This anime made me realize that there's hope for me. Before this anime, i was very much not doing well mentally, and after thinking more and more about Osamu Dazai's story and i realized that I'm alive and I have a future. I'm really grateful for Dazai just existing.
I got into this show after reading Bungaku Shoujo (also start the 1st volume based on No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai). I was going through depression back then (my mom took me to the hospital to confirm that). Although these series wasn't how I got out of it, I did gain more understanding about mental conditions and empathy for those going through it. Mental health is still a new thing in my country, since just a few centuries ago life was difficult (for my great grandpas and grandpas, it was war time). The idea of "just having good food, nice clothes and access to education makes a blissful life" is deeply ingrained and deepened by the Communism and materialism.

thank you so much for commenting! so glad you enjoyed my review of Bungou Stray Dogs. I just think more people should give it a try to watch, it's a very interesting show!
It's been more than a year since I watched it and I always think about the anime everyday.i do not regret picking this anime out of all the recommendations my sisters gave me when I was starting out as an anime fan.II was probably 12 back then .I am 13 + nowIt's my fav anime now, and I can't wait for S4.The characters are just so fun to watch and I immediately fell in love with the character designs and their personalities, the themes of the show is also a topic that I personally connect with even before I watched the show, so that made it even more appealing.I also like how they time their pacing of the whole story , the abilities was also something I was intrigued with, as for the fact, that I related to Atsushi heavily, not being able to find myself after finally being able to stop pretending for others sake and acting for my own and being neglected, I only started getting to know my self, and bsd help me a lot in that journey. This was the first series that made me think about what I can do to be better or be a better person to those around me, and whenever I felt sad or not satisfied with myself, sometimes, even thinking I should just end it all, this show felt like a big warm hug for me, so yea, I just can't help but feel all warm an fuzzy inside when someone praises this show, because I deeply appreciate this anime. This was a great review, it's great to see someone talk about it such detail.I don't find much reviews of bad so tq for making it:)
I really love Bungo Stray Dogs because its so amazing and Nakajima Atsushi, Dazai Osamu, Chuuya Nakahara, Ryunosuke Akutagawa and other characters are so cute! ☺️ The characters and their abilities are impressive because they are based on real life authors and I love literatures whether its Filipino literature or foreign literature. Its really awesome to see the real life authors turned into anime characters! 😀
Nice review and this anime is amazing......this series helped me a lot.... dazai-san's words ' people can change' helped me to believe I can still become a better person... I also recommend everyone to watch it...all the characters their stories, even the villians have a reason to fight for....and every character has a meaning
i've already watched it and have a video reviewing it on my channel but lol thanks for the solid recommendation (even if i already watched it) cause i totally agree w you moriarty the patriot was an amazing show 😊
Thank you for this! Just about to start it. And this convinced me! Thanks for this content as I searched Bungo Stray dogs review. And this was the top (and pretty much) only one 😢 so thank you for this. ❤ really helped push me over the edge. Keep up the great work x
I think a reason that BSD has and older main cast of characters because it's Seinen. Like the video said, this demographic geared towards older audiences. I enjoy this show a bit more and differently as a young adult mid-20s compared to my late teens self first getting into it. I remember watching this dueing my early depression and after raeding the Bungaku Shoujo series so I get this show on a somewhat personal lv.
sorry for the late reply! i don't usually pay attention to what shows have twists because i prioritize shows with interesting plot & great characters. recently i watched yuukoku no moriarty and I do think the show has some nice twists (since it's a mystery & crime genre anime).
its been a few months since i started watching this anime and i still think of the details about character relationships, motives, possibly futures, easter eggs, etc. 😂 at this point, i think the first 3 seasons so far are just introducing us to these characters some developing and some already developed- ahem, that one fan favorite character 🤣 im bracing for season 4 and whatever the big plot is. its funny that the anime starts with a detective agency and after 3 seasons and 2 LNs, here I am, the viewer, in detective mode 😂😂😂😂
if you don't enjoy the plot by episode 8 the anime could just not be for you & that's okay, sometimes a show just isn't your cup of tea. by episode 8 i was super into it. but if you do like the characters, then you might find season 2 more engaging?? i thought season 1 & 2 were really solid watching it back to back, but that's just me.
i don't know any legal websites to watch it that wouldn't cost money. I think it's on crunchyroll but i think you might need premium to watch it. if you're asking for the 'other' options (that i'm probably not supposed to mention on here lol) then there's animedao
Hey. Wait. Did you just say that Dead Apple isn't deep? Um, I'm sorry what? Like, yeah, the a-plot (A as in Atsushi, hehe) is pretty basic, but... no? Like, wow, I kinda pity you for missing the whole point of it. The visual metaphors, the little details, the dialogue especially between Dazai, Shibusawa and Fyodor. Atsushi's struggle with his own pacifistic tendencies and the necessity of murder. Dazai's grief, Fyodor's motives and ability "singularity". The "three aliens" explanation Ango appoints to the main trio. The fucking title? Dead apple, as in life and death, red and white, euthanasia? I'm kinda pissed to be honest. Though, honestly speaking, as much as I love the themes of this movie and the white trio and their shenanigans, on subsequent rewatches I do find almost all the other stuff pretty boring. Maybe you meant that as - formulaic? Regardless, I still stand by what I said before. The scenes with Dazai, Fyodor, Shibusawa, the flashbacks, some of the dialogue is just... *chef's kiss* Oh, and while you were reviewing the whole series, why didn't you mention the music? The OST is absolutely fantastic as well
I was really interested in the show up to season 1. From there it fell off the deep end for me. Season 2 was all over the place. I wasn't keen on the season opening up with a 4 episode prequel arc. It completely threw me off. After getting back into the main timeline it bulldozes from one plot point to another without giving the audience to really digest what was happening. Season 2's final anatagonist was just completely nonsensical with his money, a complete downgrade on Akutagawa, imo. I wasn't a fan of Atsushi's powers essentially having "training wheels" with the boss revealing he can control his subordinates' ability once they join the agency. Takes away from his struggle to battle his power. Fair enough with the review, sis. I'm still happy you were able to find joy in Bungo Stray Dogs 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I must admit the pacing for bungou stray dogs may not be for everyone. I personally enjoy the fast pace because it felt like it made sense for season 2 considering they were in a three way ability group war/conflict so of course everyone is going to be attacking each other and coming up with different strategies to come out on top like it logically makes sense for it to be faster paced during wartimes so to speak. So the fast pace personally made sense for me. I enjoyed the prequel arc due to it fleshing out dazai's entire character and creating a nice tone change (I'm the type of person who likes shows to have more than one tone. Though for other people the tone change can throw you off from how drastic it is) I like it when a show can sorta change genres at a flip of a switch because it makes the show funner to watch? And that the characters are more complex than meets the eye (especially dazai for me). I can agree that Fitzgerald wasn't a strong antagonist, but for me he was just funny to watch due to his relation to the irl author he's based off of and how comedic his ability is in relation to the book his ability is related to? Also, his desperation spoke to me in terms of his reasoning for trying to find the Book (i don't want to say spoilers). For me, Atsushi now being able to use his tiger abilities so suddenly and not in the moonlight makes sense with Fukuzawa's ability, like the intial limit on Atsushi's ability was that he couldn't use it unless it was a full moon, with Fukuzawa's help it allows him to use it. I enjoyed that added element because at this point it didn't logically make sense how Atsushi was using his ability due to the nighttime limit Dazai mentioned in the first episode. So Fukuzawa's ability explanation covers that plot hole and brings reasoning to how Atsushi can use his ability now. Obviously it means the ability won't be a 'struggle' to control but the show's main focus isn't on training really or 'learning' one's abilities so to speak. Most characters already know how to use their abilities and just adjust them accordingly for specific strategies. And as a person who doesn't enjoy long training arcs that drag on for too long, I enjoy the fact bsd doesn't bother with the whole 'training for super long' aspect. When i watch bsd i'm not really looking for show involving training, it's focus is more on the human nature of the characters, their reason for living and surviving, their relationships with other characters, along with general fun and energetic fight scenes. Sorry for the long rant 😊😊i just wanted to convey my personal reasonings for being okay with the smaller issues with this show, such as the pacing. i think bsd is very underrated so even if i'm nitpicky about certain issues with this show I do think more people should try out watching it to see if it suits their tastes.
