    Is it weird that I actually get sad when I see the Byzantine empire lose territory and get happy when it gains territory. Idk why but I've always been interested and fascinated by the the fact that such a great empire that has had a massive effect on the world and the successor of the Roman Empire is hardly known. I have always been taught that the western Roman Empire fell and that was the end of the Roman Empire. I never knew about the Roman Empire that lasted around 1000 year more than most people think exists.

    For those who might not know, The Holy Roman Empire was not centralized, it was mad of independent states. The video shows that Toscana was under Austria for many years, but it was actually independent until the creation of Italy.

    • @spaghettiking7312
      @spaghettiking7312 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tuscany since 1737 was under a cadet branch (that is, separate-but-related branch of the Habsburgs), and it was alligned with Austria and garrisoned by the Habsburgs even after the Congress of Vienna up until 1859 where rebels proclaimed and incorporated Tuscany into the Provinces of Central Italy, which would quickly be annexed by Sardinia to form Italy.
      So, yes, Tuscany wasn't in personal union with Austria, but it was under their influence, so this is not incorrect. Moreover, while he does show the HRE under one colour, each state within it is shown with borders, so it is not as if he implied the many separate states didn't exist.

    • @thefirstprimariscatosicari6870
      @thefirstprimariscatosicari6870 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Kristijan Car Today the Croatians have more legitimacy. But remember that irredentism had nothing to do with who owned what. It was always about the conquest of all land inhabited by Italians.
      So now the Albanian plan is the only solution.

    • @henricoz_9745
      @henricoz_9745 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Kristijan Car That territories are Roman (and so Italian) from the antiquity. Now, Trieste is inhabite by Italians. In 1945, Yugoslavia has destroyed Italian communities in Istria and in Dalmatia.

    • @henricoz_9745
      @henricoz_9745 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @Kristijan Car The Croats aren't Illyrians. The Croats are Slavs. Slavs are from Urals. Lombards, Franks and Germans arrived in Italy just in 4th century d.C. Arabs arrived in 8th century. Italians derived from the Germans, from the Greeks and from the Romans. That's undeniable.

    Hi, I as someone who has researched heavily into this topic have to say that your video looks great but has many inaccuracies. The Duchy of Benevento should have controlled more land south from 644 - 70 and your initial borders for the Lombards are inaccurate. It's a shame really, seeing as there are lots of quality resources on the topic on the internet.

      the old imperium of rome and byzantine the Romans were very organised, disciplined, serious, rather stern and stoic, military-minded, cared little about family ties (they frequently adopted people unrelated to them or murdered their blood relatives), and were unusually ready to sacrifice themselves for the common good of their nation (as legionaries).
      The Italians are just the opposite in all these respects. They are possibly the least organised Europeans, among the least disciplined. They have made terrible soldiers ever since the Middle Ages (Italians haven't won a single foreign battle in history, except in Libya and Ethiopia where their army far outnumbered the locals in number and fire power.
