This is the first 'complete' HORROR AT SEA collection, which has been released on other platforms, including Audible and Spotify. To synchronise with those platforms, the old HaS volumes here on YT have been relabelled WEIRD SEA STORIES. The whole thing was getting a bit confusing!
I just LOVE this! Thank You, Jennifer and Ian, for doing such a great job with these stories! Even though I have heard most of them, listening to ALL without interruptions is definitely in my future.
I love the over the top Prussian nationalism in "The Temple"'s protagonist. I wonder if it's a satire or admiration on Lovecraft's part, but it feels like he had some fun writing those lines, which are perfectly delivered by Ian here. Also from the philosophical angle, it's interesting how that nationalism sort of gives strength to the captain in the face of unknown horror. He's by far one of Lovecraft's most interesting protagonists and the toughest ones too. As a reader I felt some kind of respect to this character (and I'm Polish so I wouldn't say that lightly about a German)
He is definitely a comical character. Probably one of my favorites in Lovecraft's stories. Prussia was always known for its military excellence and discipline so he was definitely influenced by that haha
Wonderful, all my favorite maritime stories together in one go...... Here in the Netherlands we have our canon of seafarers who started as Cabin boy and through study first became Helmsmann and ends by becoming Captain of his own three masted Ship. And then there is the book The Cabin boys of Michiel de Ruijter. Which centers around Hoorn (where I live) but in those days Hoorn was directly connected with the North Sea. My city has a long history with the sea. It's one of those cities who were flourishing in the time Holland was a republic, not a monarchie with a Parliament. Anyway, thanks for this one Ian and Jennifer. Love your stories. As always All the best from......?
You know, I really didn't assume that amount of goo/mold/sludge stories. Not even complaining, but not what I imagined. Old sea legends are mostly about fearsome creatures of the deep, modern horror, inspired by Lovecraft or not, is usually about whatever creatures might hide in the deep, but more than 1/3 in and it's mostly rot.
Well....there goes my weekend! It is all Ian's fault! This retired sailor will enjoy these. These are fantastic. We start off with one of the finest tales written by one of the greats! Thanks for putting these fine stories together! Fantastic narration (that is a given).
Since he'd been an officer on commercial sailing ships, you can't beat Hodgson for sea stories. Maybe if he'd served in the Roayl Navy rather than the Royal Artillery, he might have survived WW1.
It's kinda cool that Lovecraft put Atlantis off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula because it once stretched all the way to Cuba and there's this weird anomaly that looks like pyramids down there (off the west coast of Cuba) Who knows how much that image was doctored but I'm dying to know if it's real. Awesome things have been built before the end of the ice age so it's not too absurd.
The Night Ocean portrayed with an amazing accuracy my state of mind for these last months. Uncanny, really. I wish I could convey with words, feelings as such, as did the authors of that amazing tale of the banality and fragility of our place in the universe.
Dude these need to come more often. The only stories i listen to are sea monster and ocean mysteries focused. Its the only thing im afraid of, the ocean. Ive been deployed 4 times to 4 different countries. I was a force recon Marine 0317 MOS. Thats a scout sniper for the uninitiated. Ive seen and done things that would make most lose their minds. I fear no man no matter who he is. But i fear the deep sea and what may lie within, unknown. Thats where the fear comes from. The unknown. Men, for the most part, are all the same. No matter how hard they are when you start showing them pieces of themselves they cave. A creature that can have limbs cut off and keep fighting, thats a force to be reckoned with. A horse of a different color so to speak. Not only that but i cant imagine a worse death than death by arthropod. The sucker lousy tentacles, that beak just gnawing at your face....good ghandi. I dont like it one bit. But how i love listening to stories about it.
Oh, this will be good ! I only live a mile from the sea ( I used to live a LOT closer to it many years ago ), so I like these sort of stories. Plus it's got 3 of my favourite stories by Mr Hodgson' ! Just the thing to listen to in bed !
Thanks -- it does indeed skip. This has happened a few times recently. I think I might need to take a look at my file export settings. I've corrected the Bandcamp release, but I can't change it here unfortunately.
some of these stories are real duds...boring dozey droning clunkers....about half of these stories involve some elements of horror and sort of fit thematically together in a loose way......but you could do a much tighter job of curating your content....length isn't everything.
The collection was assembled for other platforms initially, but I know that lots of our listeners enjoy these long form videos, so here it is. Can’t like ‘em all.

saving this for a Friday night..
I think about midnight is the best time..

us feel more isolated..
Thanks in advance, nightmare fuel for the next month😂
I just LOVE this! Thank You, Jennifer and Ian, for doing such a great job with these stories! Even though I have heard most of them, listening to ALL without interruptions is definitely in my future.
Thank you for all of these videos. You've really kindled my love for classic horror.

Definetly, I had some laughs listening to it. It's also an interesting premise - real world militarism and nationalism vs lovecraftian horror
Thanks for releasing this full collection! You rock!.
I'm excited to listen!
It's taken me a bit to get through the wonderful collection of sea stories. Excellent narration. Thank you so much ❤🤗🌟
Wow, what a treat! It will take me the whole weekend to get through the whole collection but I'll start in now. 😎👻🙏

The Lure of Atlantis might be about one of the most embarrassing simps in horror history.
I love the ocean stories. ❤
I mean, I love all the stories, but for some reason, the ocean stories really hit home with me. 😀
Me too they are very fun and interesting
Thanks so much for this! I didn't realise how much I needed nautical horror, cheers ❤
Many thanks as always Ian!!!!😊

Is there any particular story here that is represented by the thumbnail? It looks terrifying, and I need to hear that one first!
Nope! Just a generic 'sea horror' image.

If nautical nightmares be something you wish!
SpongeBob SquarePants!
Then drop on the deck and flop like a fish!
:D Sometimes I just randomly say "You fool! Warren is dead..." Haven't done it in front of anyone yet
You're not alone.. I say it _way_ too often but not in public, yet 😅
It's hard to explain to my wife that one of my favorite things starts with, "Warren is dead!" :)
You fool!
Horrible babble in da house 🎉🎉
Twice weekly releases??

You fool! Warren isn't dead.
He's just doing 2 years in Armley, for posting a meme on Facebook.
I’m not sure if it’s on my end, but I think the audio skips at 43:03?
Thanks -- it does indeed skip. This has happened a few times recently. I think I might need to take a look at my file export settings. I've corrected the Bandcamp release, but I can't change it here unfortunately.
@@HorrorBabble no worries! I know it’s hard to review these longer ones
