- Desserts that are refreshing pair best with BBQ. Especially in the summer time. My Granny made Pineapple Upside Down Cake for me all the time growing up. I love cooking this easy dessert outside on a pellet grill because everything tastes better when you cook it outside. This dessert is so easy, as all you have to do is be able to read the instructions on the store bought cake mix.

Matt, I'm laughing my butt off with the bourbon comment. Wasn't expecting that response! Thanks for a great laugh!
Bourbon, brown sugar, pineapple!Fantastic summer time treat
So good!
I made this recipe for a dinner party and it was a huge hit i took two left over slices to a friends the next day and they were raving about for days
Best dessert ever
So cool seeing you use our milk! Thanks for supporting our local family.
Had the whole menu for the 4th ready, and now i got the dessert also. Thanks, Matt, happy 4th brother.
I made this yesterday. I used two boxes of cake mix. But made it according to this recipe, bourbon and all. Had friends from church over. This cake was a hit.
I made this yesterday and it turned out great. I did substitute the ½ cup of bourbon with ½ cup of spiced rum and added a little more brown sugar. This will definitely be my go to dessert.
I love this!!!!!!!!!!
I just made this cake. Unbelievable. So easy and so good. The recipe online calls for a 9 inch cast iron skillet though. I used a 12 inch and it barely held all the cake batter. Maybe a typo on the website. Regardless, this may be one of the best cakes I've ever had. Used Buffalo Trace bourbon and added a couple of tablespoons of the pineapple juice. AMAZING.
This recipe is amazing! Made one last weekend that was devoured by everyone very quickly!
I like to use spiced rum in mine. The spice from the rum blends really nice with the brown sugar and pineapple
Sounds delish!
The wife and I made this recipe for our family’s Fourth of July party and everybody loved it! We even used a different yellow cake mix but kept the same recipe from the video and it turned out awesome!
I made it yesterday. I used two boxes of cake mix. Made three cakes and they were awesome.
“I don’t think Dolly is to scale…”
😂
That Rolex root beer fits in perfect in the BBQ world. My favorite color way of the GMT lineup!
My fav watch.
I substituted blackberry crown royal for the bourbon and it turned out AMAZING! Highly recommend
That looks great! The wife and I cracked up at the bourbon comment! Great video as always!
Cheers!!
One if not my favorite kind of cake. They're so delicious.
The bourbon was a nice touch, sounds really good! Happy 4th to you and yours, Matt!🍻
Thanks man! Once again you got me cooking! This is my all time favorite cake too! Grew up having it for my birthdays!
I’ve been doing this recipe for a couple years now. The only difference is, mine calls for water not milk, I use all the juice from the pineapple can, cup of bourbon the fill the rest with water to make the 2 cups of liquid. Comes out great every time. I also use a chunk or 2 of pecan.
My mom in Houston would make me these cakes for MY birthday, too, Matt!! Love your simplicity. I will share with my buds.
My birthday is July 3, and I always asked for this for my bday...I will try to do this on my big green egg.
Lovin that Roosevelt!
I'm glad its not private anymore. Always a good day when meat church drops a new video.
If it was private, no one could see it. :)
@@MeatChurchBBQ when I got the notification the first time. It was a private video. ;)
What? I watched this video yesterday.
@@kenttheboomer721haha me too
So I just made this, the bourbon is a really good addition to this, my 11yr old love it.
I love your videos! I like seeing another dessert thrown in, I made the pecan cobbler and it was a hit. Your videos have helped me become the envy of the neighborhood! Please keep them coming.
That is why I do it. Thanks for sharing!!!
I hope to be able to dig this up after I get home from Van Couver Island on a vaca with our little grands! I think that will be a winner, Matt!
I like that you do all the courses of the bbq meal. Great stuff man. Oh and I am a director of a church camp in Texas and my daughter was sitting next to me while I was teaching a Bible class and she tapped my shoulder and said “look at John’s shirt.” John was wearing a Meat Church shirt and I was like, why don’t I have a Meat Church shirt…🤦🏼♂️
We made this on the 4th of July. It was absolutely delicious! Thank you Matt!
Great to hear!
Matt, I love the way you think!
Thanks!
Wow! I do not consider myself a baker but I can do that. Thanks for showing us how to do it.
I made this a week ago on my Kamado Joe, with the same cake mix and followed the recipe exactly. Everything came out exactly as in the video, but the cake was REALLY dense, and had this "eggy" texture, and I didn't pick up the bourbon flavor at all despite using a half cup of Pendleton Midnight. I could only find the cake mix at Walmart, so I bought two boxes. I'll remake it again, but with one less egg in it than what the recipe on the box calls for.
Peach or apple cobbler sounds like a winner
Looks amazing. Love the bourbon addition.
Great summer/4th recipe idea, and of course everything is better with a good bourbon!
I’m going to be the one upside down after making this. Can’t wait to make it!
Rockin' the RSVLTs.
Score this A+ definitely going to make it
I hope you enjoy. Thank you for being here!
Yah I’m definitely making this asap
Enjoy!!!!
I told my wife to make it for me for my birthday on the 8 of July cant wait to taste it
Love your recipes and tips…doing some pulled pork this weekend “making it my own” as you say along with your chocolate pecan cobbler and smoked baked beans….thanks again.
That was my mothers favorite birthday cake!🎂
That's one of my favorite cakes!
Thanks for sharing Matt 🤝🤝
Trying this on the 4th 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Enjoy and keep me posted!
Yet another great video. I just got an old skillet from my mother. Gonna give this a whirl.
Great job
Made this and it was a huge hit.
LOVE THAT!
Love this video, Matt. My mother(RIP)would make pineapple upside down cake for just about every get together...😋
I love that. Good memories.
Awesome. Have never thought about adding bourbon. Interesting. Always enjoy your videos.
I appreciate that!
That's a fantastic looking dessert. Cheers, Matt! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️
Thank you!!!!!
Great video! Love pineapple upside down cake. Happy 4th of July!
Same. Happy 4th!
Pretty cool…thanks Matt!
I have that same exact pan, I used the recipe by the book, but I had way too much cake batter. I saw that yours fit in the pan with no issue…. I dumped my batter in the pan and it filled my pan to the top. Needless to say, it bubbled over and it took mine about 1.5 hours to get done. I used 1 cup milk 1/4 cup bourbon and 1/4 pineapple juice. I used the house oven to give it my first try and I must say it was damn good. Just enough bourbon to taste it but not to much to overwhelm it. I will do this again and cook it on my drum tomorrow or Sunday. Great recipe. Quick and easy.
Did you use a hot cast iron pan or cool?
My Mamaw always made pineapple upside down cake growing up in Garland...it must be a southern/Texan thang...great recipe, thank you Matt, Happy 4th of July
I love that. My granny in Alabama made it for me.
Thanks Matt. Going to add this to my MC recipes
You have to!
That looks delicious!!!
Thank you!!
Looks Amazing!! Happy 4th!
Happy 4th!!
I'm looking forward to this one!!
I hope you enjoy it!
Seeing that cake cook up in that skillet makes we want to see a Tex-mex or bbq cornbread cooked on the smoker.
Im gonna try this tomorrow....Thanks
I would be interested in seeing spme type of Apple Cobbler on the smoker.
Looks so delicious
Glad to see some of your "non-meat" recipes. You have plenty of grills to have several fired up at once. But how would you cook a whole meal on a Weber kettle? Not me. I have one 22" Kettle. So, the meat course is something I usually do low and slow. What would you do after you take off the meat (brisket/tri-tip, ribs, etc.) and move on to other items? When switching to grilling some vegetables and other food (read NOT SLOW) items, I have difficulty getting the second stage right when switching to gears while the meat is resting. How do you go from a two-zone setup for the meat to a one-zone setup for the rest?
Let's see a peach cobbler!!!
Added to my list.
Awesome!
My Grandmother was a Betty Crocker test kitchen back in the 1930’s My Dad told me he loved her baking Im71 yrs old now I think you would make Betty Proud got this video saved to repeat
I’m doing a smoked cheesecake for the 4th but I may add one of these as well.
I changed out cherries with pecans! Oh so good!
Nice! I love people making recipes their own.
Great video... Keep up the good work...
Thanks, will do!
Looks. Amazing. I’d love to see you guys do a banana pudding or peach cobbler.
Banana pudding is in the pipelline.
Hey how about recipe list for your favorite mixed drinks and bourbons. It would be fun to watch you mix up and put down a few dozen adult mixers.
Can I see a banana pudding recipe next? I love banana pudding.
My dad use to make this for me as a kid in his cast iron skillet
Love it!
I got a bottle of Jim bean Apple I use for bourbon chicken I might mix into this one
Tasty!
G'Day Matt.
First off I love watching your videos, so enjoy your sense of humor and your presentations.
I loved the simplicity of this dessert and will add it to the list of things to try to make. And yes i will make my own by using Rum instead of Bourbon. Maybe a cherry liquor with Cherry pellets
I love your advice and appreciate the time taken to create these videos you make for us.
I was looking at what smoker to buy when i stumbled onto your channel and watched a clip with you and Chad Ward smoking on a Traeger Timberline XL.
I had been looking at the Ironwood XL and after your video i was sold on the Ironwood and so to was my wonderful wife Jodie.
Jodie and I use your videos as guides as we are absolutely rookies when it comes to smoking. pretty much 100% success so far.
So love our traeger so much, am having serious heath problems at the moment(which i intend to beat) and your Vids help take my mind off them and relax. Thank you for that
I was wondering if you have done a Veal Rib Rack.
I'm going to try doing one starting tomorrow morning for dinner at around 6:00 pm. and thought i'd do it similar to the Texas Sugar Dry Ribs video.
I would really enjoy your take on doing similar ribs.
I have managed to find a source for some Meat Church Rubs and have Voodoo, Texas Sugar, Honey Bacon BBQ and Honey Hog BBQ.
Cheers from Jodie and Bruce from Down-under In Australia
Matt, what about using Tennessee shine company moonshine Cherry's or pineapple?
I want that shirt when im drinking my Old Fash!!
Dang, that looks legit! Surprised you didn't use the Luzardo cherries in the pineapple. Definitely be giving this one a try.
They were all in my old fashioneds. ;)
That looks great!
It was!
Nice can't wait to try it.
Hope you enjoy!
Would love to see you make bread pudding
I freakin LOVE pineapple upside down cake. Pursuit bourbon: tell me more. Give me a favor profile. Also; 100% agree: I hope it doesn't cook down and puts my kids to bed.
Look up its awards......VERY good. Epecially the double oaked.
Miss my mom's pineapple upside down cake
Look so delicious
Insanely good.
lol did Sam dirty in this one 😂
Just threw this oldie on the grill.
Pineapple Upside cake is one of my favorites. I'm definitely trying this one. I've got 12 pounds of fresh peaches. Wonder how that work in place of the pineapple. Peaches and bourbon don't sound like a bad combo.
Testing this out RIGHT NOW!!!!! Hopefully it comes out good, I didn't read the box of yellow cake before I bought and it said one cup of water. So I used two boxes so I did 3/4 bourbon and 1 cup and 1/4 bourbon. Hopefully this all evens out man
Hope it was great!
@MeatChurchBBQ what's up brother!!!!! It turned out GREAT. Learning from the best 👌👌
Is that a Ron Swanson shirt? Holy crap, I need one!
Yes it's a RSVLTS shirt.
@@MeatChurchBBQ I can't believe I've never seen that before. Nice find! And I am now off to the store to get stuff for pineapple upside down cake for tomorrow...
Great video and Great recipe ! Where did you get that Awesome shirt ?
Is the shop open on the 5th? Called the shop twice but no answer
Matt, was that whole milk? That cake will be an amazing addition this week.
Love the kid comment.
If you can get some, the Pursuit distillery only release double oak would go really good in it. It’s very vanilla/carmel forward (way more than their standard). Fell in love with it when I was there for a barrel pick (actually picked 3). As a side note, would love the see a bourbon and bbq collab between you and @Brewzle.
I'm in an investor in Pursuit and the Double Oaked is my favorite!!!! SO GOOD!!

@@MeatChurchBBQthis was us at the barrel pick. Did the whole shebang experience in the morning, and picked 3 barrels in the afternoon.

Such a cool experience!
Definitely the best “bottle your own” I’ve done so far
Make a bourbon sugar glaze with a splash of vanilla and pour it on after it is cooked. The glaze should be sugar heavy enough that it crystallizes over time.
If you're going to do a thang, do the thang all the way.
My mawmaw used to make a rum cake every Christmas. When she pulled it out of the oven, she poked holes in it and and poured raw rum all over the top. All of us kids loved that cake. 🥴
Think you might do a beef belly recipe sometime
Going camping this weekend, wonder how tough it would be to make in a Dutch oven over actual coals? I’ll let ya know!!
When can we get a full tour of the features of the outdoor kitchen?
Maybe after it cools off.
Matt, I used pinnapple rum and may even kick it up a notch next time and use both pinnapple rum and Blue Chair coconut cream.
Heck yes!!!
Years ago, there was a BBQ joint in Oklahoma City called Leo’s. They made a killer cake that had a banana pudding frosting with strawberry slices baked into the cake. You had to get there early if you wanted a slice. Not sure how it would do on a smoker, but it might be worth a try.
Dang that sounds insane!
Can we get a video on Party Ribs? Interested on your take.
Not a huge fan, but maybe.....
Oh yeah!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Cheers!
