Italy has one of the richest history in the world. From the teramare people, Etruscan kingdom, Roman Empire, Papal State, Renaissance and more. I don't think there is another region that has influenced the western world so much and for so long as the Italian peninsula. The history and culture is just immense.
Don't forget pizza
I agree with the amazing scope of the peninsula's effect on western culture- it's very hard to keep that in mind, since the last couple hundred years Italy'a influence is pretty much gone outside of luxury brands.
@@animuslite8809 I don't really like pizza.
Egypt and China might disagree with you.
What timing. I just got back from a week long trip from Italy. As a history enthusiast it was the most amazing experience I've ever had. What an amazing history.
As an Italian, I was waiting for this video with much excitement and am very happy to see it finally come out! Thank you!!!
I learned how to cook from an Italian.
I have Italian blood in my veins. My name is Vitor Kennedy Di Tomaso Pereira Farias and according to the DNA test, my ancestors lived in the Lombardy region in north Italy.

@@vitorpereira9515I got some Italian blood in me as well but its not much. Im mostly Spanish and Danish. Recently discovered that I may have Welsh blood as well aka from Wales, Great Britain.

I had never heard my city (Bari) being mentioned so often in a history documentary. It’s long been underrated.

@@gogpoydi Yeah of course, although I’m not exactly proficient. We’re slowly losing it.

I've been to Bari this year, it was such a pleasant surprise! Such a beautiful city, too bad I only spent one day there
This would be crazy long if it included all the Roman history as well, shows you just how eventful Italian history is
I’m so glad you still do these! I love the history of country series. You do an absolute great job with them! I know these must take time to make, you deserve much support❤!
Italie est le berceaux des art et culture rzfiber❤
Six long years I've waited for this video, And you uploaded it on my birthday. Thank you so much for the years of discovery and wonder you've provided me.
Happy birthday!
After years of waiting it's finally here. thank you very much fire of learning!
Edit: Although Italy is a young nation, the Italian peninsula and it's people has been at the center of European history for thousands of years.
I find it interesting how the first and final ruler of Rome had the name Romulus.
Likewise with eastern Rome being founded by Constantine and having its final emperor also called Constantine.
So don't vote for president America just in case ;)
I was excited to see another long form documentary from you this morning! It made for excellent listening. Thank you very much for it.
God be with you out there everybody. ✝️ :)
I love your documentaries so much, my personal favorite history channel. Glad its back!
I’ve been waiting for your next addition to the your “history of” series. I almost thought you were done with the long 1 hour format videos. This honestly made my day 😌
Impatiently waiting for the second part!!!
Thank you so much for these videos. I am revising history and find your videos a better alternative to textbooks. These videos are very helpful in case you don't know from what period to start the revision.
Bravo!
@fireoflearning when do you think you’ll have part 2? This was amazing!
Hey man! When could we expect the second part of the Italy documentary? I'm reading a book about Cola di Rienzo and his try to restore the former glory of Rome, and would love to have some historical background about it, as well as to find out more about the small Italian kingdoms, Venice, Genoa and others. Cheers, great documentary, loved it!
Outstanding as usual. Great to see this series coming back!
Great video! I get stuck going in a loop with the Roman Empire but it's so much better to keep going forward in time to see what happened next in Italy! This is very well done! Thank you.
Yooo! I was just binging all your videos and suddenly there’s a new one. Love it!
As an Italian American thank you for this video on the history of my ancestral homeland, I’ve been eagerly awaiting this video and I’m excited it’s finally here!
I’m pretty mixed. But I do have some Italian blood, from Piedmont and Sicily. Now I wonder if my family has some Germanic or Celtic blood from the north.
@@joer8954 in the Ancient era there were Celts in Northern Italy yet they have been assimilated.
I am Celto-Germano-Helelne-Fino.
I am not counting the French side as Romano since they are Romanized Gauls.
@@sethfrisbie3957 What's most relevant anyway is culture. "Blood" in itself doesn't carry any behaviour or history, only culture.

This is so exciting. These videos are unbelievably helpful, thank you!
Fantastic, please make more of these type of videos, I love them!
I did not know Italian history I between the fall of Rome and the renaissance very well, and now I do!
I love this video series. You do such an amazing job! Thank you
So much information in just an hour! Well done!
I am so happy to see more activity on this channel ! Happy you are well :)))
Can I request Poland? You've always explained the history of countries so well! I'm polish and I'd love to learn more about my country that maybe isn't explained as well by my parents :)
Man, why did it take me so long to realise you didn't make a documentary on Italy yet? Great video so far though but tbf I'm just starting it so yeah.
Also would be really nice if you could do more documentaries on smaller more underrated states and peoples. Be it Bulgaria, Romania etc. Would be really nice to spread more of the unknown countries' stories out there.
very good video, i enjoyed it a lot. kudos for having a good understanding what to focus on and actually saying there are much more in depth issues simply not covered in this telling. thank you for the upload!
You are the man, Justin

Thanks so much for this video!!!! Glad you are back with history videos!!!!!

Finally a video about Italy I’ve waited so long for this🇮🇹
I can’t even imagine how much time it had to take to condense all this info in one hour video. Bravo 👏
Italy is my favourite country I’ve been lucky enough to visit, you just feel like you’re walking through history wherever you are and the people are amazing
I’m visiting Italy in less than week, I love history and I just wanted to know a little bit more about the culture of this beautiful country. Thank you so much for the amazing video!!!
This video is, as your videos tend to be, awesome. Thank you for this engaging and informative look at a history that I was only partially aware of!
Thank you!
Your documentaries on Nations & Peoples as well as Space & Sciences are my favorite of your content. I hope you will make them more frequently. Mexico, Mayans, Portugal, Poland, Russia, Greece, Egypt, Mali, India, China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Peru etc. You can do so much as I’m sure you know. Loved it, such a great way to explain Italian History!
I've commented this before, but I'm going to do it again: If any of my history teachers/professors had been half as good as you in presenting material, I would have learned a whole lot more!

I’ve been waiting patiently for the next nation video, at long last it’s finally here
It's been 2 years since you made a history of a nation but it was worth the wait.
This entire series is great.

So happy to have HNP back. Also, love the map upgrade, Justin!
I cannot express how joyful I was when I saw this! Thank you!
Where’s part 2?
So basically the history of Italy IS the history of Europe.
Exactly and Half history of the world
All roads lead to Rome!
it is the Germanic tribes that are the basis and history of all of Europe
@@pyropulseIXXI Lol what? The Germanic tribes didn't count anything evem for the history of country like Germany. The only relevant Germanic tribe were the Franks and they started to be relevant knly when they got romanized in every aspect. What the Franks did was collecting the ledacy of the Romans and this brought Europe to the dark age. Then, after many years, Europe went over Renaissance, the age of discovery, the scientific revolution, etc. All those three phases started with Italy at the center of the European history. The Renaissance is an Italian thing, the age of discovery was promoted by Marco Polo experience, and Italian cartographers and started when two Italians discovered the new world. The scientific revolution was a consequence of the Humanism, birth in Italy, and was boosted by Galileo Galilei, again an Italian. Who brought the Arab numbers in Europe was again an Italian, Fibonacci. The greatest artists, scientists, explorers, cartographers, writers, where all Italians. Who do you think invented the modern music? The Italians with Opera, Piano Forte, and Violin. All the western world history is based on the history of Italy
@@pyropulseIXXIbro forgot about the Mediterraneans

Literally just spent a month in Italy and am stoked to watch this. Such a freakin cool country

Very interesting and entertaining. The mention of my Dad's hometown (Gaeta) as one of the towns which somewhat defied the German emporors explains the culture there a bit. To this day, they kind of do their own thing in Gaeta.
I missed this series!
For the first time I've stopped to think about just how abridged this form of history is. It glosses over so much, but at the same time this video is only an hour
Finally!!! I found your video when I watched your byzantine history video, and I was wishing for you to make a video about another Mediterranean country/region

I'm so happy to see another history of nation and peoples documentary 😭
I can't wait for part two!
Oh my glob a top tier video on a nation I only have specific and narrow knowledge on yes please.
The modern name "Italy" is derived from the Latin word "Italia," which was used by the ancient Romans to refer to the Italian Peninsula. There isn't any historical evidence to support the claim that it was originally called "hot foot."
One of the countries I recommend doing the history of is Hungary. A lot of interesting things concerning the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the invasion of the Ottoman empire.

I hope the next part has at least some mention of Swiss incursions as a sidenote. Switzerland was not only not neutral during the time period, but an expansionist confederation with states like Uri annexing valleys in northern Italy. The Three Leagues, a swiss-alligned but otherwise independent league of 3 states run on a communalist basis would administrate the valley of Vetlin jointly. A state of affairs that only ended with the Napoleonic invasion that split the Three Leagues into a northern half (the newly Swiss state or canton of Grey Leagues) and a southern half (the valley of Vetlin which was annexed into the Cisalpine Republic).
Eccellente! Molto buon video!
