    The Diezel VH4 is the pedal version of the VH4 head they brought out a while ago. For me though the 5150 wins all the way sound wise!!!

    Metal Muff was my first pedal and I have no regrets about it, it's great for a modern metal OD with a ton of bottom end and tightness.

      Thierry Driessen no, the reason it’s 5150 is because it’s an Eddie Van Halen pedal and that was the title of a Van Halen album

    The Metal Core pedal is my distortion pedal. I use it through a clean jazz amp from the 60s and get a pretty good sound. Could never really get a good sound out of the Metal Zone or DS1 Distortion.

    • @groverjuicy
      @groverjuicy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bandit Keith King of Duel Monsters Right on bro, I think it gets spillover hate because of the Metal Zone. I put a Jim Dunlop Wah in front (toe down) for a buzz-saw-esque tone which reminds me of Appetite era Guns 'n Roses.

  • @stoneysdead689
    @stoneysdead689 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought the Blackstar HT-tube drive distortion pedal- through the front of my amp it sounds all muddy and - just not good. Put it in the fx loop- put a compressor pedal and a boost in front of the amp- put a 10 band eq pedal after the drive pedal in the loop= bad ass setup. The boost gives me all the saturation I could ever want, it doesn't increase volume because it's in front of the drive- it increases saturation. The compressor, which is first in the chain, gives me all the sustain I could ever want, and it increases the strength of my signal which also increases saturation. The Drive pedal of course does what drive pedals do- and the eq, being at the very end of the chain, allows you to tweak the overall tone anyway you want. I'm telling you- if you try it- you'll never put a drive pedal in front of your amp again. It sounds way, way better.

  • @Eventual420
    @Eventual420 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't own any pedals and use amps and preamps, but Boss has been a decent pedal company since I can remember, they keep a standard form factor, the Metal Core sounded unreal. Fairly decent results here. No one other than Lee makes videos fun, he is 100% of the boyish curiosity that makes Andertons videos more fun than anybody. He IS the modern day Benny Hill. He just makes people smile. Japanese engineering is not to be underestimated. Boss.

    I had all of them, and without a doubt the Mega Distortion Md-2 cover all of them, even from the Blues Driver to the Metal Zone, try it, this is a good video but you have to use them all to realise that the range of the MT-2 will give you a lot tools to work with, may be not so specific inside a type of music, you can play blues, crunch, hard, punk, metal, rythm and lead, if you dont have room for a lot of distortion pedals this one is a no brainer, if you are going to do always trash, ok the metal zone is may be the best option, but if you play diferent styles for sure you"ll be happy with the Mega, i repeat i tried them all, i had them and use them individually for a lot of time (not so the metal core, with that one just played a couple of hours) so at list give it a try if you can, may be you find it cool, versatile and at the end save some money buying just one pedal instead 2 or 3...

    • @LeviBulger
      @LeviBulger 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diezel is the best without question. Definitely go for that one if you have the cash. I've tried them all and nothing comes close to the vh4 pedal. 5150 is pretty good though for sure. Probably would be my second choice or the new waza MT2 if you have an fx loop on your amp. It's actually very very good.

    there's a company called Triton lab they make a pedal called Caravan so I got the pedal from a recommendation. So when I got it I did a shootout between amptweaker tight Metal Pro and the Caravan and much to my surprise the Caravan completely demolished it no comparison whatsoever. Mind you the amp tweaker is considered one of the best High Gain pedals for metal. Caravan is half the price and so much better! There may be a few pedals that are as good but none better

    So let me get this straight...
    You let an admitted non-metalhead try to dial in a high gain pedal
    for a dude that can't keep a guitar in tune?
    Interesting takeaway, is something most of us already know about "metal" dirt boxes...
    we all try to DE-fizz the gain texture by turning down the 'Treble', then realize it doesn't work.
    You can't change the nature of clipping diodes.

      I didn't own one for long, but the EQ is pretty flexible. Turn the gain and treble waaaaaaay down, then find a sweet spot in the mids and push to taste. Basically, don't use it as intended.

    • @Henry-pj1td
      @Henry-pj1td 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The NotSoGuitarGuy To be honest if you don't know how the Eq section works it will sound like a fuzz but try it yourself, take your time and you will find it very versatile when it comes to heavy music, no mild crunch with it

    • @squatchjosh1131
      @squatchjosh1131 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You'd be surprised, treble at 0 turns it into a monster. Whoever designed the treble range was on crack, but the rest of the pedal sounds really good, you just need to know the treble trick.

    The problem here is that you should've put someone who can dial in a metal tone in those pedals, because Lee can't do it, as it isn't his style. You should've put Rabea or someone else to dial the tones. Great video tho.

    • @aaronjones3181
      @aaronjones3181 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I somewhat agree, however, in my opinion the best pedals should sound good with almost any settings. I actually own a metal zone (stupid impulse buy from my early teen years) and I can get a good sound out of it.......but there's really only one or two sounds that are even usable. So I consider it a crappy overall pedal, that has it's uses occasionally.

    Glad that most of you have enjoyed this video! I know a few of you would have chosen different pedals, or might have set them up differently, but I guess what this video really does is show that different people like different things & there is no such thing as the "best" anything - only what you like & what you don't! These videos are shot completely honestly - the pedals are simply picked based on what we had available on that day & the person doing the playing (in this case Rob), genuinely has no idea what the pedals are & is under no pressure to pick/like certain ones. If you like this style of video, we have already made 3-4 to cover other styles of pedal & our intention is to do more to cover more pedal types. Cheers all!

      Yo rob, Nice video! I'm surprised that the Filaments drive didn't quite stack up. The only pedal I think was sorely missing (and that Rob may really like) is one you've probably been hassled about a ton: Precision Drive by Horizon Devices. They sound killer for metal and has a built in gate if you're into that kinda thing~

      I'm sure he knows what he is listening for and he can do that very quickly, but for the rest of us, yeah, it just is like,,, for f sake stop already, haha. Just let us hear a second of that before you turn another knob. He's not the only one guilty of this but it does kind of make me want to just run in there and pull him off the thing. I think he's also just operating at a faster gear than most of us are in when listening to these. So it seems as if he's in panic mode until you get to know him. Then it's just Lee, haha. I know I do that sometimes at work when I'm just in a higher gear and moving more efficiently flying through things and slamming things around a bit. Everyone else thinks I'm panicking and royally pissed off. From my perspective it just seems like everything else is in slow motion. At those moments no one else can understand anything else I say until I down shift massively so I can speak clearly with room between words and such. Maybe Lee should just count "one one thousand, two one thousand" lol, or something between knob tweaks. He's still my favorite though of everyone there, great guy.

    I don't understand why almost everybody dislikes and laughs at Metal Zone.
    I'm using this pedal to even play Jimmy Hendrix, Dire Straits or bluesy tube tunes, but for most I'm able to make an awsome metal sound!!!🤘😈
    You need to know how to control it's immense distortion capabilities, high trebly tones and complement it's sound with adjusting tones on your amp!!! even adjusting the volume of your guitar makes a huge difference.
    This is not one of those pedals which you plug in and expect to find a killer sound in 5sec. In my opinion Metal Zone can be VERY versatile, as long you know how to achieve it.
    When I bought this pedal in the 90s I was very frustrated with it, I remember my ears were bleeding at the beginning, but in time I learned how to control that pedal and now I'm glad I never sold it.❤️‍🔥
