    I don't get the same competitive experience I get in iRacing or LFM, but this is my go to game when I just want to chill and enjoy a very nice looking game with good FBB and content variety. The multiplayer experience is lacking a lot, but with people like you doing lobbies all the time, the game is totally worth it. Thank you for making AMS2 multiplayer a better place, I mean it

    Being a VR enthusiast there's nothing better than this Sim. To the point of investing in a 4090 to showcase the sheer beauty. Never really understood the complaints of realistic handling as imo no sim will replace the reality of seat of the pants irl driving. The only criticism being the public lobby, but since discovering you and racing in the Sim Pub community that's become a real pleasure too... So thankyou for all your efforts Metz. Much appreciated.

    Talking about the little things there is one stunning detail that slipped out of the radar of all these sim influencers. We all know that ams2 has simulated turbo, right? When you hear this the first thing that pops in your head is something about the damage model right? There is more to that. I actually experienced this for the first time in one of your lobbies Metz. The race was Classic F1 at Imola. We was wheel to wheel with Bulldogs. He was in the lead. When we was exiting one of the slower corners I was right behind him and than I saw it. You can visually see the car clutch in and the big turbo lag hit. The car just slow down in between shifts in low gears when you're feathering the throttle to not throw the rear out . Watching it from a side, perfectly in sync with the gear shifts, sounds and all that. You see how the car loosing and gaining momentum because of the shifts and the lag that occurs. It was so real man! Seeing it in a close pumping race, wheel to wheel was something different. I was blown away.
    When I think about it now, these cars were a great example actually, because of all raw power but extreme turbo lag. I'm not sure that you can experience this against the AI tho, because of their simpler physics model.
    Great review, Metz! Keep up the good work! Cheers!

    I said this in another video, but I feel like with every physics update, the cars feel a bit closer to the road. I think just a tad bit more feeling in how the tires are interacting with the road, a bit more *scrub*, and AMS2 will be right there with the major sims. I've upgraded to DD several months ago and the best FFB out of the box was AMS2, it's actually pretty great, really substantial, but also decently detailed. I think I can say that it was the easiest to dial in to get it feeling really comfortable, I feel like it's right behind Assetto Corsa as far as my favorite FFB.

    Same experience for me, AMS2 gathered dust for the past year. Saw the race craft online thing happening, jumped back in and am loving it. I feel it's slightly more forgiving than iRacing, maybe just easier to catch slides with the better FFB. Loving the variety as well. This alongside RF2 are now my go to sims. Super impressed and if the mP gets better ( which it is ) this could really increase the profile of the game. I get fed up of iRacing as well, AMS2 just seems less stressful.

His go was over, (he was fine btw) I crash 50 times, just have another go. As close as I’m likely to get to real racing. Not the same, but in some ways better. No sub for the feeling of real torque and power.

    I've been saying this for years, even during pCars 1 _development_ that the main reason people think pCras 1/2 (and now AMS2) is "slidy/feels like a boat" is because of how they've implemented the 3D view. The way it works in pCars1/2/AMS 2 (Madness Engine in general, it was a problem already in the SHIFT 2 game) is that the absolute _center_ point of your screen is "glued" to the center and the whole image "rotates" around that center. Basically the player view is never untethered from the center, meaning you never get a true feel for sideways movement in the 3D world. You are always fixed around the center point no matter what is actually happening in the physics/the car movement. The player view always "rotates" and is stuck to a fixed point center. This is also why people usually suddenly start "feeling" the physics properly when using VR headsets. Also which it helps tremendously to get rid of all the G-force visual effects as that minimizes the tethered center rotation, but it does NOT remove it. If you slide a car sideways in pCars your visual center point is still stuck to the infinite horizon, the view never moves properly in 3D space.
    It's a bit hard to explain but basically think of the cockpit view on a flat monitor as not actually being in the represented 3D world. The cockpit itself and the 3D model _is_ in the 3D world and moves about but not your actual center point of the screen. The center point of your screen is basically stuck and never moves about with the physics/car movement, the cockpit does, the 3D car model does.. but not your screen.
    I have no idea why they don't fix this. It's been a known issue since SHIFT 2 (first iteration of the madness engine) but very few people seem to understand the significance of this. One of the first 3D cockpit version of Jeff Crammonds F1 series had this same system/issue whereas Dave Kaemmer of iRacing/Nascar/indycar fame was one of the first to have a "true" 3D view, there the players center of screen followed the physics/car movement.. sliding and rotating the car actually also rotated the center point of the players image properly within the 3D space.
    So yeah, I hope Reiza can somehow unlock this age old problem of the Madness Engine and finally give it some flat screen love.

    I bought Ams2 not long after it's release, it didn't have much content and was generally a bit rough, but Reisa have worked hard, it now has some great content, interesting and varied cars, stunning visually and for someone not bothered about online racing, i think it's a better buy than AC. The weather model is one of if not the best. The ffb, well I've been out of sim racing for almost two years due to injury and the health complications associated with the injury, anyway easing myself back in and the ffb (default) feels ok, I've never really felt anything that I thought odd, it's not in the same league as rF2 but it's great fun, perfectly good enough to have an immersive and enjoyable experience racing against the AI. I hope Reisa get the multiplayer sorted for all the online racer guys n' gals,. The visual effects are some of the best, which off itself adds to the immersive experience. Thanks buddy, need more positive reviews like this, Ams2 deserves a look, if you're an offline racer especially you should check it out (demo on Steam so you can try before you buy) have a gander, do a few laps and you might jump realise that you're missing out.

    Graphics are great but the handling is up and down and thats what counts for me. You really have to get the right car. RF2 handles so much better with greater detail. Feel that detail on long beach , as nothing in AMS2 is close.

    • @metzVR
      @metzVR  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      handling and such is completely subjective, i agree that out of the box ams2 leaves a lot to be4 desired but once it's dialled in, imo, the handling is as good as other sims out there. my opinion of course.

    i have many hundreds of hours of iRacing, ACC, AC, RRE, and AMS2. Yet, AMS2 remains my favorite. Best tyre slip angle, best choice of unique cars and tracks. It needs more work on the MP experience, but the FFB/Physics are my favorite.

      If i were in your position, i would buy the base game firdt, and from one of the cdkey sites, for around a tenner! or, wait for a steam sale and do what i did and buy the lot for around 60 quid. season pass and all. absolutely worth it in my opinion, it's a fanastic game and for VR is probably the best out there. i've just upgraded to a Moza R9 from a t300 and the ffb is on another level. i love rthe sim :)

  • @omni7173
    @omni7173 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think all simracers allready have Automobilista 2, so it's not a question to buy it or not. So the question is can AMS 2 became best simracing title? That game needs to be the best?
    Now most players do not consider the game to be the best, putting forward two arguments. The first and indisputable argument is a weak multiplayer. I fully agree with this argument, but Reiza could improve it very easily. I will write about how to do this below in this comment.
    The second argument is physics. At first, most riders thought she was generally bad, now they say that she is slightly "not like that" or that she has certain problems. Firstly, physics will continue to improve, and secondly, all sim titles have obvious problems with physics. In the end, you need to get used to physics in any simulator, but you get used to it if you like the game. So physics is not a problem at all, you need to make it interesting to play the game.
    As for the multiplayer, Reiza promised to improve it dramatically this year. I don't know why they're taking so long, they need competitive multiplayer, which AMS1 never did.
    But to make a multiplayer can be very simple. The game already has a normal rating calculation.
    You just need to reset the rating of all players, and run a few dedicated servers at the top of the server list, where a rating race is launched every hour. All other players should be allowed to create only unranked matches. This job could be done by one person in a couple of days.
    I don't know why they don't do this, I'm going to suggest it to them on the forum.
    With good multiplayer and later with promised good carrier mode it will be, with no doubts, best simracing title.

    • @metzVR
      @metzVR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      completely agree, a few ranked races every hour or so would be awesome. anything along those lines will be a good start. even like ACC's competition servers.

    • @omni7173
      @omni7173 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@metzVR I was discovering AMS2 and project cars application programming interface and it's well developed, just have some bugs. This things, that i'm suggesting can be done easyly and run with no problems. I don't have an account on the Reiza forums, but i'll prepare my post about multiplayer and maybe you and members of your community will support my request. I'll post it on your discord channel first.
      Speaking about hosted multiplayer sessions by the users - this is not peer-to-peer connection. Lobby hoster just creates some list of rules, after which dedicated server on Reiza side runs the session.
      So if it is any lags, it's not a problem when some hoster have bad connection or something. It is some problems on Reiza server.
      A curious detail, I noticed that these servers are most likely located somewhere in Russia or Belarus. Perhaps the responsible admin from there placed them where it was more convenient or cheaper for him.
      I'm from Russia myself, and it looks like I'm the only one who always has a green ping, well, it also happens to guys from Scandinavia. But Brazilians have a ping of about 380, Americans have about 200. I mean, if you place a rating server somewhere in New York, everyone will have a nomarl ping and there should be no lag if you rent a computer for 5-10 simultaneously running servers for 100 bucks a month. There is also a problem when the game does not start after qualifying, but it usually starts after several races in a row in the same lobby.
      In short, we need a server and a simple script that would run several lobbies every hour, after which it would be reset and run again. At the same time, the rank would be considered as it is now, the sаfety rating too. Some lobbies could be made available upon reaching a certain rating in the some basic regular series with slow cars.
      Sorry for my english, i can write by myself but use google translate for long messages.

    I never really liked AMS 2. I always found the online empty and the single player experience to be bad with the state of the AI. I would just do laps around Nords in a few cars and that was it. Since joining the racing with this community its opened my eyes to what it has to offer. I've driven many cars I haven't before and so far enjoyed them all. Gone are the days of the bouncy handling and floaty feeling. IMO it has the best FFB, graphics, weather, and day night transitions. If I want to jump in my sim its normally AMS2 that I play now. If Reiza can fix some of the issues with the game it could really take it to the next level. Basically trying to say, racing with this community is turning me from a AMS2 hater to a fanboy.

With the 1.4 (I think) update to the handling it really did make a difference to the game. I still didn't really enjoy it for the reasons mentioned. In the short time I have been racing with you guys it is turning me into a fanboy though. Guess some influencers can make me change my decisions 👍You have a great community going Metz. Playing in VR a lot, this is my go to game, even though the handling feels a bit more arcade-ish than many other titles out there. One of the reasons I keep going back to AMS2 are the graphics and FPS. Other racing sims often struggle to keep a solid 60 FPS at ultra settings on my PC, where AMS2 will give me a solid 90 FPS at 4K in VR ... I must say I use OpenComposite / OpenXR with it, which really helps, but the difference is so great compared to other games it's ridiculous. Thanks again for your tips during your streams, keep it up!

    I really love all the cars and track as options. But almost everything a tried was hmpf. And truckracing is impossible with even standard settings. Cant take a single corner even in lowest gear. And i bought it as specially for truck racing. Worst 110euros i ever spent. Back to ACC.
