The last word in ' The Interloper ' sent a chill through me that no horror story since childhood has gotten to me and I'm nearin 70

On one hand, it was such a beautiful story. I am listening to it thinking i wish we could solve our political differences like this. And on the other... that last word my friend! Oh that was horrific! But how else do you end a generations long family feud. We fight over the dumbest of reasons, and then that final word comes into play.

If it weren't in this collection, I may not have even realized it was a horror story until that last word... what an artfully written short story

Gotta admit, every time I listen to these I again realise what a truly superior writer Bierce was. What language, what economy, what originality, what creepy yet novel implications, developments, ending... Gorgeous and underappreciated writer.

I so often start listening to your different tales but don't fine them enjoyable. This collection, however, is great!
I especially liked the second story, The Interlopers. I follow Buddhism and often wonder why people put so much effort into hating others. I didn't expect the ending at all but it reverberates how hate is such a useless primitive emotion. It's relegated to the reptilian part of our brain. People who use their advanced brain take responsibility for their thoughts and actions.

I only comment here with reluctance, but will anyway because this information may be of interest to both listeners and to our narrator.
The phrase "...this side of the Mountains of the Moon" sounds figurative and an exaggerated catchphrase, but there is a small range of mountains (hills to some perhaps) near Mount Saint Helena.
As to the mountain itself, the highest point in that portion of the coastal ranges and just worthy of the characterization, and its pronunciation--- this is something only a local or frequent visitor to the area might be aware of.
Pronunciations in California, with its mixed cultural and linguistic heritages, are random and dependent upon local history and custom: varying from butchery through strict conformity to origination.
In this particular case, the name of the mountain and its namesake village is pronounced "Say-nt Hel-ay-na", not "Sant Hel-uh-na".

Horror Babble. You guys need better Merchandise. T-shirts sell. Different patterns of Skulls. A picture of H.P. Lovecraft. (I couldn't stop myself from buying a T-shirt from the Man, Stephen King has taken so much from.) Algernon Blackwood, same & I never heard, or read Stephen King giving any credit to those he stole the best material from. Instead, King praises Authors like Shirley Jackson and other Writers, who really had no influence on King. I realized that the hack known as Dean Koontz, most likely threatened to expose Stephen King & that's why Stephen King allows Koontz to steal his material, then is flexed to endorse Dean Koontz awful stories. Dean Koontz is the most overrated Horror writer of all time. Stephen King's Son, Joe Hill King is running a very close 2nd. I think he writes like a moderately talented 6th Grader. Now the other kid wants to be a Horror writer. A true Writer doesn't choose to be a Writer. He is born a Writer and he, or she must write, or go insane. (Paraphrased from a Statement from Stephen King.) I guess, this doesn't apply to his spoiled sons. He should not let them ride his coat tails like he does. It's not fair to anyone; the misled reader, & most of All the two spoiled brats. A Father should be honest with his children. We all know that if Joe Hill King was an ordinary guy, he wouldn't even try to make it as a Writer. He would starve. Same with the late Comer, Owen. Fame and Fortune are just too tempting to those with no ethics or honor. Naomi, God Bless you.
