    The essentials for me are wah, overdrive, flanger and noise gate. Maybe a delay for solos if I'm feeling extravagant lol. A pitch shifter would be really handy for practising at home though.

    • @Demiglitch
      @Demiglitch 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@iyessir5099 Changes the pitch of the notes you're playing. For example on Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes, Jack White used a pitch shifter on his guitar to lower it by an octave to make it sound like a bass guitar. For more flamboyant effects there's pedals like the Digitech Whammy. For a cool example of what can be done with that, check out Whammy Damage by Jennifer Batten.

      I know I’m only a year late but I’m thinking about getting it how was it, every distortion pedal I run thru my clean channel on my orange crush pro 60 ends up sounding thin but as soon as I use the dirty channel instead it sounds better but I’ve been wanting a good distortion for my clean channel

    Distortion/fuzz/overdrive, chorus/delay and a wah. A gate and an EQ pedal might also be a good idea, and a tuner is of course a must-haves for any pedal board

      Recently grabbed a Boss blues driver for dirt cheap and was shocked at how damn good of an overdrive it is.
      Kinda blew me away. I put it up there with the DS1

    • @JeremiahDaniel1995
      @JeremiahDaniel1995 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@John-mf1sz I have a Boss Super Over Drive but I gotta say OVER DRIVES do enhance sound and quality however I still believe that combining a distortion pedal and an overdrive pedal has been the common duo for the longest but using a noise gate kind of took away from the effect I wanted which kind of hurts my GAINS so I had to ajust the settings and back off on some of the nobs because it wasn't giving me the lead metal crunch sound I like you can only loop so many effects pedals into one SET and then realize it takes away from the authenticity of the sound that you really wanted/needed meaning I am guilty of over doing my pedals and thats why I only limit myself to only like 1 or 2 pedals and BOOM there's that sound I was looking for...

    • @John-mf1sz
      @John-mf1sz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JeremiahDaniel1995 Oh for sure. I keep my setup to around 3/4 pedals that get swapped out depending on what I’m recording.

  • @smeemusic

    I’ve owned or still own all of these pedals or variations of these pedals. I gotta say this is a good selection to get you almost anywhere within metal.
    The mxr 5150 lead me to the purchase of my evh 5150iiis el34 100 watt head.
    I had the 10 band version of that eq. Which it was solid but I have since moved on to a boss eq200. But there’s nothing wrong with the mxr
    The boss mt2 does MUCH better in the fx loop as a preamp pedal rather than into the preamp section of your amp. And it is rock solid if used properly.
    The tube screamer really needs no discription whatsoever.
    I have the pitchfork+ and replaced my whammy dt. It does all the cool stuff. It takes an exp pedal. It takes a 3 button control pedal. It has in and out options the whammy does not. And it’s only 9v. It’s such a badass whammy alternative.
    I’ve never used that gate before but I can’t imagine it’s bad. I use the tc electronics sentry and it’s stellar.
    If you’ve read this far, you’re probably a total nerd just like me and you friggin rock!!!

    I have the SmartGate, basic Boss SD-1 and Metal Core, a Sabbra Cadabra, a "Science Fair" (Screamer+RAT combo), a Bogner La Grange, and a pile of fun "boutique" OD/fuzz/distortion pedals I got because demos sounded cool. Don't have a 5150 OD or Metal Zone yet.

    • @fistovuzi
      @fistovuzi 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      DON'T GET A STANDARD METAL ZONE! they have been bad from the beginning and are a meme in the metal guitarist scene FOR A REASON. the Metal Core you have is one of the best tho.
      i paused and haven't watched the vid yet, but that is a WAZA Metal Zone. Boss got Waza to make boutique versions of some of their pedals and they FIXED the Metal Zone, if you want to pay boutique price that is.
      but don't get the standard Boss pedal, the *worst* tone you get from the Core is better than the best tone you get from the Zone.

      I have both ts9 and sd1, as well as an TS808, and can say both tubescreamers and sd1 have their uses, depending on the amp and guitar/pickups you're using. Sometimes I really want the scream of Zakk Wylde, in which case only the sd1 will do. Same as the distortion ds1, it's ideal for classic humbuckers and low gain amps. No favourites for me anyway. They're all great :)

    My main dirt pedal since 1994 was the DOD FX-69 Grunge. I coupled it with an FX-40B EQ into A Marshall 8080, then a Peavey Bandit Red Stripe 112.
    I've added a few dirt pedals since then, notably a DOD FX-50B Overdrive Plus, BOSS SD-1A Super Overdrive, and an EHX Octavio.
    The 50B has been my main for the last couple of years.

      The G3 has a tighter low-end and has less high mids and more low mids than the G4.
      I like to think of the G3 having as a more wooly “American Capitalist” kind of sound, whereas the G4 has a more clear, grinding Dimebag kind of sound.

    how do you run a pedal as a preamp? like do u just set it up as a normal pedal

      You would run it through the fx loop (usually on the back of the amp) if it doesn't have one you're not going to be able to.

    I’m a gear noob. Been playing on my line 6 spider III for ten years lol. All this stuff just seems a little intimidating to get into.

      Pick you up a Digitech GNX3000 it'll have everything you'll need to get started and it's older so you can pick it up at around $130

      @@JK-qp4jy awesome, I appreciate the recommendation. Hopefully this will be a good “test the waters” experience.

      @Austin Escobedo there's still full support for it over at Digitech if you have any questions . It's got a great base for recording also that pairs well with older model computers or newer . I have mine paired with a Behringer Audio Interface and it seems to work pretry well. I can't afford an Apple or any of that DAW software so it's a low budget, high performance setup
