animals, and they do not act like animals. I'm okay with people who like the fandom, I'm okay with fursuit makers(I'm sort of becoming one), and I'm okay with fursuiters who go to conventions. I'm not okay with fursuiters who go out in public because............. Why? Just fucking why? Plus, there are some furries who are "attracted" to other furries, but I really don't see why people think they are beasts. Also, yes. Furries can be pretty cringy a lot of the time, but still. They aren't really doing anything wrong. I find a lot of fursuits weird and cringy looking, but yours is fantastic! It actually has realistic proportions! Don't get me wrong, I love toony fursuits, but some people make really REALLY big ears, noses, and eyes, all at THE SAME TIME. I personally find these types of fursuits really cringy looking, but that's just me

oh my fucking god ikr. i own a fursuit that is pretty expensive, but it honestly hurts me seeing these 'human pup' things. it all seems like they were furries but didn't have the money to make a fursuit so they made this cheap ass thing out of leather. at least some fursuits can be cute and well made, and some can be terrifying and even robotic. the human pup's costumes sometimes don't even seem to fit over their whole body or cover their face.. i mean c'mon..

i was comparing the price of pup-gear to fursuits, sorry for not explaining that well.
some fursuits go well over five thousand with quality fur and good design, and those numbers can go up depending on the detail. autumnfallings is one expensive brand of fursuit makers- and their prices go well over the roof. i don't hate them, but the way some of them just act so 'sexual', and have such bad 'pup gear' it's honestly cringy, but you could say the same to fursuits, as some are pretty much horrifying and will literally scar you. i just feel like pup-gear is an alternative to owning some kind of furry gear, i guess? also, most of the human pup's designs are just.. not clever. everywhere i've looked, it's mostly just dalmations..
remember, it's just my personal opinion. if anyone's actually into this stuff, it's fine, i just prefer to not look into things like this.
