This sounds surprisingly great. I didn’t think I’d really like a PJ on a Mustang, especially with rounds, but I’m really into that. I might have to stop down to the shop sometime soon to check one out.
Picked this exact bass out as my primary gigging bass. Prior to this I was running my Muckelroy custom med scale 5 string J style active bass as well as my T styled P bass, both are tonal monsters, but I hated to drag out a $3k plus bass to bar gigs or have shoulder pain from my P bass. The Mustang PJ has the weight and tonal options that I can use for almost any gig. I have a squire mini P as well, but couldn’t help but feel silly on stage with it. The mustang just plain looks cool and sounds great!
You did a nice job on this video. I’ve played and gigged as a bass player for 30 years. I occasionally try a short scale at a music store. They’re fine for what they are, and they fit certain styles of music and work for certain players, particularly those who aren’t really full time bassists but others who would like to learn and play a pretty good instrument that has small scale. For me as a player with a certain range, technique (like slap), and already having Precisions and Jazzes as well as five string Jazzes, Stingrays and upright, it’s not really a useful instrument for me. But, again and I think bears repeating, this is a good demo. Well recorded, thoughtful and fleshes out the most likely use of the instrument. As nice as it is, any short scale bass will just end up sitting largely unplayed for me. Even as a guitarist, I’m used to the 34 inch scale on bass, and will stick with that for its familiarity, playability, feel and sonic advantages of that standard scale length.
Just ordered mine in sunburst wit maple neck... can't wait!
I’ve been checking the internet DAILY for a review for this bass, so glad to finally see one and in my favorite of the colors! Thanks!

Just ordered the exact same one, honestly this is the best color of them all!
finally someone makes a video about this fender player 2 hialeah yellow mustang bass, thanks!
Great review Anthony! You covered every feature very thoroughly and honestly. I assume the Fender Player II is well balanced and without neck-dive.
I didn't notice any neck-dive while filming... great little basses. Thanks for watching - Anthony
